@@buffbear7890 its a great game with ... manual rules put in place. Such as Icies not being allowed to stall the entire game with their wobble grab combos. Without these type of rules ... you will be watching a 7 mins of ZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzz............. inducing timeouts.

I think the way the ledge mechanics have been changed in conjunction with overpowered recovery makes the newer games more uncompetitive than ledge stalling ever did with Melee.

Ehhhhh maybe it’s just the way I am but I never everrrrr give up on a match unless it’s mega laggy. I can’t get behind giving up in grand finals. You decide to play a low tier you gotta find a strat to deal with ledge camping. M2K was still leaving the corner pretty frequently so it’s not like there wasn’t opportunities for conversions. Now tons more people will camp him out.

He was doing far more than "keeping up here and there". Remember every stock he lost game 5 was an SD and M2K's (rusty) Shiek could only hope to ledge stall out the game

This is why game 5 tends to be a complete letdown more often than not. By this point, both players are usually spent, and it's matter of mental attrition. Mew2King likely knows this as well. I don't think he had mental attrition so much as ruthless intention. He really can be a soulless robot at times. I don't think it's spite either. It's literally autonomous for him to play optimally, even if it's lame. You can't be mad at him. It's funny how Melee can be both the most hype and the most lame fighting game. I disagree with Zero. Who cares if anyone remembers you if you are playing for money. I've remember the stories. M2K needs to pay for McDonald's somehow.

think thats a testament to the sportmanship in the esport, we all know it exists and very few people choose to, we've struggled with coming up with a fair ruleset that doesn't judge but if everyone played like M2K this game would've died a long time ago. We still love M2K as well its just an uncomfortable situation, do we police our game or constrict whats viable? For characters like Link its really difficult to even contest sheik at ledge. Fox? maybe but no one seriously practices for it either because its so rare. Interesting dilemma

Only argument I can see for rage quiting being the right choice is if you don't think planking should be in the game or your just bad at making use of it. So you rage quit in hopes to draw attention to it and get it banned.

This is just M2K's playstyle he doesn't play for fun he plays to win just like Justin Wong.

@@pedrito890 I mean, winning is the fun part lol. I personally don't think we should get down on the ways people find to win, unless it's REALLY broken and unfair. But otherwise, just get better yourself you know? Kuya could have still won even with m2k stalling, but he mentally gave up instead of attempting to time his approach perfectly which is what he could have done. M2k is famous for reducing the game down to literal frame traps and banking that he can see what's going on faster than you can, which has made him the best player at times. But also people figured out how to mentally beat him in their own ways for many years and he wasn't the best despite his stalling tactics. To say it was unfair to kuya is an insult I think, because the man could have won. Basically, I approve of what m2k did because any top pro would have beat his ass in whatever style they were able to as well, you know?

There is a rule. There’s a ledge grab limit of 60 but only if the game goes to time. If kuya let m2k ledge stall the whole game, he would have won. It doesn’t really matter if m2k knew that would be a problem because kuya was winning neutral, hence why m2k retreated in the first place.

Idr the rules specifically but what m2k did wasn't illegal. I think it's if you're straight stalling with no interaction for a certain amount of time you get in trouble.

Melee has a timer, which means that timing out your opponent should be a viable option. However, most players correctly pointed out that ledge camping for some characters is almost impossible to counter. As a solution, most tournaments SHOULD HAVE adopted a 60 ledge grab limit rule if the game goes to time. If both players refuse to fight then the situation feels weird for both the players and the audience, but if one player is winning, they don’t have to approach if they don’t want to. ^This isn’t exclusive to melee. I play Ganon in ultimate. People in tournament camp me all day when they are winning. What am I going to do about it lol. And I can’t be mad, I picked Ganon against a zoner or fox or whoever really. The timer will run out eventually and I’ll need to figure out how to win before it does. Lengthy reply but I hope this helps.

But is it really the case though? It's not like even most of his fans got any proper arguments to back him up against the flames he was getting, we know Jack s$hiz and besides what's done is done m2k only did what most who don't know how to help would've done and basically didn't say anything. Even I at some point stopped talking to the haters because I barely got any arguments other than that "I'm sure it's a misunderstanding. Just following the hate parade is wrong and it isn't right so we all should stop." there was simply too much hate to handle at the time.

For most of M2K’s smash career, entering tournaments and trying to win was his JOB. So when that’s the case, I don’t think getting mad at him for doing that is justified.
