Sorry for the late reply, The orange conduit is typically only available to integrators/installers. Depending on your needs, I can ship this to you. Comes in 1" 2" & 3" sizes. Rolls come in 100' to 250'. Let me know if you are interested. Thanks
Do you feel $500 a room is reasonable to charge to prewire a room for in-ceiling speakers (2 speakers and 16 AWG wire), and, a low voltage wall box for a keypad controller (fed with Cat6)? Wiring only?
Another pro tip. Use colored cabling (other than white) for large systems (Green or purple for speakers, orange for APs, blue for hardwired network, yellow for phone etc.) Try to use 14 gauge or thicker. If you have time, build boxes for your speakers.
I'm a dealer for VSSL and SONOS. I've done multiple installs with these two brands with very good resalts. They are much easier to install and use. You don't need to hire a custom installer to install these systems. All is run off your phone or tablet. Super easy! If you want more info, check out there web site and get back with me.
This was beyond helpful. I wish we could see a video on you pulling the wire and how you start the process. These videos are super helpful but I still want to learn how you begin the process from the very start. You are the best. Thank you for the helpful information.
Thanks for your comments. I wish I could do a start to finish video, but my time was limited. Setting up camera and moving them around takes a lot of time. Maybe on my next project I can do something more detailed.
Hi! I am in the phase where I am about to wire my low voltage speakers into the house and have 16 Sonance MAG6r speakers I am installing. As well as 2 of the Sonance SONOS Rectangle speakers. Where can I purchase those pre construction rings?
Good video, thanks. It looks like the speaker wires are mostly NOT attached to studs or joists in their long runs, but only here and there with the black zip ties? So, no need to carefully pin the speaker wire to wood every few feet?
Hello, Yes the speaker wires are screwed to some studs with loose zip ties. You got of be careful where to do this. Keep away from ALL electrical wires if possible. I try to run the cables in such a way to make things as easy as possible for the insulators and sheet rockers. Sometimes they just don't pay attention or care about stepping on or pinching your wires. Thanks for the comment.
What ga wire do you run? We just moved into our home and I see the media place in Jacksonville wired 18ga speaker wire throughout. Perhaps I should’ve asked what wire they planned to use but when I mentioned I wanted runs for 7.2.4 and multiple 20-amp circuits in the media closet for my separate amps and two 20-amp circuits in the theater for my subwoofers, I thought they would’ve ran (at least) 14ga. Now I need to get someone in here to reside :/
Hi Judd, I use 16 to 14ga throughout. 18ga will work on shorter runs and lower power for whole house audio. for a theater room, I use 14ga minimum for all surrounds. I use 10 to 12ga for the front LCR(towers), 14 to 12ga for inwalls. Thanks for your questions. Please subscribe if you haven't already.
Hello this video is very helpful. Where are you located? My walls are open and I am planning on putting a surround sound system in my media room. What speakers do you recommend and how many?
I'm located in Central Utah. If you go to my web site www.vtxav.com, My contact info is located there. I'd be happy to discuss options for your build. Thanks
So if I wanted to do surround sound speakers for a client as a electrician (no low voltage experience besides garage sensors and tv/ph), I would just prewire 16x2 separately to each speaker? The client bought 14x2 speaker wire, would that work as well or is 16x2 speaker recommended? I heard there is a 3-5-7 speaker rule?
14x2 is fine. I use that in most of my installs. Remember not to run any speaker wire close to electrical wire. If you have to cross a electrical wire, do it a 90 degrees. The rule of 3rds that your referring to is for speaker placement. Here's a article regarding speaker placement. Thanks for the comment. Please subscribe if you haven't already. Nice video...I install as well....My recommendation is to put a sealed junction box in for your speaker main area,,,,Too many times I learned the hard way. Sheetrock installers just cut wires that are close to the sides of the box and move on. I've had HDMI destroyed this way. They only care about the sheetrock.
Thanks for the suggestion. I have done this in the past and works well, but some installs don't require a box or the client doesn't want to pay for it. I just bag everything up and try to make it as easy as possible for the installers. I've been lucky so far. Thanks
Thanks for the video. I have open walls in most of my 25 year old house now. I don’t have the money for the Sonos system I intend on buying. ( or Denon Heos). Would you suggest just running all the speaker cables to the one location I intend on putting the receiver?
Quick question - for whole house audio do you run 1 speaker wire per zone ( let say one zone has 6 speakers ) and hook them up in series? or run 1 wire per speaker ?
