what would be very interesting Incar studio is to compare the RS2 with its little brother "phono box DS3 B". they share the discrete design and the XLR IN = OUT and the many adjustments

So my Project RS will work RCA in from the turntable, XLR out to my main amp ? Is there any advantage to doing that or would the balanced improvements only come with a turntable that provides XLR to the phono box then XLR out ? Cheers.

To remain truly balanced you'll need a balanced output cable from your cart to the Phono stage and then out to the amp. There isn't an advantage to running RCA-Balanced in my opinion.

Why did you use DECCA for equalization? The record did not sound like 70 years old?

Hes right. You don't use Decca for equalization on new records

Some key selling points really need fleshing out so allow me to do so. The balance feature is super handy to some... cheaper carts can have upto 1.5db of channel imbalance... very audible especially when records themselves can have an imbalance too. More expensive MC's are better and can have upto 0.5db. I think this is a great feature, especially as my left ear is a little less sensitive than my right lol! The easy adjustability to suit any cart is great. The discreet, no op-amp route is killer and the choice of eq curve is useful...ive got a fair few 1950's lps. But the main thing here is the XLR inputs... very uncommon on anything less than uber high end stages. In fairness its also uncommon to have true balanced outs on a turntable upto £5k and well above and with that its only MC carts that are inherently balanced to boot. Nothing could be more amusing seeing phono stages with rca in only and yet equipped with XLR outs... an unbalanced signal is an unbalanced signal and you cant get something from nothing. Not here though.... this stage is MADE for low output MC where a super low noise stage is essential... the ability to run an MC from a fully balanced TT output and then through fully balanced phono stage and again onto balanced ins of linestage/integrated etc is KILLER and has the potential to drop the noise floor to the point most vinyl listeners will never ever experience. At £1400 and used as such it represents stupidly good value for money. However its worth pointing out that its pointless to buy this stage if you only intend on use of MM carts - even an expensive one - and a turntable with cinch outs or else just buy a Tube box DS2 or some such because thats a great phono too. I myself will be getting one of these to go with the recently acquired Thorens TD1600 which is fully balanced out and i cant fricking wait lol. Hope to add the PSU upgrade too!

@@Studioincar Hehe thx. Well, i definately know more about A/V than my local Richer Sounds staff 😂😂 Im about to put my momey where my mouth is and buy the RS2 phono 👍

That first feature seems pretty useless. Why a person with a $2000 phone pre be using a cheap shity cartridge? Besides that, what are the differences between the rs and rs2?
@tomwebb7091
@tomwebb7091 2 года назад
@@brent3086 Ive really explained enough but you should look into it further yourself. Whats your definition of a cheap shitty cartridge, which i havent suggested anyone uses but some may wisely upgrade their phono pre before the cart? I prefer the sound of a AT PTG33ii moving coil at £420 vs a Hana ML MC at £1000 and this phono with the AT is imo a stunning combo. There are plenty of quality carts in the £200 to 300 range. If i have to explain why channel balance adjist is useful then you arent for understanding. The main two things still remain a fully discreet circuit and fully balanced operation.

@@tomwebb7091 Well no, you haven't explained what differentiates it from the original. Some of things you mentioned were also featured on the RS. I know this is subjective but I'm sure most people would agree that it doesn't make much sense to pay an additional $800 usd for a shitty channel balance. We agree there's plenty of quality carts in that range, however I doubt anyone paying this much for a phono stage is going to have a cart that costs under 500 pounds. That isn't a cheap cart.

the RS is with linear opamps which sound good for their price. A more dynamic "open 3D" performance which less background noise is to be expected with a good designed discrete configuration.

Interesting. Did you try either with their respective Power Boxes?

Did you have a chance to listen to it? Wonder how it compares to Hegel v10.
@1kyrill

Hegel V10 misses balanced IN. A shame as a MC cartridge is actually a pure balanced design. Balanced or XLR configuration offers 3db (IN) + 3 db (out) = 6db less noise. So 6db less RFI (electromagnetic waves interference) noise picked up by cartridge and non balanced wires

I am testing rs box now in a combination with rs power box. The later brings audible advantage. I am using it with high output mc. My standart setting is 47k ohm/520 pF Fixed. But if record has a lot of higher frequencies, sound becomes too bright, so I switch to Variable and reduce the load to 1k Ohm or even to 800 Ohm. Balance feature on rs2 could be very practicable, as a lot of records have skewed balance.
