Just me reviewing a few of the issues I had during installation and also how I fixed an problem I had with the engine spinning but not catching the gears.
its crazy how many people have problems with these motors. i haven't had any problems with them. i make a living ordering from eBay and installing them on bikes and selling it as a whole set are selling the motor to people that don't work to wait for shipping. ill charge labor to mount it on there bike for them if they have a compatible bike frame. its a blast to build them. my dad brother and sister go riding every weekend. just live life with a good attitude and have fun with it.
I do one gallon of non ethanol 91 gas and 8oz of fully synthetic 2 cycle oil. I use the fully synthetic 2 cycle oil from Walmart the super tech brand. Mix in the 8oz of oil and 91 gas in a 1 gallon gas can. Mix before adding to the motorbike gas tank. It will smoke a little if you mix it right. But after it warms up it will not smoke as bad. Now if you're motor is new it will smoke a lot more until its broken in. But do want I said. You may need to drain your gas tank and buy a one gallon gas can just for you bike. Fill the can up with the best gas there is 87, 89, 91 at the gas station get 91. After you have the gallon of gas add (pour)8oz of fully synthetic 2-cycle oil and shake the shit out of it. Now you have the perfect gas to oil mix. You can get the oil at Walmart it will come in little 3oz or 6.5oz silver bottles. It will take some riding to get all the other oil out of the motor. Just have fun there's not much to these little Motors.
I don't know how you get so lucky. My engine kits have rattled themselves loose before break in. I have broken chains 4 times so far. Only about 4 months into these, but the two I've built have all fallen apart before I even got to enjoy them. Back to electric for me. At least they run great....
Can you help me by answering a few questions about installation? Im Traveling north and south America with a small cargo trailer. Before I buy a engine I would like to know about the frame size of the bicycle when it comes to the engine installation.
Raleigh for Free?!? He'll yes! I'm definitely starting to keep my eyes open for those old junk throw-out bikes. I have seen so many of them in the past and never thought twice about them being useful but now- the older and heavier the better! Sweet little ride there man, thanks for sharing!
Besides all the little problems you occur, you did well. Great job, got mine put together after 2 weeks, but it didn't start so that's why I'm here see what I did wrong. Such a bump...was do excited now not so sure.
Good Video .. that key on the shaft is called a woodruff key. It is a softer type metal incase the gears were to seize that metal key will shear instead of the shaft or gears snap into.
Thanks for sharing. Its all good information for me. I'm just looking into the idea of motorizing my bike. I still want to ride my bike for exercise. Now I'll know what to do if anything like these problems happen when I intall a motor.
dood on the front wheel just get a piece of 3/8 fine threaded rod pop out the existing axle and install the new one it should be the same size only difference is it will be a little bit longer and not have a hole in the center of it I did this on both of my rims .no need to buy a new rim you will be amazed at how easy it is. you should be able to use the same bearings just repack some grease while you're there took me approx 10 minutes per rim.I used axles from old rims I had around
Ive been riding motorized bicycles for 3 years. I recently bought a gizmo hero moped from 95. I love my moped but the problem with it is that if I get a flat (( has one now )) I have to push it home. My motorized bicycle though can be walked with little trouble. My first kit was horrible because I did like you. I used all the stock parts. After I bought a CNC sprocket and mount my issues disappeared. My ownly concern when I ride it is breaking power and the wheel. Once the wheel go's out its a pain in the ass to take the sprocket off because I use lock tite. Anyways sorry to hear about your troubles. Hope your riding your mopeds as much as I ride my motorized bicycle.
