Bought this game for 104 bucks a few months back. I would say as someone who has played Sony's The Show for a decade now, this game's fundamental/core gameplay is better than The Show's. The way hitters follow through after swings, how smooth pitchers' motions feel, how catchers set up and receive pitches, how hitters bend down on low pitches and closely follow and track the ball while taking a pitch is certainly superior to how The Show plays. I compared pitchers in both the games like Ohtani, Darvish, Maeda, Tanaka and Konami's game has their pitching motions fully nailed, The Show still has that odd hitch in pitchers' motions. The only major gripes I have are the absence of check swings and how sometimes outfielders slide to get underneath the ball and how the infielders sometimes throw with literally a crooked elbow, which are very obvious bugs in the game, though with the most latest update these issues have somewhat been resolved partially. Also I like how there are genuine rookie managers with authentic face scans as opposed to the chubby generic rookie managers in The Show, how there are authentic billboards in Konami's game like Daikin, Coca Cola, Panasonic, Haier, Philips etc etc instead of the repetitive and generic billboards in The Show. All in all, it has both its pros and cons, the series was making a comeback after 5 years to the gaming consoles, so I can give Konami some benefit of doubt with the occasional glitches here and there. Will be interesting to see how they improve the game next year on both PS4 and PS5.
I've never played any of these Pro Yakyuu Spirits games, I've really wanted to buy one but I havent pulled the trigger yet, I guess the whole language barrier thing intimidates me to a big extent. I've been playing The Show for many years now, since long before it was called The Show, it was just MLB on the PS1/PS2. While I still love The Show, sometimes it does feel a tad stale so I'll put it down for a few weeks til I start to really miss it and I'll play it again for a while, get bored, rinse an repeat. Started playing some of the older The Show games again, broke out my old PS3 and started playing MLB 09 and I'm actually enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would, maybe it's because of the older rosters, I dunno but some of the animations actually look better on 08 and theres other little things that seem like aren't in MLB 20 that really add to the atmosphere of the game. Anyways, I really do need to just go ahead and buy this game because it looks absolutely incredible. One quick question; since I have an American PS4, will it play without having to mod, and will I be able to update the game thru PSN or will I have to download the patches to a flash drive and manually update the game??
@@crimsontide1980 Oh yes, it will most definitely play just fine on your American PS4. PS4 is NOT region locked, any PS4 can play any region game. If you plan to buy it from the Japanese PSN store, you will have to make a Japanese PSN account, buy a 10,000 Yen PSN card from Play-Asia (super reliable website), you will receive the code within a couple of minutes max, then download the game and then you can play on your American PSN account, no problem. You will get any and all updates for the game while on the American PSN but in order to buy DLC, you will have to be logged into the Japanese PSN. I have not logged into my Japanese PSN account since buying this game and I have gotten all the updates, have unlocked all the legend players currently in the MLB like Ohtani, Darvish, Maeda and Tanaka from my experience points, it is only the content you need to buy for money like crowd chants specific for teams and players that you must be logged into the Japanese PSN. Or you can just buy the physical disc from Play Asia with the FedEx delivery option and within 5-7 days it will reach your place. There is a website called Spirits Translation with all the menus translated into English, easy to navigate, made specifically for folks like us who do not know Japanese. Hope I helped. If any further queries, you are most welcome to ask. Warm Regards.
@@wajahatali1234 Thank you very much for clarifying everything. I didnt even think about buying it from the Japanese PSN store. I just looked on Ebay and saw that the physical copy was going for almost $200. I'll look on the PSN store, hoping it's a bit cheaper. What is the site that I go to for translating the menus in game?
@@crimsontide1980 So the site is "Spirits Translation". All menus including in game except season mode and career mode are free to view and very well translated. I would suggest not to go the eBay route, sellers there are looking for unreasonable profit from us. Either buy the Japanese code from Play-Asia or order the physical disc from there by FedEx option of delivery. I remember for me the whole process from making the Japanese PSN account by viewing a RU-vid tutorial to ordering the code from Play-Asia and buying the game from the Japanese PSN took just over half an hour. Play-Asia is a very well reputed online retailer for DVDs, Blu-Rays, Books, Video Games and Toys based in Hong Kong. You will be very satisfied by this game. This game have things like full HD base running windows unlike The Show where there are generic PS1 era looking base runners, the outfielders throw the ball to the crowd on the 3rd out if you press a particular set of buttons, the stadiums are exactly like real life with all the real sponsors, even rookie managers have full 3D face scans, the crowds sing songs (though limited variety there). NPB is real competitive and exciting league, this game will help you get introduced to it.
