Probably The Best Fundamentally Frugal Tip Ever 

Like others have said "I really needed to hear this, too" I felt it spoke directly to me. Sometimes we need to remind ourselves that it's okay to say No. It's okay to put ourselves/our family first. It seems sometimes the more you do for people, the more they expect. It almost becomes unappreciated. Thank you for taking time to share these videos with us. I for one appreciate them.

I just came across with this video today, and I can tell you first hand that you are TOTALLY RIGHT !! For this last Christmas I spent a lot of money and time buying presents for my family and my clients. My clients were so happy and thankful, and for my surprise, when I was giving them their presents, they already had one for me. And from my family....I didn't even get a Thank you. I was really mad because everybody expects at least a Thank you. And I was mad at myself because I wasted all that time and money buying presents for people who don't appreciate it. Time and money that I should have spent on my own daughter. So, for this year, I'm saying NO to people who are not appreciative and thankful, and sadly, that includes my family. Thanks for this video.

This brought tears to my eyes. Every year we get together with my mom, step-dad, and my step-siblings' families. Sometimes we also get together with my father, step-mom, and my other step-siblings' families. All of my family has a lot more income than we do. We are a one-income family because I home school our kids. It was a choice we made. The rest of my family, they are all dual income though some would do just fine on half of one. They like to exchange gifts with almost expected prices ranging from $75-$100 a person...sometimes more. We can't do that! It is a tremendous strain! Nearly impossible with how many family members I have alone. This isn't counting my grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, or my husband's family! We don't own credit cards, so that's out...thank goodness. The problem with showing up without an expensive gift is the looks we receive. We either go broke buying our family gifts or we show up with homemade gifts and get these unappreciated looks...sympathy and disappointment combined. It's a double edged sword because I want to spend the holiday with them, but most times I feel it's just not worth it. Like many years prior, I've already been trying to find a reason not to go, but in the past, I've eventually ended up going anyway. I'm really hoping to break that this year. After Christmas, we are lucky to have money left to buy the kids gifts for Hogmanay...we don't give them gifts for Christmas. I guess what I'm trying to say is I needed to hear this today. Thank you. I needed a wake up call, some affirmation that I don't need to live up to anyone's standards or expectations. If they aren't grateful for what they get, I'll stop giving. Period. It's not worth it. One day out of the year, every year, and people expect gifts for someone else's birthday?

THIS!! I'm a new mom and put pressure on myself in many aspects feeling like my child is missing out if he doesn't have the biggest first birthday blowout or a ton of Christmas toys. love this reminder!

I don't use a lot of makeup or do a lot with my hair but when I do those 2 things I just feel good. I feel pretty and it makes me have a happier attitude. I know it isn't the most important thing but, whatever makes a mama feel good and doesn't hurt the family should be considered.💕 Be blessed sweet mama!

Amanda thank you for this today, it really resonated with how I've been feeling lately. Why is it we are ok with spreading ourselves so thin but we'd never ask it of another we care about? I was just hours ago berating myself for not having the courage to stand up & say no or that when on the few occasions I do, I then feel the immediate guilt because I did! 🙏🏻

I've gotten in the habit of only sending Christmas cards (preferably with scripture inside) to people that we don't see in person throughout the year, and homemade cookies to everyone else and only buy gifts for very immediate family (kids and hubby etc. sometimes the in-laws).

God knew I needed to hear this today! I was just thinking about how many things I want to do, hope to do, think I should do, and actually can't do. This is all about prioritizing. So crucial. You are so right, just say no, and pray about what to say yes too. Husband, children, myself and house are my responsibility! Thank you.

i stopped giving gifts to all my nieces and nephews except two nieces and one great nephew because they come around and talk to me and spend time with me.there are 3 nephews, i never see ,two great nephews i never see ,7 neices and one great niece i never see or hear from. i figure if you cant see me or talk to me or say thank you for gifts ive mailed to you in past years you dont deserve a gift for any holiday or birthday. there has to be a line drawn or a person could go in to debt trying to get a gift for every one. now that my kids are older i dont give but a few things and they are ok with that. i take surveys online when i cant sleep through out the year and earn points for restaurant gift cards to give my parents for birthdays and Christmas. they know i dont have a large income and they like being able to go eat out so it works out great.

This year I spent all year making things for family members. Part of that was 3 crocheted blankets in the shape of mermaid tails. About 2 weeks ago I received a list from that family of things that they do not want. At the top of the list was blankets.. I was so sad I cried.

Baske in the pleasure of good hair days! LOL!!! You look great :-). Was never a "big hair" person in the 80's either, straight and short. As I've "matured", my hair has actually gotten wavier on it's own, and I do use a straight iron once in a while to "dress it up". Love it!

Your time is just as valuable as any monetary item, even more so. So yes, this is a great fundamentally frugal tip. You got it done anyway. :)

we like so buy ornaments from a craft store and make or paint them to give as gifts. It puts more thought and less money into it. I hope people understand the sentiment but even if they don't, it teaches that sentiment to the kids. we also give cards and photos.
