@@julienbronsch5039 I know but why would you ever fight torch god in the first place? what's the point? being able to auto-place different color torches? I doubt any new player and even the vast majority of veteran players care about this perk at all. It being in a walkthrough as opposed to it just being relegated to a weird easter egg/side quest is baffling.
most of the torches placed when you have torch god's favor will give you positive luck for the biome, which gives minor improvements to most randomly-determined things.
As someone who uses the wiki almost exclusively for crafting recipes and drop rates (i love fishing) this video is actually hilarious I didn't know the wiki even had some of these pages
Terraria could take a page from the dwarf fortress wiki and have a multiple variations of pages for different versions. Although I understand that’s probably a lot of effort.
or they could just do the thing that literally every wiki does and keep a revision history. but that's too simple, you gotta cram all info ever into a single article.
i appreciate it idk why. like i dont want that information to be lost, but also please remove it from the main version of the page and move somewhere else entirely
@@Criz454 Minecraft's wiki has a solution for this: It's called page revision history! Just look for a page edited during the time of the update you're interested in. That said, Dwarf Fortresses solution is more use friendly but also harder to implement, as you have to decided which versions are worthy enough to alternative pages for. I love wiki culture but this it more and more strongly become anti-edit over time. I see this same type of thing brewing on the Dwarf Fortress wiki mostly in the "community articles" type sections. Once someone adds something to a page, if it gets deemed as part of "community culture" in some way it basically never gets removed, like the piles of bad fan fiction cluttering various articles. My ideal wiki is informative only and it's always sad to see great articles held back by the community maintaining them, especially because old maintainers tend to drive new maintainers out to preserve decades old nonsense.
This makes alot more sense on why I was struggling with Terraria progression BADLY. I never understood why some items were super grindy and why some bosses were awful to fight. I had to learn about WINGS via buying them from the Witchdoctor. I was SHOCKED that Wings were an option to use and made the mechs no longer painful but BEATABLE. I mostly use wikis to help me play games and I couldn't really understand why people had such fun when I was over here struggling with Torch God.
huh? you're saying you weren't able to beat the mechs but you were able to beat plantera despite plantera being post-mechs?????????? leaf wings are post-plantera
@@BloodisFuel7 There was a version of Terraria that had it where leaf wings were the weakest wings you could immeditaly get in Hardmode, before they were locked behind Plantera. After going to the 14th page of Google search results, I found someone selling a used copy of the game on eBay, along with the Xbox 360 (from 2005) used to play it. Very excited to play! I sure hope the wiki has a ton of outdated info mixed in with relevant info!
(obligatory PC is better) i hope you have a lot of fun! if i remember correctly though, the ps3/xbox360 have not been updated, so if you want to continue, you will need to upgrade to pc or xbox1/ps4. as xbox360 stopped at duke fishron (aka between 1.3-1.4)

Go to the End, slay the Ender Dragon, and make an Ender Pearl farm, then punch down your first tree and make your first pickaxe! A Haste II beacon will help speed this up, so make sure to kill the Wither as well. Press E to open your inventory.
This takes me back to a "surviving your first night" guide I used when I was first playing minecraft, which recommended to first dig a shelter into a hillside _by hand,_ before gathering any wood. Oh, and it didn't even mention stone tools exist.
On the flaming arrow page, it lists a 3ds/old gen console tip to use a molten fury with an endless quiver to get free arrows. 3ds/old gen console. Endless quiver. Whoever did the change literally just swapped the desktop version icon with the 3ds and old gen ones without checking if one of the included items was even around before 1.3
I think the mistake was actually caused due to the template that creates the icons itself, as setting an instance of it to display pre-1.4 icons seems to cause it to automatically display the old gen console and 3DS icons. Whoever added it likely didn't have a good understanding of how the platform icon template worked.

