@Redm140 they also talk about a small turbo and large turbo. This is false, both turbos are the same size and run parallel, each turbo taking care of 3 cylinders. Not sure they know what they are talking about.
This wastegate rattle issue happens on all early n54s it was a recall in the US but UK never got it. Two options. Upgrade the turbos to bigger (fixed ones with thicker wastegate actuator rods) or buy a JB4 tuning box which fixes it temporarily. It has wastegate adjustment built in to stop the rattle and overboost issue. You can also adjust the actuator by spinning the bolt up tighter. Again this is only a temporary fix though. Had the exact same thing happen to mine before. Also if you are doing a lot of work maybe look at changing the high pressure fuel pump (another recall) which will fail eventually.
Ricky, the turbos are identical sizes on the N54. Each turbo feeds each bank of three in unison. The sequential turbo set up was found on the 335d/535d engine. Waste gate failure is with stock turbos is one the most common issues with the N54, you will need to replace the turbos sooner rather than later. Do another tie up with Peter in Belgium for some Pure turbo upgrades replacements 🙂 (long time N54 owner 654 hp)
What did you do to get it to that power without doing a single turbo set up? I have a E92 335i and currently replacing all the plastic bits and hopefully next year change the turbos.
Great engine after you change the turbos, injectors, HPFP , LPFP, valve cover , vanos solenoids, sump gasket, oil filter housing gasket, charge pipe, water pump , sump gasket again after the belt gets sucked through the front main seal , water pump again , coolant tank
That's some premium service you're getting there. Same day recovery and fix, even if it's temporary, that's still great. Having them connections is always good!
The car was actually already on its way to us ironically. The overheating just delayed the actual diagnostic and other filming. Didn’t go to plan whatsoever, but we always try to help out 💙
@@BDPerformanceWrexham everyone makes mistakes sometimes. You still clearly know what your doing and talking about! I’d never heard of you guys before you came on LLF channel, from Manchester and would defo bring my Gti to you guys to work some magic on!
@@Danny_Transition_Patrol thank you 🙏 Really appreciate the people who’ve taken the time to comment. It was a long day and I certainly made a few clangers in my description along the way - I knew what I meant in my own head 🤦♂️ Certainly totally appreciate the advice and kind interjections from the viewers, plus the corrections. Really really do appreciate the support from Ricky and all the Subscribers 💙
@@BunDMC you know when you watch something back and think 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️ But it shows we are all human and sometimes don’t engage your brain when talking. Hopefully you guys don’t hold it against me. Thanks for the comments, Darren 🙏
A lovely looking car really hope you get it sorted. The only reason I sold on my W204 C63 was because it started to run rough and nobody could get to the bottom of why.....
They might be knowledgable but clearly not on this platform 🤣 Ricky take your car to a bmw specialist they will have resolved these issues a thousand times.
Ahh the classic thermostat and water pump. In 3 years of owning an N54 135i I had to get them replaced twice. Then had leaking vaccum lines and a cracked radiator 💀💀 Would still buy another N54 car though, there's something about that engine 👌🏽
I replaced that plastic boost tank resiviour with a billet made metal one on mine and the boost issue light went away , even diesels get those codes , N54s love suffering from waste gate rattle
If you wanna know anything N54 related or fancy taking one that is properly sorted out for a drive let me know, I’ve been involved with it all for 10 years now so could give u some sound advice on what to do n what issues u will get!
@@davidstuart4915 Turbos are parallel and I own a tuned N54 335i, been to several garage, these guys are much better than the average so called BMW specialists, they did the diagnosis and repair well, even if they said turbos are sequential.
As much as i love the N54 platform it's the common issue's that puts me off not gonna lie bloody sound's awesome and rapid for a simple stage 1 map! It's one of the reasons why I sold my E93 had it only for 6 month's replaced a lot of common issues that was addressed too! Got my money back in the end and £1k profit after 👍
Water pump HPFP Injectors Charge pipe A few of the known issues. Get MHD and bigger turbos that will cure the wastegate rattle too. I have gone fully forged and bigger turbos.
