What do you think about the new Vittoria Corsa Pro tyres? 🧐
@douglasbooth6836
@douglasbooth6836 Год назад
Will be great but it’s only came up because their tyre now has just been knocked off the top by veloflex as the fastest. 5-7 watts per tyre and at what speed?

Just did 800km on Mallorca, including the 225. Conti 4 Seasons, no punctures or pressure loss. Most of us don't do races, but ride with friends and groups. For me, avoiding a puncture is way more important than 10 watts more or less.

Just to reiterate for those that didn't see the "AD" mark in the thumbnail. This is an advert. Reporter paid by vittoria says "Measurable improvements found", doesn't state them and then goes around interviewing teams paid by Victoria who give subjective feedback on how "amazing" it is. Wait for the review on BicycleRollingResistance, comparing it to a GP5000, and decide which one fits your personal ideals in what you want in a tyre.
@magicknight8412

Exactly this. Vittoria checking all these interviews to make sure they all give glowing vague reviews.
@event4216

Is it foolish to assume that date of manufacturing also plays role? If BRR would test 10 years old stock I suspect same brand same model tire would be harder and slower than fresh one. Maybe too fresh also isn't too great - just guessing. Just like roasted coffee needs to rest for a week or so and goes stale after 4-5 weeks. So if BRR buys three years old GP5K to compare against 3 months fresh VCP results could be suspect.

@notreal-pl7mz
@notreal-pl7mz Год назад
Yes it is an advert, and very well done it is. The GP5000 and anything with grip, will be a touch cheese like in robustness. Saving is 5W +-15W is my guess but that is fine as well. Wider tyres means bike frames made for wider tyres which is great, gone are the days of frames so stupid they would not take a 25c tyre.

I'm not sponsored. I ride these tires. These tires are better. If you think a team like jumbo would swallow all the marketing and ride bad tires, while they have enough money to choose whatever tires they want... Yes those teams are sponsored, but if it doesn't work, the'll move away onto the next tire. They have enough offers for sponsoring.

@nluisa

I agree, although it is a balance for me... I don't see the point in running race tyres for everyday use, but bombproof options can be rather harsh and drag a lot too. I run vredstein fortezza senso extreme in winter. Never punctured in two years despite occasional off road use and they last ages. But when I fit Hutchinson fusion5 11storm (all weather tyre) the ride feel is much nicer. These are not even fast tyres in the tests and I don't run tubeless either (more drag). Puncture protection is good and better than conti 4 seasons. I recently tried GP5000 with tpu inner tubes for a sportive . Average speed went up noticeably (less work for the distance) and ride feel improved loads. Like riding a different frame. I won't ride them all the time, but it was a worthy purchase. I would not ride anything racier though, as there seems to be little to no puncture protection.

Just my 2cents it might help somebody. - I used to run on Specialized S-Works Turbo RapidAir 2Bliss Ready with Stan's sealant and Bontrager sealant. Was a mixed experience. The tires ride comfortably and felt speedy but probably that's all I can say positive. Got plenty of flats that got sealed though, so no standing on the side of the road, but the sealed holes could not hold the pressure afterwards and they re-punctured if I pumped them to a proper pressure. Also these tires turned like a tractor, cornering was not comforting, it had a quite square-shaped feel when changing sides. So generally lots of annoyance. I used two sets of these and put around 2000-2500 kms into a set before changing them. - Now I run on Pirelli P Zero Race TRL with Joe's sealant. Man it's a night and day difference. No flats at all, the tire grips and corners like crazy, cornering speed therefore skyrocketed. Comfort and speed does not feel worse than before. I have big (half to a centimeter) cuts here and there, yet the tire did not flat. I use 28 front 30 on the back. Currently I'm at around 1500 kms into my first set and a very very low sign of wear. Pirelli as a brand surprised me here, because in my experience their car tires are mediocre at best. I don't know how Vittoria's or Continental's performance tires would compare to my current setup, but I might give it a try just for the sake of experimenting, however there is a saying; don't fix what is not broken. So I can highly recommend Pirelli P Zero with Joe's sealant. Here is a link where tires seemingly get objectively tested: www.bicyclerollingresistance.com/

Pirelli are the best of the rest of the tubeless road tires that I have tested as my own guinea pig, (definitely superior to schwalbe, specialized and even the Hutchinson fusions). However the only tubeless road tires that I can totally trust are the IRC Formula Pro X-Guards. 25k+ miles on 5 sets with zero flats and extremely cuy-resistant. Fantastic grip from the rice bran infused tread with excellent ride feel and comfort. A true goldilocks tire that I have to keep a 2 yr inventory of👌

Looks like these are the uprated version of the Corsa N.EXT tires I ride on. Punctured on a large thorn from a mesquite tree, which usually results in a lot of cleat wear walking to home. Pulled it out as the twig it was attached to was hitting the frame and after a spray of sealant, I carried on. What's important is not puncturing, but when you do, having the tire seal properly.

I run these in a 32c on my Canyon Aeroad with the DT Swiss ARC wheels that are 52/62 deep. I've compared them to a 25/28 combo of GP5000s on some Winspace 33D wheels over a 10 mile course and they were almost a minute faster. Not super scientific, but it was repeatable over multiple laps changing wheels. So is it the 20mm deeper wheel or the tire? 🤷‍♂

I'm getting old. I remember a time where 23mm where considered the comfy soft ride and we would bring out the 18mm for TTs cause they were so skinny and aero. Also hard AF!! 😅

The 'what width pros are riding' chat is irrelevant, as it is very dependent on rim width. 28c make a better interface on wider rims and 25c on narrower rims. Narrower is always more aero, providing the interface is optimised for both rim widths. Not to mention rolling resistance is only lower in wider tyres if pressure is the same (except for rough roads). Pushing tubeless meant wider rims/tyres to lower pressures so the sealant can do its job. If top of the range rims keep getting wider, so will pro tyres. My guess is manufacturers will keep fiddling with wheel specs, otherwise no one will buy new hoops. It used to be weight, then aero, then toroidal/dimples aero (since dropped), tubeless, wider, hookless, etc. Nothing against new technology when its purposeful, but I wonder if marketing isn't coming before advancements most of the time.

Right, let’s just cut the bullshit shall we? At the typical pressure you run a 25, 28, 30 or 32 the rolling resistance of the tyres are nigh on identical. Thinner tyres are more slippery than wider tyres. The reason Vittoria (and I like Vittoria, btw) made these tyres are because they didn’t have a cotton (or tan wall) tubeless or tubeless ready tyre in their line up, whereas other manufactures like Veloflex do. They needed a tyre for that particular segment of the market, the market being consumers who want this particular set up and aesthetic. End of.

Maybe the Corsa pro is lighter than ist predecessor, but with having already 265 gr form y favorite width 24mm, it is still quite heavy. A few days ago, I put a NOS Conti Supersonic 20mm (which has 22mm on a 13C/15C rim) on my rear Specialized trispoke; it has 142 gr, together with the Vredestein latex inner tube this makes nearly 200gr. Maybe wider tyres have a lower rolling resistance (but only with the same pressure as the narrower tyre), but a bigger frontal area, and as the rolling resistance increases linear, but the air resistance exponentially, don’t underestimate the aerodynamics. Still, it seems the Vittorias are faster than the Veloflex Corsa Evo black (205 gr /23mm, 220gr/25mm), or is it just because vittoria ist he sponsor?