Well, that depends on a lot of factors. System planning is very important. How do you plan on controlling your system? What kind of amplifier are you using? What is the impedance of your speakers, 8, 4 ohms? What gauge speaker wire are you using. Are you wanting multiple zones? These are just a few of the questions you need to consider in putting your system together. If you need equipment, I can help. Please reach out. I offer free system planning if you purchase from me. Thanks, happy planning.
You can get it through my company. It's not sold online. It's sold to integrators and installers only. Please send me a detailed email of your project to videotronixnaudio@vtxav.com and I will be happy to discuss options for project.
Guy I'm literally an integrator and I guarantee it's sold online. I can ask about 5 people and find out what the carlon part number is or whatever @@avdreamer8250
I would recommend checking your states code requirements. In a lot of states, low voltage wire does not require a permit. Thanks for the comment. Please like and subscribe if you haven't already.
I always use cat6 on all my installs. It has a tighter twist and has a uses a plastic insert to separate the pairs. Less chance of crosstalk and better data speeds. Thanks for the comment.
We are at 5300' elevation in Utah. I just got done putting some ladders and other equipment away. Tring to get the video done before the other contractors returned.
Sorry for the late replay, had to step away for a few weeks. What type of speakers are these? In-ceiling, on-wall enclosed, pedestal speakers on a spike poll etc. "daisy-chain" is not recommended if you are using 8ohm speakers. You can damage your amplifier if you have to many speakers hooked up to the same speaker terminals. You can do it if you know the proper wiring sequence. Using a combination of parallel and series wiring can work, but it gets pretty complicated making sure to keep the ohms load to your amp correct. A distribution amp or a speaker switch works best. If you use a 70 volt system, you can daisy-chain speakers in a line, but you have to speaker that will work with a 70 volt system. 70 volt systems are typically used in commercial systems. I do offer outdoor speaker systems. Reach out if you are looking for equipment. Thanks
Yes they are. Each manufacturer makes brackets to fit there speaker sizes exactly. Most of my installs on RU-vid show the TDG Audio brackets and speakers. I do offer some other brands as well. I just started offering Focal in-wall, in-ceiling and tower speakers. Thanks for the comment.
This particular type of conduit is only available to professional installers. What are you looking for? How much do you need? I may be able to ship some to you.
Hi thanks for the question. No, they are not standardized. They are brand specific. You can contact your installer or brand manufacture for help with that.
Looking for rough in brackets for Polk 8”, can’t find anything specific. Looks like Vangaurd won’t sell to the public? Any help would be much appreciated!!
does every speaker need their own run? 16/2 or 16/4 volume control needs Cat6 from box to a room so if you have controler you need 6 x cat6 runs separate to the room
Speaker wires are for surround and Dolby Atmos speakers only. One speaker wire for each speaker in the theater. No volume controls needed in this project. Thanks for your comment. Happy listening!
Sorry for the very late response. Had a medical issue. Speaker brackets are typically dependent on the brand of speakers that you're going to install. What phase of construction are you in? Do you have any speakers picked out for your install? I can help with that.
Thanks for the video and sharing your knowledge. Is it required that the low voltage conduit be orange? I have seen blue conduit like that orange conduit in the big box stores.
No it's not required, however the blue conduit you see in the stores are typically only 1". Unless you are doing a very short run and it is straight. the blue conduit is to small. The orange conduit that I use is 2". HDMI and other cables run through this much smoother. Thanks for the comment. Please Like and subscribe if you haven't already. this help my channel alot. Thanks
Looks like you do nice work and sounds like half the battle is working along side a bunch of neandrathals. I'll never understand how or why trades don't respect each other's work.
Thanks for the tips with the speakers, it helps a lot 👏 another tip, you can use Velcro rolls and cut them into straps to use for your wire bundles. A lot less time consuming and messy when you go to finishing stages 👌😀
In ceiling speaker brackets are brand specific. I use TDG Audio in most of my installs. These are performance speakers. If you don't already have the speakers, I can help. How many in-ceiling speakers are you planning on installing and for what purpose? I have other brands as well.
@@avdreamer8250 Thank you for your reply. I have not purchased anything yet so I can go any direction I plan to install approximately 16 speakers throughout the house.
@@jonathanknapp1607 Jonathan, sounds like a project! What's your time frame? We should talk. We can go over some options for you for your project. You can call me at 435-979-0921. My web site is www.vtxav.com
Sorry for the late response. Had a little surgery. Like in the video, put the open backed boxes where you want your low voltage wire (speaker, Cat5 etc) to come out of the wall. Do not mix low voltage wire with AC wire. You will need to run these low voltage wire yourself or hire a pro to do it. The drywall installers will cut out openings anywhere you put your boxes. Thanks for the question.
