I'm glad that it has helped! I haven't been painting that much lately. I did however move away from the smaller spray gun in the video. The needle was too small to handle any lumps that formed in the masking liquid. I just use the standard 1.3 mm gun that is available at harbor freight stores for $15.00. Hope that helps!
Very good film. I am sad that i haven`t found your film earlier. I like your English because it`s simple and you speak slow and clearly so it`s easy to understand for people with worse english ;) . I am waiting for cutting liquid mask and aplying paint video. ;)
Pro tip: Put your isopropyl alcohol into a spray bottle and use in conjunction with a soft bristle toothbrush. Cleans everything really well and doesn't leave any fibers or residue.
for liquid masking just use water, as it is water based. using alcohol can cause some brands of masking to suddenly clog up as they are not purely water based. Some contain latex and alcohol can cause problem. also instead of tooth brush, use painter's 'round pointed tip' poly brush (5-7mm diameter). Round pointed tip poly brush also works really well in cleaning airbrush with heavy tool cleaner solvent (petroleum based) without melting.
A gun works great however I've used cheap foam brushes to apply latex mask on lexan with great results. The mask finish my not be as smooth as from a gun but it works great.
Have the same gun work great first time not so good second time. I noticed when cleaning gun for second body I used cold water and mask and water don’t seem to mix well kept getting balls like wet paper towel. Clean gun completely broke down flushed with lacquer tinner and then ran water tru it Seem to some how not spray worth crap now even tried with filter out. Seems to mostly spit
Been doing this for two years following this video and will throw in a tip - filter the mask with a screen (I use a shaped screen for sink drains) before loading the paint gun and it will clog much less.
Great Video. Thanks. What Compressor do you use? I just picked up the same Airbrush and it has a 1/4 in fitting. I have an Iwata Powerjet with 1/8 fitting I believe. Thanks for any info.
He is using a full sized air compressor for this, likely at high pressure. I use a 1.7 mm nozzle/ULV at 80+ PSI and I no longer dilute the mask. I've been using this and the method and the video for two years. Started with a 1.2mm nozzle and it clogged a lot.
Could I get the link to the gun you used to apply liquid mask. I’m gonna get the same one if I can find it. For that very thing. Also do you thin your mask to spray it?
as soon as possible, rinse out in the sink. Shake the gun with the cup half full of water. repeat a few times and spray water through it. I've started pulling the needle every time too. Gets rusty with moisture in the gun.
It will but you have to regulate the air pressure. I use a cheap Harbor Freight air pressure regulator, with one of their $.99 air dryers. It's the same setup I use for my airbrush. Hope that helps.
You can find exact HVLP spray gun in Amazon for 12.89. It has only 1 tip size which is 0.8mm. It is good enough because Bob Dively liquid mask is quite fluid, unlike other brands some can be quite thick, then you need to use higher pressure. (or you can premix some water) A heat gun is really helpful. (Actually like necessary) you can check out Bittydesign's video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-G4fDHgVRJmU.html This is probably the only company in the world that does professional RC car body stuffs now. At 1:03 it says they use 1.4mm needle size at 3.5 BAR. I use their liquid masking it looks thicker than Bob Dively but it works really well it doesn't tear off or peel off for no reason at all which can run your paint job.

I have a three color process that I want to do. So my question is, after you paint your first color, can you spray the mask over what you painted so you can peel the mask off to do the next color. Will it pull the first color or be fine doing that? No body so far has addressed that. Thanks, good video.
(When at all possible) the best way to do it would be to cut out your full design before any painting but only remove each layer as you complete the previous revealing the fresh area for the following layer. It will peel off just fine, even after paint is on it.
@@Al-ud8qi Yes you can, but I would use Bitty Design, I used to use Bob Dively until a friend let me use some of his liquid mask one day since I was out. It was Bitty Design and I'll just say I haven't used Bob Dively since... Bitty sprays better, dries quicker, and peels off much better than Bob Dively.
On Point RC final coat inside body after all paint is applied you backing with white? If so just same brands or you using a different paint brand as final backing
JM CHICAGOLAND CICHLIDS Yes Faskolor and Createx. I back it with enamel once the acrylic has cured for 12 hours. The enamel makes it fuel proof and protects the paint.
Do you dilute the liquid mask? (and how much if you do). I see how it moves in the cup in the video and I know how thick it is in the container. I've been brushing it on for years
Yes, I do reduce the liquid mask, using just water. I reduce it until it sprays evenly out of your paint gun, airbrush, or whatever you're using to apply it. For a spray gun with a 1.8mm needle I reduce it 6:1 - 8:1
李佳洋 I use hot water with a drop of dish soap. Just spray until it sprays clear. Remove the needle and rinse the gun and the needle under hot water. That's it!
No other choice, really. Unfortunately, the internet is plastered with advice to use the Bob Diveleys product, which was touted to be the best. So confusing with all these extinct products for R/C.
Sooo... I would like to see you CUT out the shape - What is your technique for cutting through the mask.... but not cut into the body!? I've never done Liquid mask for a Lexan body.... but would think the cut lines would partially compromise the body a little bit?? I'm sure a lite touch - but I would like to watch you cut it out!? Also - Hair dryer is a little safer and more forgiving for drying - as opposed to a Heat Gun. Thanks for sharing!
