Luis Scott-Vargas, one of the best to ever play the game, sets his sights on a strong start at Pro Tour Dominaria. Or maybe a Navigator's Compass. Or not.
I would guess it’s to help shuffle through them in hand. By the time any of these cards gets back to you, it’s going to grade 8.5 tops (not that they care about the cards, they’re pros, and this is a draft)
I'm super new to MTG, but is there a video of LSV playing the deck he drafted in this video? Also, I'm going to my first FNM draft this Friday, is this video similar to what I can expect that experience to be like? EDIT: Here's LSV playing this drafted deck: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ATFkX4bO2UM.html
I’m curious as to why he didn’t grab The Antiquities War instead of the spore swarm. With the synergy from the d’avenant trapper, it’s playable, it digs for icy manipulator, the lance, and the flying artifact; Again, with the trapper synergy, he could be tapping a couple opponent creatures, and the 5/5 turn could be really interesting if the flyer is already on the board. If a trapper is on the battlefield, casting the saga taps. If icy manipulator is in hand, or found in deck, he prob has the mana to cast and tap a creature (which would be a double tap) and a potentially devastating turn. Some statistics and probabilities too... since the cards on top of your deck are “random” cards, moving some to the bottom is neither good nor bad; however, once you’ve seen what went to the bottom, in addition to what you’ve already drawn, the saga could really set up a draw spell. If you know the card you want wasn’t in the 20-25 you’ve seen, now is a good time to dig.
Never gonna be playable. You need waaay more artifacts to justify that card. The odds of getting one of his 3 artifacts among the top 5 of his deck is 32%, so 68% of the time, you play a card for 4 mana that does nothing.
