I finally went w/ the KO-3 after carefully considering the Hapstone. I'm still in these learning stages - but was able to restore an old pair of shears making them better than new. Still putting an order together for some better abrasive stones, too. I think this Hapstone is a very good system. Thanks again for doing these, always interesting! Take care...

Hi Dave, nice to hear from you. Thats great you were able to restore your sheers. I also have the K03 and its great. The Hapstone RS is a great sharpener especially for the price. These Hapstone Premium CBN abrasives are some of the best available. Your welcome Dave, good luck

I'm using the TS Prof Kadet, but wanted some of the square stones. So I bought the Hapstone push-pull rod (because I couldn't find the TS Prof part for sale anywhere, and also because I didn't want the dove tailed component). Anyway, the TS Prof takes a 6mm rod and the Hapstone is 4mm, so I bought some 4mm and 6mm rods, and some 4x6mm couplers, all pretty cheap on Amazon, and it works great with the square end stones.

You will be happy with both. Keep the RS lubed where it slides. Edge Pro Diamond Matrix are an excellent choice. Should be the only stones you need.

@@WardogOutdoors That's excellent to hear. I have read good things about them, but I have not used them before. What type of lube do you recommend for the sharpening rod?
@WardogOutdoors
@WardogOutdoors 6 месяцев назад
I noticed it starts to make noise if metal shavings get on the slide rod that holds whetstone. It can use any oil to reduce friction.

I purchased the exact same one with different diamond stones as these cbn stones are far way out of my budget ( they actually sold me a full kit with stones up to 5 or 10,000 grit. It’s only good for knives with a straight geometric back day like a kitchen knife or so. I bought a Benchmade 940 Osbourne bug out. I placed it on the hapstone from the most thickest part of the back of the s30v blade. Must be due to the knives blades geometry the and possibly the clamps on the hapstone didn’t go well together and after sharpening both sides were mirror finishes (stropped with 0.25 micron paste) all good BUT one side of the blade’s bevel was like 10 degrees and the other 25 degrees and looks twisted which I believe rolled somehow even though I was paying good attention. It’ll work nice with blades that have a geometrical shape like spyderco at the rear because it’s a straight edge of steel. Non of this one end wide the other thin and tiny where you have trouble calculating how do I get the knife to stay steadily. Bottom conclusion it’s amazing but not recommended for edc knives as they’re giving them stupid and silly fantasy designs but still going to purchase the TS PROF PRO HUNTER and if I fail then that means there is something wrong with me even though I have very artistic talents and good with my hands. For gods sake I honestly get better results with just a sharpening oil stone. After a bit of tinkering

If the blade was clamped at a slight angle, I could see how this could happen. I try to find flat spots on the knife to clamp it. If the knife is clamped on any type of bevel it may not grip the knife evenly. This could lead to uneven angles side to side. I dont know that this is the cause but possibly.

OUch! Those stones they sent are more than 2X the cost ($445 usd) of RS sharpening system. ($199 USD)

I agree. It looks great for $200. I'll likely get one. Any variance in the angle when you rotate the knife?@@WardogOutdoors
@WardogOutdoors
@WardogOutdoors 8 месяцев назад
No variance in angle that I noticed. It flips and locks 180 degrees so should be exact opposite of the other side.

The stoneholder rod can collect metal dust so you will need to keep it wiped down.

I have a full set and they are amazing. My only concern is when it comes time to etch them. Etching as a result will eat the aluminum blank and adhesive. Ideally they need mounted to some type acid resistant PVC. Or just a thicker CBN stone and soak the whole thing. Still searching for ideas.

What do you mean by etch?

@@WardogOutdoors Apparently the only way to "refresh" metallic CBN plates is soaking them in Ferric Chloride.

Are the CBN stones worth the money?
@WardogOutdoors
@WardogOutdoors 6 месяцев назад
The CBN stones are a excellent tool to add to your system if you are looking for a new set of stones. The premium cbn stones are finer then the start cbn stones Hapstone offers. I recommend the start for rebevel and chip repair and the premium to finish with.

In your opinion naniwa chosera or this cbn hapstone?
@WardogOutdoors
@WardogOutdoors 10 месяцев назад
The Hapstone Premium CBN looks like it will last forever. No stone leveling required. They are both excellent, the cbn will outlast the Aluminum oxide the Choseras are made of. The Choseras need to be kept flat so you need a something to keep the stones flat and an abrasive like a nagura to keep the grit the correct size when leveling. I would recommend the Hapstone Cbn, unless you are into mirror edges, then the Chosera may lead. I still need to test the higher grit cbn to see if they leave a scratch pattern or mirror finish. I am not into mirror finish as much as being sharp. Final results. Get the Hapstone Premium Cbn set first so you can sharpen without having to level stones, then add the Choseras if you can get a second set of stones.

Thanks for the answare, short and clear. I ordered my Hapstone RS by participating in the kickstarter campaign and I have been using it since July but since it is not my first fixed angle system I already had some sets of Boride T2 abrasives so I got it without abrasives. Hapstone RS is exceptional as a system, compact but at the same time solid and precise, I work very well with it and I wanted to equip it with a new set of abrasives and I was undecided between the Japanese Naniwa or these CBN diamonds from Hapstone. I will order them thanks.