@@wajahatali1234 So I checked out Play-Asia......didnt see an option for a download code for it but they do sell the actual disc game for 54.99+free shipping......that's WAAAAY cheaper than Ebay!!! I gotta go ahead and just buy it for that price, I'm excited! Hope it arrives somewhat quickly because the more videos I watch the more hyped I get. Will be interesting since I know nothing about NPB as far as who is who and what teams are good so this will completely be a learning experience, but I'm good with that. Of course I know Ohtani lol but other than him, the rest is a mystery
this is hands down the best baseball game franchise ever made. I played the hell out of the PS2 games back in the day, unfortunately i wasn't able to play the more recent games. The ps4 game looks amazing graphically, it might not be as pretty as MLB The Show 20, but this game really captured the whole ambiance of baseball games.
Totally agree about the game capturing the ambiance of Japanese baseball. That aspect is absolutely perfect. As for this game, you MIGHT be able to pick it up on a sale or something. If Konami sticks to their release schedule, they are due to release a new game this year. - Danny
I got this game back in November of this year and so far it lived up to the hype the graphics are on point and well detailed once i got over the language barrier the rest was history i enjoy playing this game and i am halfway through the season. If You love sports video game like i do the PYS 19 Is A Must Buy !!!!
It's such a shame this won't release in the west. I would very much love if Konami got the license to MLB. ,It would be so amazing to see what they would come up with. I really wish they would and if they ever did they could add in the Japanese NPB too. But wishful thinking.
If this did release here, firstly that would give us a completely different option for something else to buy to get our baseball fix, and secondly, it would push Sony to make improvements and step up their game for The Show, which would make everybody happy. I remember NFL 2K5 doing this, but instead of EA improving Madden, they got scared and bought up the exclusitivity to the NFL license because they knew they were in trouble if they released a new 2K football game each year.
Oh, the EA takeover of the NFL franchise. "Fun" times for sure. I totally agree with you about that. EA just throwing money at the license really did hamper the advancements that were being made when there was actually competition. It would be really cool to see Pro Yakyū Spirits released outside of Japan. Like those EA vs 2K days of old, I also think it would spurn more advancements with both series which would ultimately be good for the customer. I honestly don't think NPB is interested, though. Over the summer when the MLB was still arguing about how and when to play, they had the perfect opportunity to sweep in and at least offer a brand of baseball (outside of the Korean league) for people to watch in the US. Japanese baseball had a month and a half of baseball in before MLB even started! In the end, they obviously didn't do it. Just by that alone (and probably a bunch of other complicated licensing BS that we'll never know fully) it kind of goes to show that Japanese Pro Baseball has no interest in growing their brand of the sport outside of Japan. Damn shame. - Danny
@@TheFamicast yeah it's a shame. I really want to watch NPB. I can only find some older games on youtube. Guess it sucks to suck 😑. I want to start learning japanese so I can play games and read manga and maybe someday visit Japan when I'm not a prisoner in the USA lol.. is japanese hard to remember for Reading?
@@Yinzermakesvids Reading Japanese can be pretty tough. I know for myself, I have an easier time talking with people face to face than I do reading. Still, with time (a lot of time) you can get to the point where you can read stuff at a reasonable pace. Even now, reading isn't my strong suit, but I can always just look up words or kanji that I don't know! - Danny
The show when the pitcher throws the ball it seems like the ball floats as it gets to the catcher on here it looks perfect. I hope that this makes sense.
It’s basically Konami’s realistic baseball game. I believe it’s using a modified version of the Power Pro engine. They released this game on PS4 and Vita in 2019 and supported the game with a beefy roster update for the 2020 season. - Danny
@@crimsontide1980 No there is no separate game called Pro Yakyuu Spirits 2020, the 2019 version got a roster update (including managers updates), minor graphical update and some bug fixes a few weeks before the start of the 2020 season. When one boots the game, it asks if you want to play with the 2019 roster or the 2020 roster with the updated 2020 season schedule.
@@crimsontide1980 You can get Pro Yakyuu Spirits 2019 from Amazon Japan for about $40 shipped to the USA via Amazon Priority shipping, which is usually DHL, right now. I bought my copy from Amazon Japan a few months after release last year and paid around $55 shipped via DHL.
Could you imafine a MLB Pro Badeball Spirits??? A my player mode with actual roleplaying, and instead of Koshien you can have College Baseball and the College World Series. The gameplay in this blows The Show out of the water!
