The 2.5 is deadly where I live. Anglers don't throw big baits and are scared to throw baits into the wood cover, and the 2.5 has a louder rattle. It just triggers the fish with a straight retrieve. Thinking about going bigger, but I have a few Rapala X-rap jointed shads that I may throw before I buy a magnum.
Hey Andrew the biggest crank bait I have is 2.5 kvd sexy shad. I just caught a 4 lb largemouth at fate Sanders marina in smyrna,tn. You might have heard about the plane crash that just happened in tennesse . It happened a couple hundred yards from where I fish.
Strange.. a european perch around 2.2 pound with much smaller mouth take that size of square bill right away. I tought the bass was alot more aggresive and atack big baits all the time. I got alot of 2.2 pound perch on a 5 inch stickbait or a big squarebill. Best stickbait i ever test is the x zone true centerstick in junebug. they hold upp forever. I live at a lake in Texas that is not what people thank of when thinking about a Texas bass fishing lake . Canyon lake is a highland lake and I prefer to finesse fish most of the time . This last year I have started trying different thangs and definitely my favorite big bait has become a bull Shad jointed swim bait. When it is on you can crush them in this clear water lake 10’-20’ visibility also I like a blue flake 10” power worm and can’t forget a Zara spook . Idk if those are over sized but to me there about as big as it gets .
I caught 2 Big Largemouth Bass (both over 18 inches) on the KVD 8.0 Magnum on a lake. and I caught a 33 inch Fall Northern Pike on a KVD 8.0 Magnum on a lake as well. And I caught 2 Big smallmouth bass (both 20 inches) on the KVD 2.5. This was some of the nice fish I caught in the 2023 Season.
I'm rooting for you brotha. Sharing pro secrets is why you deserve angler of the year. You're why I use Lews. Strike kings KVD blueguill color 8.0 is my favorite oversized squarebill to throw too. Bump it into some logs or rip rap definitely triggers some of my biggest bites I've gotten
most of my big fish over 6 has been on a big buzz bait...but I do fish those big square bills and they work...I remember the first time ever I used a large strike king craw red I caught a 3+ first cast...no BS
I love crankbaits but haven't thrown the big squatwbill much I have some just don't throw em,and I'm still waiting on my hybrid hunters since like December or something, crazy
