The new type pressure valve have a 1/4 turn vent built in to help when draining the tank. Drill a clearance hole in the corner of the cover so you can turn it when needed.

Thanks, I thought it may be to help with drain down. I've kept it so may re-fit it in the future.

Hi Alex, just had a problem with my hot water system, it would not switch on, (red & green light) found it had a split in the hot water connection, snapped at where it screws into the burner, so had to take it out as it was leaking water all in the compartment, now it can dry out, so while it was out I gave it a good service, it was fairly clean really, so when the adapter turns up then I can refit it back in place, started off going to replace the exhaust rubber mounts, when I came across the water leak, so rubber mounts will have to wait.
@ttxela
@ttxela 3 года назад
They do seem to suffer with splits and leaks on connections. Too much intermittent heating up and cooling down I guess 🤷

Same thing happened to me when removing the pressure relief valve. I used the hot knife bit on my gas powered soldering iron to carve through the plastic down to the thread opposite sides. Large flat bladed screwdriver then managed to free it. I did try a large easy out first and it just chewed the plastic up. Handy tip with the new valve, i did wonder if it would fit as it looked a bit different. Not sure if i missed the new o rings on the burner box. You seemed to just fit it without any mention.
@ttxela
@ttxela 3 года назад
Yes that pressure relief valve was a bit of a game. Sorry I forgot to mention the new O rings. An early video of mine. 👍

Hi Alex, I don't know if you have watched this video back, but when you do, look at the little meter behind you while listening to the pump, you will see both lights on, and when the hot water tank if full and the pump goes off then you will only have the one green light on,, when you drain the air out of the system, both lights are on, until you turn the taps off, then you only have a green light on.
@ttxela
@ttxela 3 года назад
Ah yes, on the zig unit? The second red light comes on to warn of low battery when the pump is on.

To remove any of the several plastic studs which may have sheared off on these heaters, heat the end of a large (old) screwdriver with a blowlamp, or your gas ring if you move fast, and ram it into the end of the broken end. Pull it out quickly and let the plastic and the screwdriver cool down. You now have a slot to turn it with and the heat will have helped to break the seal where they have grown together. A further thought. The loose plastic button on the end of the pressure release valve, is as you surmised to hold it open, to release the air and aid draining down. The later outer cover has a cut out to accommodate this. you may be able to drill the older cover in the top left corner and so use the release cap.

Alex, you do have the right pressure release valve, but you need to do what I have done, and that is ream out a bit of the outside cover on the side and a little bit on the top, as I did not want to take the end off of the valve, I will do a short video when my burner comes back from Arc Systems along with some other bits that might help someone. Hope you have not thrown that end bit away as that is to direct the water to one side in order NOT to scold you should you be in front of it

Hi Alex, typical of what most of us go through I think, I know this is an old video and you may have moved on from that but have you thought of uprating to the duel fuel one. Runs on electric also for the odd time you have electric or at home when cleaning, I found one at a breakers and changed the tank for the electrivc version when I had that system, a couple of vans back.
@ttxela
@ttxela 4 года назад
I have heard of the dual versions. I guess it would be an advantage to have the capability to heat water on electric 🤔

Pretty much. Just run the pump and open the hot tap 👍

Thanks for the video. I've just replaced my pressure relief valve, it had cracked and seems to have been the cause of some strange behaviour from the water heater. As the body of the valve fell off as soon as I touched it, I heated a screwdriver up to make a "slot" in the screw thread then, when the screwdriver had cooled, I used it to unscrew the thread. When putting the new valve body in I found that it was very tight and even using grease and oil I had to use a surprising amount of force to get the new valve in. Did you find the same? .
@ttxela

I think the thread on ours was a little stiff. Is yours working fine now?

Hi, i'm looking for some advice please, I have a 1991 talbot voyager, every time i turn the taps/pump on, water pumps out from the pressure release valve (some water does come out of the taps too), i've changed the valve for a new one, and its made no difference, what else can i try? if its a boiler issue, can i somehow bypass the boiler, i'd be happy with cold running water,,, which would be better than my water pumping out of the relief valve lol
@ttxela
@ttxela Месяц назад
Bypassing the boiler should be easy enough. It sounds like you have microswitch taps rather than a pressurised system? Has the pump been replaced with one of too high pressure?

Don't under any circumstances use a stud extractor to remove a broken pressure relief valve the taper of the the stud extractor just locks it into the heater body even more and the next thing you will hear will be the sickening crunch of the outer body snapping speaking from experience you went about it the correct way by accident and saved yourself a whole lot of hassle and money