the chain is touching the frame if you noticed, use a washer as a spacer or you going to have problems with it soon if didn't have them yet, when you installed the sprocket outwards tend to hit the frame and it gets damage easily like it happened to me
my tank valve leaked like amf until I took it apart flipped over the rubber gasket and worked it into place and presto !! no more leaks ..AT ALL I was amazed At first you may think oh this isn't going to fit reversed but it will if you just work it in. So after gallons of gas being dripped out constantly for 2 years i finally fixed it 6 months and still no leaks not even the slightest , this in turn allows my filter and line to fill completely with fuel no air in the line at all
Need some high performance parts! You can mod just about everything on these and it doesn't say anywhere what cc the engine is. Surprised I haven't gotten a ticket yet because I don't stop at stop signs unless I have to and I don't raise my arm when I'm turning or anything. You should definitely get a better chain tensioner the factory one sucks. You can get a digital speedometer from Amazon and it's just a small thing that goes on one of the spokes and it will fit
if you take a bit of teflon tape and the one red gasket that stops it leaking from the tank . now to stop it leaking from the valve itself is to take the valve off the tank then take the two screws out. Don't lose ob longed round spring. then flip over the rubber gasket inside with the 4 holes in it re assemble and presto the leak stops ive done this on 3 valves so far and every one stopped leaking
Exactly. Those kits come with wide downtube adapters.. if he absolutely needed to grind metal down he shouldve grinded the bottom of the crank case that mounts to the frame. Plenty of extra metal there...
For others ....if you mentioned that you have the larger tube bicycle they would have sent you the larger adapters for the motor and tank also if you take some old inner tube and wrap it around the frame where your motor mounts are you will cut down tremendously on vibration same with the mirror put some old inner tube around the handle bars then put the mirroor on you will notice much less vibration
you got the crap kit. the one with the orange kill switch and silver push button clutch handle are pretty poor. I have 1000 miles on my kit and still on the original parts.
I buy old bikes at yard sales all the time usually 5-10 bucks and the parts are invaluable. I've saved $ thousands$ on parts this way , in your case all you would have to do is unthread an axle from an old front rim it will fit right into your existing front rim as soon as you remove the short axle with the hole all the way through the center of it thats all it is bro,is an axle shortened with a hole drilled through it for the quick connect rod to go in no special parts needed I hope this helps
OH! .... I noticed you have the stock chain retention on the bike....get rid of it, and get a spring retention on it. ..... works much better, and lets the whole system not be put under a strain my friend.
Ive got a 48cc kit and the darn thing works pretty good , about 200 hundred miles, so far no problems too cry about, I mounted the engine on a Schwinn cruiser bike which is a piece of junk, very cheap metal on the bike , if you buy one you`ll have to replace the kick stand , it`s crapp, I`ve got a 1975 Schwinn continental ten speed that I used to go back and forth to work with, and it`s a hundred times better than anything Schwinn makes today.
albert costello yeah, old Schwinns are awesome. I just paid $50 for an 83 Sting Ray with an 80cc 2stroke and an upgraded ignition and aluminum head. Deal of the year!
That's a vehicle fuel filter for fuel pump designed carbs and they really suck. Same one let my new Holley get full of tiny debris on my 69 Super Bee. Best to use the screen type filters on these small engines so you can remove it and clean it. Briggs filters work well, Red= gravity fed carbs the white are for fuel pump design. Flow is much better...
basically all you have to do to solve the computer problem is put a strip of 'lectric tape around the handlebars where the killswitch goes, and just run a wire down to something like the seatpost or the cranks to ground it.
I bought my first bike a few weeks back it looked like it had been out on the street for some time, it was fun to ride it so I bought it, every day!!! literally it gave me issues if it's not one thing it was the other till finally the moter just shaped out of place. two days ago I said fuck it and went a head and bought a brand new bike with a brand new moter sofar 20 miles I can say with no problems couldn't ride it today but let's see how reliable these things really are
Your bike is leagal. but you got to regurstur it. since it is over 49cc. but that is ez. and you dont need a mirror or lights on this bike (In CA) CVC 406 (B). Exzempt from DOT. but nice bike. and it is legal. Cant go faster than 30mph, and your clutch is ok. they mean that you cant change gears. since you have only one gear its fine.... even centrifical clutch is a clutch. and the only thang i know is a goped has direct drive... And you do not need a licen's to ride this. or inshurnce. Check it out on my page.