I contributed a lot to the class setups page, specifically Summoner, and the wiki editors kept reverting it because they were absolutely clueless, they didn't even know that Firecracker + Stardust Dragon is better than Kaleidoscope + Terraprisma.
That's not really the case though. Dragon Cracker has higher raw DPS, but in practice the vastly higher range of Kaleidoscope combined with the vastly more reliable & responsive AI of Terraprisma makes Kaleidoscope + Terraprisma better and more practical against Moon Lord in whip builds.
As you say, the problem is that they're not willing to get rid of old info or, even better, make a sub-page for the same item/boss/whatever for an older version so every bit of information is where it belongs and where it is helpful. The Ivy Whip being mentioned so much in particular probably goes back to the 1.0 and 1.1 days when it was the only other hook besides the basic grappling hook (talking pre-HM in 1.1).
They should do it like the binding of isaac wiki does where you have page versions for each different major release (in isaacs case: rebirth, afterbirth, afterbirth+, and repentance)

One of my favorite lines from the Terraria Wiki is, on the trivia for the Blindfold, "a real-life blindfold usually disables the wearer's sight instead of preventing sight-deteriorating effects." Like, wow, never would've thought! They also seem to take everything Red says completely seriously, like on the Guide's page in the trivia it says "according to Redigit, the Guide is the Wall of Flesh, the brother of the ninja inside King Slime, the great-grandson of the Nymph, and the son of the Moon Lord. *It's unknown whether these statements are jokes."* Like seriously???? You don't even need to look at the context of what Red said to know that him being the great grandson of the Nymph (not to mention while simultaneously being the son of the Moon Lord) is a complete joke, no one was supposed to take that seriously in the slightest
Family tree: Nymph: 1 child Child grows up, then makes bebe with moonlord, creating two beings: The guide, and the ninja. Wiki people: yep, seems factual to me!
If you read the lore, and you follow this logic, that means Moon Lord killed his mother's kind, and how is thay gonna work? Moon Lord is a literal GOD! and Dryads were the protectors of the Terraria Universe
@@a_random_lizard either that or moon lord had a child with a nymph, which I’d argue makes more sense than him killing his entire race. Still bonkers tho

@@z4molxe690 fighting deerclops is done by quickly running under his legs when he is about to attack, if you use the shield of cthulhu you will bash into his legs and bounce back directly into his slam.
@@gardrone aha. I didnt think the shield would hit and bounce under his legs since iirc, he doesnt have a hitbox there. You learn something new in this game everyday. I guess the wiki writers thought that the shield would be good for dodging attacks if you actually tried fighting it head on (where it would help).
@padlyo7150 my tactic is cheesier but efficient and can be done with little hp. Se a house near where you are fighting deerclops with a chair and campfire. Not near enough where it can aggro you if you teleport. Then set a campfire in the place you gonna figgt deerclops. Hit him face tanking and when ho us low use teleport potions. (Magic mirrors might not work well ) Sit on the chair to recharge hp faster. Recommended silver/tungsten armor+ and regen potion and iron skin potion.
I remember the squire helm used to give +4 HP/s but they nerfed that three thousand years ago.. Coupled with the lack of wings, something tells me the guide maker was stacking regen because they get hit by everything.
Being unwilling to remove outdated content because on a couple of platforms it might still be relevant is really weird when you could just simply make a dedicated page that is dedicated to those versions while keeping the standard one up to date and conflict free. Great video as always, you're an extremely knowledgeable and passionate person and I hope that one day you'll get the attention that you deserve.
They could easily dedicate a "Patch changes" section like wow's wiki does to include changes from different updates though that involves reading ALOT of patch logs. Personally I think it's an effect of a shrinking community. A game with a large robust community rarely struggles with the wiki. A game with a small/shrinking community. Good luck getting a half decent wiki

