Pro-EU protesters clash with riot police in Tbilisi | DW News

Georgia's opposition leader is injured as police clear thousands of protesters from the streets. Georgia's interior ministry says 63 people were detained and six police officers injured.
It was another night of demonstrations against a draft law critics say is inspired by the Russian foreign agent law. The bill would require media outlets and various civil-groups to register as being under foreign influence if they receive more than 20 percent of their funding from abroad. Critics say the law is similar to one used to silence critics in Russia.

RuZZia is attempting to enforce this model time and again, even in Bulgaria, considering we are EU member state and NATO member state, they keep meddling, I agree that they are not the only once who do this, but this model is so recognizable to me and so well known to my people! I pray for the people of Georgia not to give up or give in, every step backwards, we all know will be a step towards authoritarian state, ruled by oligarchical models and will bring nothing good to bear. I am happy that we are part of NATO and EU, not because they are perfect, sure they have major issues, but because so far this is the better alternative. Now is the time for Europe to stay together, and to be stronger, united and fair! I want to state very clearly that wile I do not bear any hate towards Russian people, I do not accept the Russian agenda, and manipulation categorically. Stay safe, peace and prosperity my friends!

@3DBullet 16 дней назад
@@gaborrajnai6213 That's the thing, most organizations financed by EU don't actively partake in politics here or ones that do aren't directly instructed to run a certain narrative, they build roads, gyms and help startup companies by grants. and the bill doesn't just effect organizations financed by foreign governments, it effects any company receiving funds from foreign companies. for example if Coca-Cola has a subsidiary company that makes drinks, that is a foreign agent also. even if it has nothing to do with politics. even so, maybe this law would be good if it was used fairly, but no one trusts our current government to fairly judge all companies and from their past actions they most likely will go soft on Russian owned companies and companies that align with their narratives. In conclusion, the law has a higher chance to be abused by the government than to benefit the people. EDIT: also, no NGO is an EU NGO, they are Georgian NGOs with Georgian Employees that get part (not all) of their funding from abroad.

- Nothing substantial is said about the law. Only hints about it being bad and evil. - The only stated arguments against the law is "It's just like the Russian law" and "They'll not let us in the EU". Do Georgians have any problem with *the content* of the law? - "Foreign agent law" is not the only law in Russia. Russia also has laws against murders, robberies, bribery, etc. Don't Georgians want to remove those laws too? keep in mind? that Russia copied "Foreign agent law" from USA's "FARA law" - "EU won't let us in if we introduce that law" is a very sovereign position. Why bother paying salaries to your politicians when you can just ask the EU to decide everything in your country. Not only will they agree to do it for free, they'll probably agree to even pay you for that! - How is disclosing one's patrons supposed to hinder one's ability to "preach the TRUTH"? After all, they have nothing top hide, right?

For people who don't understand the difference between the law on foreign agents in the USA and Georgia, and Russia. Since the beginning of 2022, Russia has recognized almost all oppositionists as foreign agents, while in most cases there is no evidence. Imagine a Russian who opposes the war and has to serve 15 years in prison because he is considered a foreign agent. The same can happen in Georgia, if the Georgian authorities pass a law, then the entire opposition will automatically become "foreign agents". Welcome to autocracy and imperialism! As for USA, I see that people are free to speak about their government... Try to come to Russia and say that you want peace and the war against Ukraine must be stopped... You will be instantly sent to your ancient ancestors ;)

The law is also similar to FARA passed by the US congress in 1938. The law is being passed because of NGO meddling in eastern Europe. Intelligence cut outs mascarating as NGOs like the open society foundation and the National endowment for Democracy are destabilizing Eastern Europe. The open society foundation was kicked out Hungary because of internal meddling. The NED was fueling the 2019 Hong Kong protests some of those protest leaders now work for the NED in the US and Europe. Armenia has succumbed to NGO influence and we can see how that is going. Eastern European states are fighting off US and Russian meddling they need such laws to protect against these powerful countries trying to turn them into proxies and vassals.

In the EU and the US, it is normal practice to forcibly disperse demonstrators with water cannons and gas. Georgia is following in the footsteps of the world's leading democracies.
