Meet the Pro gamer. His life is competitive video games. In between sleeping and eating, he spends his time playing video games or watching other people play them on RU-vid. He has already found the most unbalanced weapons in the game before you, he claimed that he doesn't use "cronus zen" just like his favorite youtubers. He plays every game as his life depends on it. He doesn't earn any money from this nor he will be. For him, it's not about fun or relaxation. It's about the feeling after the game when someone tells him that he is pretty good. Recently he spent $60 on a game to only play with one weapon.

@@Bomlagadafshipoing I have been like that before. From your thought process, I proceeded to isolate myself and play video games for as long as I ever wanted to. Long story short, I came to the same conclusion. Playing video games accomplishes nothing. While the games themselves are good, doing it constantly will become unfullfilling at some point. You won't get praise, money, clout, or improve your self esteem and grow as a person from games. The only positive thing that you get from becoming great at games is just that. The satisfaction of being better than someone else through ranks, plays, or status on the leader boards. Streaming can give you some of these but I didnt want to stream personally. And of corse a lot can go wrong even outside those issues. If you don't feel like you belong with gamers, you become very lonely, there is the lack of physical exercise, which can cause being overweight, lack of sunlight, communication... Aka all the scientific reasons why sitting in a chair for 12 hours a day is bad. Look at video games as a mere distraction, just like drugs or alcohol, but on a smaller scale. Less distracting and less harmful. Sorry like this is too long, but I feel like this needs to be said coming from someone who understands how this feels.

I've never seen the winner bring up real life hobbies, achievements, friends, money etc, its always the loser. Glad I got out of this mentality and started lifting weights, changing my nutrition, started riding a motorcycle, and going to college to pursue a career. I think the problem is video games are a comfort zone for many people, and you can feel a sense of achievement while putting in relatively little work. Whereas things like losing weight, getting a degree, or starting a family takes a lot of time and energy not to mention the risk involved. Video games require no risk so it's easy to get trapped in that loop of self-gratification. I hardly play video games now but I can't say I regret my past since I at least learned from my mistakes.

Its quit funny how I got away from that lifestyles and story is this , i played GTA 4 for first time and noticed the option of calling someone to hang out: "Niko let's go bowling" quote changed my life, I was under the impression that hey I do have mouth, cellphone, and the number of an old friend So I putted my social anxiety aside and just said "Fuck it im willing to change so bad and the progress starts NOW!" so I just called that friend to go blowing with me (when kids we had strong friendship and he remembered my good sense of humor and all the fun we had back in the days) next day i had first in a long time social meeting, I suddenly remembered how good I am at manipulating words into jokes and used that gift to be interesting to him, Now I'm gladly to say that I've beaten social anxiety to its bone, I have ton of contacts now that always enjoys my company, it was also a challenge at first but I got a real time job, had my first kiss lately by charming the girl with my knowledge about the world and geo politicalcs etc.. and man life is so much full now, tho I didn't dropped gaming at all but I learned to combined it with self progress, only after work and not more then 3 hour's a night, but most importantly I became the "GG" guy that can enjoy the game even when lost fifths time in a raw, I play apb now as I want and with no expectations to win every fight, mostly trying hard awesome shots and helping frash comrades that I got into the game.

Video games are great as an addition to something else, but I have no idea how you can completely replace everything else with them. Recently, when I play alone, I have the overwhelming feeling that I am wasting time that I could spend on something that would really contribute to the development of my personality. I've always been an introvert, and quite narcissistic, it even turned off some people. I seriously thought that I did not need anyone, that I was higher than others, I treated with disdain for all possible social activities. But now I feel some kind of emptiness inside, as if I fell out of reality itself. The funny thing is that I've never been a fan of competitive video games, I spent time playing story-driven RPGs and sandboxes.

And playing them can develop you. I'm not sure where i'm going with this but just know you don't have to build the next vaccine, even small changes will help. Open your curtains more, drink more water, maybe warm water, try doing the stuff you loved doing as a kid. Maybe some small changes will help you not feel empty as much because i know you're living and breathing and that itself proves you won't feel empty forever if you try. Best of luck

These guys have never been good at anything else, sadly. They haven't experienced pleasure from anything else. When you focus all your energy and time into one thing - you become a bit of an asshole. Most sports stars are absolute assholes when it comes to their sport. Chefs, bakers, artists - all assholes in some degree. I think maybe spreading your time across many different passions is the only way to escape being an asshole. Never become obsessed. Its ok to be inferior. You don't have to be the best. In single player games i don't have the guilty feeling that you gotta paly the game, no unballanced things to worry or complain about, i can play at my own pace and fallow a routine at the same time and the best thing they are relaxing, they bring me memories and experiences.

I used to play games for hours on end in my early 20’s. I was going nowhere in my life really. Then, around 24-25, something clicked and I just decided to apply myself to hard work, my job and improvement of my skillset, social skills etc. Fast forward a few years and I earn really good money, have a great woman in my life, have reconnected with God and have a positive future ahead. Games were fun and I miss the escapism and silly little spikes of adrenaline, but today I much prefer the escape of a long walk with my girlfriend on a warm summer’s afternoon somewhere lush and green, or the thrill of conquering a real goal in my life. It’s fun fellas, but it’s not a how a man carves out his legacy.

@@aberrant814 I got into Tech. CRM actually. Which is very accessible and forces you to pick up a bunch of skills. Project management, business analysis, facilitating, public speaking, creation of training materials, data analysis, learn industry knowledge, a constant need to update your CRM knowledge and other systems. From there I started learning HTML, CSS and Javascript and developed a basic WebDev skillset to compliment my expert knowledge in Salesforce CRM. I am now a multi-certified Consultant, am working on becoming a full stack Javascript developer and have adopted the mindset of ‘move forwards or you are moving backwards’ mentality. This mentality is useful in the tech world as it changes quickly and demands are constant, it is also essential because it’s true in any field! Every day we get older and closer to being ‘retired’, where society just wants you to shut up and die basically. We are all literally racing against ourselves! I ‘grew where I was planted’ basically. My company had the system, asked me if I wanted to take a look at clearing it up, and I went away and learned for as many hours as possible every day for a few months how to administer, clear up and enhance it massively. I asked for a raise after a year or so, as I had built up my confidence and self respect to ask for what I want at this point, they hesitated and offered me a tiny raise after a glowing appraisal. I pointed out the huge initiatives I had delivered on my own, what they were asking of me and where my own continued learning could benefit them. They refused to budge even after admitting they were very dependent on my new skills. I spoke to a few other companies, was offered a few jobs and doubled my pay in one go. Was a lot of late nights of learning but I continue to move forwards everyday.

Now I'm a disabled vet and every single person I ever trusted screwed me over, hard. I even managed to get a decent job, brought in a long-time friend in need, and he stole my promotion and got me fired. All for a few more dollars per hour. When I was at my lowest, I was completely ghosted by the fair-weather friends that are now the norm. My girlfriend cheated on me just weeks prior. I find myself in utter disgust at what people have become all around me, and escaping into a good game is the only time I feel at peace. I'm no "pro-gamer" by any means, but I'd rather ignore people and stay inside. I've become unwaveringly anti-social, and my finances as well as my career, routine, and stability, have all improved. During my teenage years I suffered from severe depression and social awkwardness so I retreated inside so I got into competitive gaming since it was one of the few things I was good at. The only time you should invest your efforts into gaming like this (taking it beyond a normal couple hours a day hobby) is if you are getting paid for it through pro leagues, or streaming/youtube. Even then for the vast majority it doesn't work out or takes years to build up to.
