What was your experience using either of these soaps in your hair?
@TheBenitaAngela

I started my locs 2 months ago and couldn’t find anything online that said NOT to use Dr Bronners. All the vids I saw were just basic reviews. So, thank you for this. It’s what I’ve been using to wash my hair.I dilute it but it’s still what I’ve been using since my 2nd wash. I just don’t know which shampoos I should try using. But, I’ll start looking

Dawn dish soap works wonders for me. But you need to use it on the first wash only, maybe 2nd wash and then follow up with a very moisturizing shampoo. Also If you are washing up your hair every two weeks like some people then no. Dont use it because yes it can be drying. I can never wash without Dawn, that dishwashing liquid is my staple product for wash day. Problem is just like gels, people dont know how to use dish soap to wash locs properly. Dawn is definitely better than using that baking soda and ACV mixture.

Yes, only on first wash. It has not damaged my hair. However, because I'm old school, I already knew to be on the watch for dryness.
@roxy5344

@@kimberlyjackson3660 we already know how drying it is so we only know first wash and that's it. They don't know how to use it properly. Dawn works wonders for locs, I swear by it.

@@roxy5344 yes ma'am! That's it for sure. Anything can be damaging if you don't do it properly.

I think that the peppermint is drying but not so much the lavender or the almond , plus your supposed to always dilute with water 🌸🌸✨
@TheBenitaAngela
@TheBenitaAngela Год назад
I use the hemp almond. No drying but I’m definitely not trying to end up with soap scum. However, Dr Bronner doesn’t recommend using just a diluted ratio of the soap for hair. She says, on her website, to follow-up the shampoo with an ACV rinse since the largest difference between soap and shampoo is the acid. I did the acv rince with my last wash-- dried my scalp so much, BUT my hair was definitely clean.

I use diluted Dr Bonners and add tea tree oil

It isn’t supposed to be used regularly. I use it once or twice a year for extreme buildup and then I use oils and a conditioner.

I used Castille soap for years and could not understand why my locs looked dull. I finally realized it was soap scum. Dr, Bonners has coconut oil which I think adds to the problem, imo. I used diluted Dawn after I stopped the Dr. Bonners but only when I thought it was needed.

I've been using Dr. B.for years and my hair is so dull and lackluster, but I don't know what to do! I am very sensitive to commercial shampoos. Any natural recommendations?

I tried de bronners one time and immediately knew I was a fool and did a detox… like 6 minutes later!!!! I have always known better than to experiment with twisting products but dish soap no. You taught me better! Lol

I've been using Sauve before I had loc and didn't really know the benefits of it. It was just cheap for me, but seeing that I have locs now. I'm sticking to it

Nope! I’ll stick with a clarifying shampoo! No Dawn, on Dr B, and no ACV+ baking soda+lemon juice for me!

I hate I missed this one. I have thought about using Dawn in my locs or my sons locs. I also use to use Dr. Bronner but i dont use it anymore as it use to dry out my hair. I use Naptural85’s black soap shampoo and it is amazing. I also like the Trader Joe’s tea tree tingle when I need to clarify.

I use black African soap to wash my hair and I put olive oil in my hair while washing also so it won't dry out my hair

I used dawn on my loc ends not to the root and next I used my shampoos. I used dr. Bonner/peppermint diluted with water and followed with my shampoos. I haven't used either in quite some time

I can't remember who posted but remember someone saying Dr Bronners is affected by hard water vs soft water. But I found Dr Bronners is drying on my skin as well. I currently use Dr Jacobs but I haven't tried it as shampoo.

Great conversation.. Thank you for sharing your expertise. I have tried both, its been over 10 years back on my first set of locs. I’ve since learned the importance of Ph Balance… Dr. Bronners is so alkaline that its just not suitable for hair… Same with dish soaps. Can you please share and have a conversation in regards to Ph Balance of hair products. I’d love to hear your thoughts… Be well…

I noticed a film after 1 or 2 uses of dr bonners. My friend was using for years ans he asked me to retwist the front before we went out. His hair was so dirty after washing with dr bonners!

Hi Jocelyn, thanks for sharing. What are those strings you have criss crossed in your locs? I tend to see them in gold, but I'm not sure where I can purchase them or the type of material to look for.

Most of you must not read the Dr. B label. It clearly says dilute dilute dilute and follow up with acv and conditioner. If you see residue it is because your locs already had residue which the mixture is bringing to the surface. I am sorry but I would not listen or allow anybody that uses Dawn dishsoap on my hair. Unless you are a duck what makes you think it would work for a humans hair. 😂😂😂

I do dilute my Dr. B with water, acv and a moisturizing shampoo all in one then hydrate with rosemary hibiscus water or rose water/aloe water/mint tea + oils but I'm only 5 months loc'd I haven't had any issues