These guides sound more like someone having an argument with their friends about what weapons and items are good in Terraria than a coherent guide for new players, let alone any players…
a lesser known fact about Lifeforce Potions is that they're technically obtainable pre-Skeletron because Gold Chests that generate close enough to the underworld contain primary Cavern loot and secondary Underworld loot, including Lifeforce Potions (it also results in being able to obtain Meteorite Bars pre-evil boss because they're part of the secondary Underworld loot). the problem is that this piece of information is HIDDEN IN THE TIPS SECTION OF THE METEORITE BAR ARTICLE, it doesn't even get mentioned on the article for Gold Chests which is fairly informative regarding Underground and Cavern loot that can be obtained. it's so bad that i only knew of this fact by RANDOMLY reading the Meteorite Bar article to remember how many bars i need for everything, and not because i thoroughly read the Gold Chest article to get an idea of how likely i am to get the item i want
It *does* get meantioned in the arcticle for chests overall though. "Cavern Gold Chests that spawn within 250 blocks of the bottom of the world will generate the same common items as Shadow Chests." But I also only kmow it by the Terraria Veterans video where one of the guys there used the laser gun agianst his first fight agianst Eye of Cuthulu
Unironically it's usually the first jungle drop I make. Best pre-hardmode hook under normal circumstances. Don't rag it until you try it, you'll get enough of the materials for the other stuff during normal exploration unless you're going for jungle armor.
I feel like half the people making the wiki were trying to make a linear guide to the best strategy and loadout for each section of the game, and the rest were trying to give a detailed account of every item available at each stage so that the players could read through the corresponding pages and pick a load out that works for them. Both of these are pretty valid strategies... but then neither side bothered to communicate their goals to the other and both parties gave up half way through.
Having personally fixed up and written pages for a different wiki, it's definitely extremely annoying to see obvious lies written as fact. Or the writers personal opinions just thrown in for no reason. (Ivy Whip)

The issue with the Terraria wiki is that it's basically a mess solely due to the wiki transition from the Fandom website to the Wiki website (formerly abandoned). The Fandom website is basically being left behind as a result of Fandom cluttering their websites with adds and generally not improving anything for people who work on website itself, so they have been transitioning slowly to the Wiki website, which as a result, has basically been left it in shambles since they are basically forced to make a lot of half assed corrections as quickly as possible, which ironically has resulted in a large amount of misinformation and constrictions as a result.

Way back in 1.1 there was only 3 grapples in the entire game: the grapple, ivy whip, and dual hook. I would put money that every single mention of Ivy whip was written back before gem hooks were introduced in 1.2.
@@notfunnydidntlaugh5270 I use multiple hooks all the time. Great if you want to be suspended in mid-air, such as when you shimmer stuff. Ivy Whip also has the second greatest range of any pre-hardmode hook obtainable under normal circumstances, the greatest speed, and you are unlikely to have a decent hook by the time you start exploring the jungle. The ivy whip is a great and cheap upgrade to an item you use all the time in boss fights and general exploration, I don't get the ragging on it, it's not like spores and vines are a precious resource.
I wanna say it was like, 1.2.4 (or maybe it was like, 1.2.8? I don't think it was 1.3 yet. iirc duke fishron wasn't a thing yet, so the 'final boss' of the game was basically golem...) Anyway, back in those days when mimics spawned from chest statues dropped their stuff (and if you had it set up in the dungeon, they could even spawn dungeon spirits cause mimics had 500 HP), paladin's hammer was heralded as like, 'the best weapon'. Disclaimer: this was back in like, 2016 when I had first played terraria and I very much do not remember the specifics other than that random factoids about mimics (don't even remember if they dropped all their stuff, just money, or just spawned dungeon spirits, leading to easy ectoplasm farms). I just remember making a big farm with lava at the bottom and traps and everything (I think for events? Maybe pumpkin moon?) and that the paladins hammer was my go to weapon, and that there was prolly a reason for that, and that I prolly hadn't come to the conclusion that it was 'the best weapon' myself.
I learned Terraria because of the bad wiki. Cause I had to look through and do so much research that I learned like everything. Not sure if thats a good thing but I would definitely say the wikis straight up misinformation is a problem for new players. What helped me was specifically the item progression page.

