What size was the number 11 seal? We’re having same issue with our identical water heater. The leak is coming from the cold water inlet, rather than your hot water outlet. Where did you get your “white bit” from? Do you know what the red light would mean on the Carver Switch on board? It shows Green usually.

wow i was expecting lots of fiddly parts, defiantly well worth doing, preventative and corrective maintenance at its best ! ooooooh a lovely O ring kit there, well done on the fix and im now not scared to take my one apart in our caravan if it goes wrong , thanks for the guided video, cheers and take care

Very glad if it helps someone, if you have a Carver Cascade it's well worth checking it over, the burners are very prone to corrosion.

Just what I needed to see! I have just been on my first camping site and hey presto the water heater is leaking and I started stressing as am thinking more bloody money!..Hey presto along comes Alex on RU-vid and all is explained 🙂..Thank you so much for the strip down and rebuild YIPPEE I can do this 💪💪 Thank you again this only leaves me with a crunching gearbox( Peugeot boxer wayfarer) to get fixed..Unlike the water heater I am thinking that this will cost.. Thanks again 👍

Nice one. Love that O ring set. I used to have one but it went "missing" sometime ago it was in a beautiful case as well. Today they equivalent would be in plastic bags.

@@ttxela Old tool sets etc always are. I have two Greeparr Adaptor sets. One is old, leather case with all parts in velvet wells. Newer one is ok but plastic and sponge. Both work but there is something about using the older one :-)

Hi matey. Just checked my old notes. I think the 2 x bolts are for the gas+electric version. Not gas only. But it's all a bit confusing regarding seals and year they were made. Cheers from George

Hi could you tell me what size water pipes you use as I need new ones and they all seem to be these new push fit pipes which are same size as the valve and I am old fashion and like to use pipe to slide over top of valve thanks love your videos karen

I think newer vans are often plumbed with push fit pipes, older vans like ours are 1/2" hose. I've not actually needed to replace any pipe so ours is all original in that sense.

Hi Alex, I’m just muddling through my heater issues, we have the same heater as yours except we have the electric version as well, I think it’s for 12 volts. There is no cable coming from it and I don’t know where it would run to if I sourced one. Am I right in thinking I can ignore this built in element and just run off the gas for heating exactly like your set up? Thanks, david👍

I believe the Cascade GE is gas and 230v (mains) electric, so you can only use it on EHU on that setting. It should work on gas only with the electric heating option disconnected as long as it has 12v to the unit.

To check for leaks an even better way is to use a piece of tissue (either toilet roll or kitchen roll will do). It makes the moisture (if there is any) even easier to spot.

Alex, I wonder can you give me some advice, I have removed the carver heater from the motor home in the hope I could repair a leaking emersion heater, I bought a seal kit ready for the repair but I cannot remove the steel cylinder from the burner, it seems to be seized solid, I have tried banging it twisting it, I put WD40 on the spindle but it will not budge, I undone the nut but the spacer washer will not move, in fact no movement at all, the camper van is 19 years old so a bit corroded I imagine, just wondering if you have any suggestions, thanks in advance.

Ours came undone quite easily, of course if the spacer washer is corroded on then the tank will not move. Does it look visibly corroded on? If so I guess it's going to be a matter of persistence. Perhaps try a little tap with a brass drift or similar, or some water pump pliers with a was leather between the jaws to protect the spacer? Best of luck!

Alex, does the water pump turn off when the system is full?? or is it just certain pumps that do this.

If it's a pressurised system the pump should turn off. Not sure about the microswitch system. I think some of the 270s had them fitted.

@@ttxela What are the signs (if any) that show it is a pressurised system???

@@charlietango1635 turn the pump off then run the tap for a few seconds and turn the tap off. If the pump runs then stops it's likely working on a pressure switch. A microswitch system will have wires running to the tap. Sometimes pressurised systems will use the wired taps but the wires won't be connected.

Just a word of caution. Check that oil is rubber compatible. It may well be, but the only lubricants that I know that don't turn it brittle are silicon oil/grease & castor oil. BTW been meaning to ask for a while - doesn't it worry you sharing your home with a Flerken!!?

Good point, it's a white mineral oil so possibly not, although it does say 'harmless for plastics'. 🤣 I don't think Mr Ginge is set on world domination - unless he plans to achieve it through the medium of constant snoozing....

So the nut on the end shouldn't be too tight? When we took it off it was pretty tight, so put I back on tight...but maybe we should loosen it up before testing now? :S

I couldn't find a torque setting anywhere, it definitely doesn't need to be super tight but if you already have it together I wouldn't be inclined to loosen it in case the seals have taken a set and don't relax to a looser setting.