Had the same issue on my 335i, it was horrible, sometime you have power, sometimes not. Went the same way, cheapest solution first until we knew it was the wastegates.. Loved the car but I had to sell it.
Bet your getting 30ff codes generally means turbos are getting warn, I run rob beck stage 2s n they have been good for the past 4 years of constant abuse, charge pipe onto throttle body usually leaks, you’ll be buying index 12 injectors soon and new coils! Down the rabbit hole u go mate!
I had the samilar issue, I put a brand new waterbomb, for the power loss/hesitate I change a loooot of things before we fix it, 1st catalyst, cleaning zelenoids, cleaning MAF sensor, change plugs, and finally we get the error message that point direct to the 3rd cilinder...so I change injector.
BD are either gonna do a sponsor build or paying for promotion. I'd be very surprised if we don't see a modded focus owned by LLF in the future, Rather than go with a Civic type R sponsored by his mate it would of been cool see a 2004 fiesta ST instead with some trick bits done by the boys at BD now we have been introduced to them.
@@RA-di9ie Yeah, Not sure why Ricky did the M5 tbh. Its all content so glad he gets paid just my opinion wasn't excited to see a built M5. Now with his various other additions to the fleet would of liked to see something a little different
If the bush was worn as said in the video you would have got a wastgate rattle for sure also the 30ff code can also just be a shadow code when the car is in limp mode as it deliberately reduces engines power and considering the car overheated 30ff would definitely be present. Also you could have tested the solenoids before ordering using a vac Guage to rule it out as the fault
@@BDPerformanceWrexham yup we all have those days, in terms of the wastegate seating properly instead of poking around with a pry bar use either the sucking method or again a vaccum gun and attached it to the vaccum line leading to the turbo and see if it holds the vaccum or not further to that the wastegate flap is a self.adjusting flap that resides on a pivot to ensure the tightest seal possible, I would never adjust the 10mm nut just like that as you will notice either a white or green mark on the rod itself set to the desired calibrated actuator based on the hg applicable for that turbo..all you have done is shorten the life span of the turbo as one will close faster than the other increasing that turbos wgdc ie making it work harder to meet the required boost
When TGE says: “my car has a problem” on a RU-vid video, it usually means he found road dust inside his wheel arch. 😂 Much better when people do really videos like this.
Salaam brother eid Mubarak. I know this is completely off topic but i have a vw which is acting weird in regards to fuel consumption and slow delayed throttle response once warmed up. Can you recommend any garages that i can take it to I'd really appreciate it. Im willing to travel thanks imran
Ha, ha, both turbos are the same size? I have an N54. 30FF is 90%+ usually the hoses due to a boost leak. Replace all the old brittle crap with silicon hoses. Everywhere! Only $40 or so. Then also get a aluminium / metal upgraded charge pipe. Simple mods. Glad you replaced the water pump! Pure turbos and a tune next... 600+ hp👌🏻
Turbos on the N54 are the same size. Probably should take your car to a garage that knows that. (N54 owner three years) and spent a fortune both in repairs and preventative.
Sounds like it. 🤔 Except when they keep referring to "the bigger turbo" n54 has 2x identical sized turbos. The only different between them is mirrored orientation. Then again, they are ford specialists so I guess it's OK to get some things wrong with other manufacturers.
When you slide down a rabbit hole of saying the wrong thing on camera; you keep repeating it! Sorry - I’ve often called a Focus a Fiesta on camera 🤦♂️
PMP cars in Nuneaton, highly regarded N54 specialists if you want to get the wastegates upgraded. Are you keeping the car stock, with it being a rarity? If not, it'll be more cost effective to just upgrade the turbos.
Wastegates are rubbish on these. You need refurbed turbos from PMP in Nuneaton. They are N54 specialists and do a full refurb in a day. Best in the business.
M8 i have the n55 ewg m135i, after reading your comment, i checked there site out, been looking for a company to do the walnut blast, so cheers pal for the heads up
N54 engine is the biggest headache, see my channel i fixed a bunch of issues . I had a 335i, . Rick needs to change that little intercooler. Change all the pressurized hoses , get a good charge pipe and MHD that.