About duke.. they don't say tsunami is obliged and necessary, it's just ONE of the option. it doesn't mean people can live without whole guide if they can beat one boss. for me duke is easier than queen slime and mechs, that's why i beat him as the first hardmode boss (I RECORDED, not lying). it was my FIRST EVER master mode playthrough, i played melee and just needed the flairon. i'm not skilled and couldn't even tank their attacks with my high defense, especially the twins, the duke has fun and consistent pattern. that's also why i did daytime eol before golem, the difficulty is subjective. and i don't consider myself as skilled player, i almost died to the golem several times Upd.: i didn't cheese him but nothing stops you from it, so it would be even better and won't take any skill All aside this can be actually useful on get fixed boi seed. If i start it i gonna kill the duke as the fist hm boss for easier kill of mechdusa. That's because he's literally unchanged, i have to dodge him samely almost without hits, but that will save my time for mechdusa arena and more. And many people did that Upd. 2: about the shrimpy truffle.. i used it to overdamage plantera by putting more offensive and defensive accessories in free slots, i pulled bubble lines with the honey Upd. 3: i also beat skeletron before the brain of cthulhu / queen bee / deerclops. idk why people find him difficult, i just reforged all to warding via shimmer and used the thorn chakram. he hasn't any difficult attack, all you have is to dodge his homing skulls which is pretty easy even without the slime mount. i find queen bee harder because of fast attacks and debuffs, eater of worlds too because of shooting (almost died to him with post-fishron gear) and especially brain of cthulhu with its 2nd phase where you need to FOCUS So i genuinely used dark lance for boc and night's edge for qb idk why people don't do that but it's their choice and it's fine
same. i remember almost dying to the golem and lunatic cultist with post-duke and -eol gear. the difficulty is completely subjective and that proves all. also i like how the wiki shows you ALL possible variants of weapons instead of one scheme "always use the terra blade till the end blah blah blah" making the game more variable and interesting, you DON'T HAVE TO use tsunami but you CAN and it's fine
Pretty smart strategy with the duke and skeletron, the golem can be really difficult in the tight place, i'm lazy to use honey or outside arena so for me it was easier to obtain terraprisma and deal with him in 15 seconds, i can say that on get fixed boi the duke is actually EASIER than mechdusa and especially its preps

