Sup engineerers. This was the extra video I promised. In the beginning you’ll get to hear some longer versions of the meme/anime stuff than last video. But then it moves to much more classical music and Jazz because I read a lot of comments wanting to hear that. In the end of the video, I share the experience of recording this piano as a virtual instrument. That was an absolute nightmare. Hope you like it, I’m so tired of seeing hammers in the titles now so time to move on with my life!

It's like singing, the play becomes a whole instead of loose notes on a sheet of paper. If you haven't heard a song for years, you often can sing the whole piece by only hearing a few words 😊 I often want to play a certain piece of a song but to get there I first have to play the whole thing from the start lol. Like if you lost your wallet, you retrace all the steps through the house 😉
@madscientist14
@madscientist14 2 года назад
Well in the first ten minutes of the video. It did say she practiced those songs before she went there. The rest of the video is just her years of experience. if you've played an instrument for a long time and you're very accustomed to it, then you'll eventually reach a level where when you hear a note you can immediately find it on your instrument. You might not know what the note is called(like having perfect pitch), but you will know where it is on the instrument.
@byugoi
@byugoi 2 года назад
I'm an amateur pianist but all pieces that I learn to play on the piano I have memorized, meaning I could play them fully without sheet music. However, if I hit just a couple wrong notes, or I put my hand in the wrong spot, I immediately lose my place. Also, if I don't play a piece for a while, parts of it slip from my memory. In my opinion, memorization of songs isn't hard, it's just a side effect of learning how to play it, which is the hard part. Though I assume it's a lot harder if you're a concert pianist who has to memorize hours of piano concertos. But I agree that it's still super impressive for her to have memorized these pieces in such a short amount of time.

that girls is amazing - she really goes all in to the project and tries to make it sound as best as possible and to adapt her self to the instrument. Thank you for putting a link to her homepage into the description. It is odd: On her homepage she is so polished, that it is hard to notice how hard she works - while here: clearly she is having a mix of personal fun, but also professional and personal ambitions. Seeing her putting in the work into essentially a stupid idea really shows how much of a skilled artist she is. Saying sorry for being exhausted after pouring her energy into hammering that thing? No reason to be sorry! This is the best this piano will properly ever sound - pace yourself. This is an instrument for effect/presence/solos - not playing all night.

Her playing is really good. You should make her a regular on the channel. You should lighten the action of the keys. You could try cutting off the "claw" ends of the hammers, file down the sides, tops and bottoms of the hammers as well as drilling into the hammers to hollow them out.

They had you recoding sine wave sweeps in your room so that they could use those to correct for the reverb of your room. Since a sine wave sweep is a perfect waveform, they can invert the phase 180 degrees so cancel it out, so all that is left on your recording is the echo of the room. Those recordings without the sine waves are called impulse responses, and you can use them to recreate the sound of an acoustic space or speaker cabinet, a piece of equipment, or you can use it to cancel out the reverb on a recording., by inverting the phase 180 degrees. When they release the VST instrument or sample pack of your hammer piano, they will be able to give people the option of playing the sound dry, or with reverb added to it that sounds nicer than your house. There are studio monitor and stereo receivers that apply a similar process to room correction, so that the sound output by the speakers will compensate for the sound of your room and cut frequencies that have a tendency to sound louder because of the way sound bounces off the walls in your room. The idea is to give you the most accurate reproduction of what the sound coming out of the speakers is suppose to be. The cool thing is that when they’re done making it, and it’s available for purchase, you can make another video that compares the sound of playing the real thing to the digitally sampled version, and that will also help promote the product which you can hopefully profit from.

I don’t think she was being sarcastic about the piano overall… genuine interest. I completely get what she means about different notes having a different quality, it will be interesting to see if that is transferred over well to the virtual, instrument. That would certainly lend itself to it being used as a special instrument as part of a overall sound mix, rather than playing the part of main piano where, as she said, the specialness gets kinda merged/drowned out. I hope it all and thanks for sharing your journey!
