PRO CYCLIST INSIGHT: Ben O'Connor REVIEWS his Van Rysel RCR Pro (how good is it REALLY?)

I spent two days riding with pro cyclist for Decathlon Ag2r, Ben O'Connor, right before he headed off to the 2024 Giro d'Italia - and spoke with him about his new Van Rysel RCR Pro and XCR race bikes. Affordable and performance oriented, but how good are these brand new offerings from Decathlon, really?
A big thank you to Ben for his time in helping make this video possible!

This video was filmed in Andorra, where many professional cyclists live and train. Riders like Jack Haig, James Knox, Pavel Sivakov, Luke Durbridge, Sepp Kuss, Robert Gesink, Julian Alaphilippe, Carlos Verona, George Bennett and others use the mountains of Andorra to train with teams such INEOS-Grenadiers, Jumbo Visma, UAE Team Emirates, EF-Education Pro Cycling. I personally have no affiliation with Decathlon or Van Rysel bikes.

Totally totally agree. I think there is serious fatigue with the same rubbish reviews.'its slightly better than the last one but it's also not really different I also would buy it but it all depends and I maybe wouldn't buy it and also I've enjoyed my time here in Hawaii paid for by the bike company'
@luttekikker

I agree with you! This is the information you should share more when reviewing a bike instead of all the marketing BS you normally see (while all competitors do the same with almost the same specs). You see it nowadays in the races when in the final sprint 5-6 top brands finish almost at the same time. Nowadays every aero roadbike is top notch and the differences are minimal.This is probably also the reason why OEM brands like Van Ryssel can compete easily with the more classic brands that are out there for centuries.

Interesting they’re sticking with 28s front and 30s rear etc in tubeless. With all this focus on super wide 32 and even 34s being faster it’s interesting to see the pros holding to the narrower tyres on their bikes. Would be keen to hear more views on this from Ben and the whole ‘tubeless is dangerous’ narrative that’s going on at present.

Amazing video! As a Pinarello roadbike enthousiastic, I must say, this Van Ryssel RCR roadbike looks really good. The Van Ryssel TimeTrial bike looks great as well (I love the way you can shift with your thumbs). Yes, it's cheaper than Pinarello, but still pretty high in price due to the used 3rd party components (wheels, saddle, groupset). Never seen before I think in the world of PRO cycling that a "housebrand" (from Decathlon) actually performs on top level (and sometimes outperforms apparently) compared to Pinarello, BMC, S-Works/Specialized, Scott, Trek and so on).

Just a simple comparison with where similarly specc’d and performing bikes are priced. Nobody should spend that much money on a bike but they do, and the fact these sold out in minutes is testament to how the cycling public sees the value compared to other options.

@tristantakevideo

That’s actually something I’m not sure about. I haven’t spoken with Decathlon or Van Rysel. I’d guess the top level frames would be the same but as soon as you step a level down they change. But yeah, not 100% sure sorry.
@ambulowan
@ambulowan Месяц назад
@@tristantakevideo they would never tell because it wouldn't be allowed. The bike has to be stock and available to everyone. Them using better carbon, making it stiffer or something would be against the rules. It's speculated that they do this, because you Don't want your frame braking in the biggest stage. But to what extent they do this we don't know, pretty sure the frames go through more QQ and they make sure they get the best ones of these. Speaking frame vs frame just from a carbon standpoint it does not make much difference. Basically they are produced all in the same factories and the brands just put their names on it. Im at a point where i would never buy an expensive brand frame, just because the dollars are not invested in 100% engineering of what is possible but what is possible with UCI rules which block innovation and of course a lot of branding dollars.