As a person who has almost completed my first play through of the game with my friend we have been using class progression guide, armor progression guide, and bosses for the bulk of figuring out what we are doing. It does get a little confusing at times but we just pick our favorite weapons and kind of just stick with those of ones similar to them
When I first did a playthrough of terraria almost a decade ago, I didn't look at the wiki once. I think for the best experience, you shouldn't either. It's so much more fun to find out things on your own, not knowing what you're gonna come across.
i wish there was some updated form of viewing recipes in vanilla terraria because having to talk to the guide constantly and write down important recipes necessary for progression is a little infuriating to me
Ehh, it depends. In my opinion the best way to experience Terraria for the first time is to play it with a friend who has a little more knowledge of the game. Just because half the game's content is locked behind Hardmode, which is only hinted at in a single Guide tip that the player probably won't ever see because by that point in the game you wouldn't think to talk to the Guide anymore.
Honestly if they care about preservation for old info so much, why didn't they just save a different page for each major update instead of making it confusing like this?
I don't think they care about preservation that much, they just got used to including all versions because it was actually relevant (when Tmod and the regular game were on different versions for example) and not that intrusive. But then ended up continuing to do it out of habit even after it stopped being useful and became very intrusive.
the scaly truffle can do infinite flight, so long as you keep it wet. but explaining that and how to do it is ABSENT FROM THE BLOODY GUIDE. oh wait thats the shirmpy truffle from fishron. i forgot the inferior version exhists because IT SUCKS AND YOU SHOULD NEVER USE IT.
I don't know why anyone would ever even use a Wiki as a strategy guide. There is plenty of useful information on it, but that usefulness is mostly limited to how to obtain something. For actual gameplay strategies, I usually just try to figure it out on my own, and if I'm still lost, then I'll look to the Reddit or a RU-vid video that isn't outdated.
Man, getting gel and wood for torches is SUCH a hassle. I'd much rather catch bunnies, worms, butterflies, and squirrels to place outside at night to know when enemies are approaching.
yeah, torch luck is only ever positive. The only way you can get negative luck is by killing ladybugs or town NPCs and it's a very brief duration. Torch luck will always be between 0.0 and 0.2. Using the wrong torches will bring you down from 0.2 to 0.0, but it will never bring you to a negative luck.
The wiki refusing to get rid of outdated information for old gen consoles has got to be one of the most counterintuitive things they could have done. Not only is it confusing for the majority who are on newer consoles or pc, but for the older gen players as well. Both sides have to sort through info that's irrelevant to them. The wiki would literally be better off if it only had old gen console info because then at least one side would be able to benefit.
This makes me appreciate the Calamity Wiki a little more. At least the info from what I've seen there is pretty reliable and tends to keep up to date on the current version of the game rather than older versions.
Easy fix. Just have a seprate tab for each version of the game. One for 3DS, PC, Switch, Android and so on. And ofc if the info are identical on some versions then just combine them into one section. Its not that hard.
just beat terraria for the first time ever with a friend a few days ago and have been watching videos. I'm still learning strats and best weapons obviously but you reading through the wiki was wild even to me. With the boss timeline, the recommended weapons, I used mega shark for most of my game but post golem even I could tell it wasn't cutting it anymore and swapped it for a sniper until I could get S.D.M.G. I'm glad I didn't go to the wiki and just trusted my friend who knew what they were doing cause this woulda made me so lost.
When I started playing Terraria on computer about 2-3 years ago, my friend told me not to ever use the wiki and I didn't. Now i know why! Why is like half the information wrong, old, or just not there!!! Great video
When I started terraria I wanted to play mage, and then I witnessed that for eye of cthulhu I needed the wizard hat, so I waited for Tim to spawn for quite some time, and...figured out it's best not to rely on wiki for stuff like this
actually the class loadouts guide helps me out quite a bit even though I am a decently experienced player but thats mostly because I just sometimes forget weapons exist
2:20 erm 🤓☝, you can actually get lifeforce potions inside golden chests just above the hell layer, though extremely rare and a complete waste to use on a pre-hardmode boss
I started playing 3ds terraria recently because I wanted to see old console exclusive content like lepus. Being said, no one who wants to do that would need the wiki, and the people who only have those versions of terraria wouldn't know that the wiki exists most likely Edit: felt like adding more to my opinion so I just want to say that its good to keep info about older versions of terraria that are playable officially without downgrading, but a historical record isn't a walkthrough, and clogging walkthroughs with old info is geriatric at best, and confusing or subtracting or contradictory or mislabeled at worst
To be fair, we have undeluxe and final update 1 now and i’m assuming we’re gonna get 1.2 and 1.3 probably as well so if you’re playing on those the old info would be helpful, but it should be separate.
It's pretty hilarious that the wings are so undermined in the wiki. They are pretty much the one accessory that all the classes are going to be using. For harder bosses, its almost a requirement in my opinion. Sure you can beat the game without wings, but you can also technically dump antimonic acid on your genitals and survive, doesn't mean its the optimal strstegy for victory.
Uhh.. No? You can beat the game on Legendary Getfixedboi with other wingless options such as Mechanic's teleporters/Grav potions/Fishron mount + Rod of Discord. As for the optimal strategy, I guarantee that Grav potions are VASTLY superior to any wings vs Legendary Mechdusa. And the teleporters make it so easy I consider using them cheese. Other creative options are Railroads and a giant ocean with the Lava Shark mount, but these require patience to build.
For the graph at (ill add the timestamp later) why wasn't the pre-hardmode linear progression: Forest > Cavern (ores + ore progression + what ores to aim for) > Hammers > Evil Biomes > Crim Hearts/Corrupt Orbs > Evil Bosses [Blood Butcher/Light's Bane] > [Dungeon (Muramasa + Shadow Keys)] > [Jungle (Blade Of Grass)] > Underworld > Hellstone (very useful + Volcano) > [Night's Edge] > Wall Of Flesh Not only is it more simplified (and readable) but shows a path that new players can use instead of the **dreaded recommended weapons page** Disclaimer: I am NOT a pro (I got Terraria a week ago) this is just me wanting to voice my opinion on a game I really fell in love with edit: added 4 more areas of progression for nights edge
hey lissen i wont stand here and let you tear down my beloved bee grenades against wof.but seriously the grenades are not bad but they are the most efficent way to kill his minions not the acutual wall so if your playing in a harder difficulty you and his minions tank too much of the dammage its not a bad idea to throw a fw greenades to kill them then change back your main weapon
