Thanks to this channel, I got the opportunity to loan the APO-SUMMICRON-M 35 f/2 ASPH from a fellow Leica shooter. This is probably the best lens I have ever used.
I took it to the Kalmthoutse Heide for some morning light and this is what I got. It's not much, but it got me excited for some extra trips with it.
For video, I used the GoPro Hero 9 Black.

Love love love seeing people doing landscapes with an M camera. Not just a street photography camera!

Happy to see you like the landscape & M photography combo :-). Although it's not a weather sealed system, it feels right at home in the outdoors :-D.

@@berndvandecruys it’s great. Only peeve I have using M in landscape is you can’t turn off long exposure noise reduction on the Ms. Leica needs to fix that.

I used a Summilux 21mm as my main landscape lens when I went to Madagascar in September. It was magic. I’m taking the same Summilux to Tibet in February. It’s a banger

Very interesting to see you explore new subject matter (nature shots without the human element) and new techniques (very close focus). Personally I've had a lot of fun shooting from very close, something for which the Fuji X100V - that you recommended me - is exceptionally well suited. I love the colours and atmosphere in the 4:33 and 5:17 shots. I knew the latter was going to be good when I heard your reaction in the video. I wonder if the antenna (?) in the tall grass at 4:29 would make a nice subject for a future shot.

Photography, the gift that keeps on giving 😄. A bit of diversity in subject matter keeps the creative juices flowing 😇. This lens renders colours exceptionally, it’s truly amazing. Together with the microcontrast and 🪒 sharpness it packs a punch. Good eye, the antenna does make for a nice subject, contrasting nature with a human structure. Something to go back to. We should plan that photo trip 🗓

I was lucky enough to be able to get hold one of these lenses, which I have had for just a week now, early days but the images I have taken with it so far certainly has impressed me. Is it worth the money? Well, only time will tell but for the work I do being able to focus at 'normal' rangefinder distances and then close focus under .7m is a real bonus. The only way I was able to do this on one lens previously was with the Q2 which was also a joy to use and another optical marvel from Leica.

@berndvandecruys 2 года назад
Thanks for your feedback on your experience with the lens so far. I have not yet used the Q2, but almost everyone that I know that has used one is very very positive about it. The 28mm 1.7 with macro possibilities is worth the price of the Q on itself (in the Leica world of course :-)).

Great video - There's no denying the unique M-lens feature and IQ, but I'll happily keep my Summilux-M 35mm f/1.4 ASPH bolted to my M10-R.
@berndvandecruys
@berndvandecruys 2 года назад
I think the Lux paired with a 10-R is a great combo indeed! I am really curious about the M11 and if they managed to make the rangefinder compatible with 30cm minimal focus distance. If not, I imagine the rumoured new Visoflex will be the go-to combo for using the 35mm APO. In any case, I had a really fun experience with this pinnacle lens from Leica! Cheers!

Does it bother you if you have your shadow in the photo?
@berndvandecruys
@berndvandecruys 2 года назад
Good question. It depends on the photo I think. Most of the time I am out shooting alone or I am the ‘family photographer’ and then it’s nice to use a reflection or shadow to be ‘present’ in some moments. ✌🏻

@berndvandecruys
@berndvandecruys 2 года назад
A 35mm is made for basically everything, travel, street, landscape, … boring or exciting depends on the viewer. As mentioned in the video, I got the opportunity to borrow this extraordinary lens for a quick test while enjoying the outdoors. I don’t pretend that these photos are masterpieces in any way. Lenses and cameras are made for enjoying photography. I wish you lots of photography fun in 2022 and beyond in any case. ✌🏻

I'll be quite blunt in saying that you are an idiot in NOT using a neck strap on an expensive camera/lens combo. It's not waterproof , it can always fall over over a cliff and once it's at the bottom sea floor what good are the optics then?My point is, Gravity is always there , I once dropped a HASSELBLAD only 1 metre ( thats an event/feeling I wish I don't want to go through again) I ended up paying an expensive repair.Wish you all the best.BTW I have a Leica SL2
@berndvandecruys
@berndvandecruys 2 года назад
Thanks for the good advice! I do carry a sling bag when I’m not using the camera and I have a thumb grip on it as well for support while in use. But you’re right, a neck strap gives even more peace of mind. How are you liking the SL system?
@larsrosing5033
@larsrosing5033 2 года назад
Hardly any difference between better consumer lenses and these very expensive Leica lenses! Maybe you only see the differenses when you really blow up images. Not really worth the extra cost for daily use on medias! And maybe if you are an artist or a portrait photographer for magazines it may be visible! 😁 😉 Anyway thats my opinion
@berndvandecruys
@berndvandecruys 2 года назад
With the vast majority of photography consumed via social media on a smartphone screen these days (and the file compression that accompanies it), these feats of optical engineering are limited to showcase their true potential. In that context it is almost impossible to show a difference that warrants the steep price point. Although seeing how they are able to fit all that engineering in such a tiny package is absolutely wonderful. You’ll appreciate my next video, where I used a GF45mm on a GFX body to play around and do a blind comparison with the 35mm APO. Spot which combo took which photograph :-) ✌🏻