We got a law abiding citizen here! Lmao. That's why you put a sticker on it that says 49cc. Most cops don't know shit about motorbikes, let alone the laws that they're meant to uphold. Legality of these things is state to state, it may be totally legal where he lives. Also, I'm sure he knows the laws surrounding his own property, but thanks for the unwarranted advice! (Word to the wise, most people absolutely hate unwarranted advice and the CHUDs that dole it out)
I wish mine had a recoil starter!......I can't ride mine any more because I almost have a heart attack trying to start it. (68 years old, and prone to heart trouble)
Do you have any other tips for building this my kit arrives this Monday it's my Christmas present and I'm kinda dreading the build I am fairly good with electronics but never did much engine stuff.
smart guy you must be Canadian because you could easily have ground the aluminum motor mount which is softer and easier to grind rather than the steel frame which is structural integrity and what is holding your life
demonofrazgriz333 fuck the city iv been chased by cops over a dozen times in my suburban nabourhood and get away every time becuase i know the area like the back of my hand
Just cause it’s more than 49cc isn’t what makes it illegal it could be a 49cc and still be technically illegal in most or all states just some states there illegal some states have restrictions if it goes faster than 20 mph and other states either has to register it and or have a drivers or moped license and some don’t
First time trying to start up a motorized bicycle leave the choke open soon as I start up I close the choke engine shuts off... If you know why that please let cause it is all I think buy still engine shuts off
hey i have a problem too. i had it work perfectly for 3 months and then i started it today and once i got up to maybe 30 km/h it just died for no reason. any ideas please
(i need help) i was riding my 80cc motorised bike and accidentally disengaged my clutch and the engine started to rev like crazy, right after the motor wouldn't accelerate, i have no idea whats happened .
yes, the manufacturing of the hardware is horrible. several washers were edge nipped being unusable, very disappointed with the fasteners in these kits. holes in the rubber sprocket clamp pieces are poorly aligned also. but for the price, they are workable if you area good mechanic. its hit or miss if you get a good kit without defects or not
haha i got a rag rapped around my gas tank too haha i need your help mabey you can help me mabey you cant but but when i first got the engine it was very fact over 30 mph and it exceperated fast and you could feel the power. 2 months later the power is very week it only goes under 10 mph and it does not accelerate quickly when i turn off the gas and keep riding it, it suddently gives full speed and power like it normaly did any sugustions it would b greatly appriceated
hey i just bough one today and i rode it home a few miles turned it off then the back tail wheel locked up idk wa happ! and i tried the clutch etc idk wa do i do>>>
+Jimbo Langham i had a look on ebay for "dual cable brake lever" and found some there. heres a couple of links: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dual-Cable-Brake-Lever-BMX-Disabled-Motorbike-Scooter-Bicycle-Motorised-Bike-/321467445521?hash=item4ad8f3f111 www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UP-2-Pyramid-Alloy-Mountain-Bike-Dual-Cable-Brake-Lever-/361297626370?hash=item541f044502
+Jimbo Langham BAD IDEA... GREAT WAY TO MEET OR GREET A PARKED CAR OR STREET SIGN WITH YOUR NOSE OR GET RUN OVER BY A TRUCK IF Y'ALL LOSE YOUR BRAKES... LEAVE THE BEAKES INDEPENDENT OKAY... DON'T BE A DOPE LIKE THAT KID...
Iam new about motor bikes a have one and need to to know how to work on it and take care of it liked i need to know how to adjust the chain cause when I'am driving it it feels like its pulling a little
+Sarah Hamlett HARLEY BEE VIDEOS WATCH ALL OF THEM IF NOT CALL 570-459-6988.... WATCH MY VIDEOS. ANY QUESTION IS VALID EVEN IF YOU THINK IT'S STUPID. DUTCH
+Tyler Gurley CHECK THE CHAIN GEAR HOUSING COVER IT MAY HAVE HAVE COME LOOSE OR THE DRIVE GEAR INSIDE. THEN TAKE OFF THE CLUTCH COVER ON THE OTHER SIDE. I HAD A FLOWER WHEEL COME APART SOUNDED MUCH LIKE YOU DESCRIBED...
smart idea what's going away on both sides of the frame to a bicycle that's designed to go 10 miles an hour now that it has a motor and you're going to be riding at 40 miles an hour great idea buddy
you did say something very smart if you get pulled over you just tell him it's 48cc or 49cc they have no idea and the motors have no marks if your motor is a good enough motor to actually have a stamp you just take that little plate off with the screwdriver
I don't think a clutch makes it illegal, a transmission will, they`re single speed , if it has a motor and you shift gears then its a motorcycle, as near as I can figure, keep in mind , anything with a motor you need a drivers license,
Hey get that sprocket off your spokes. You are risking your wheel from getting ripped apart. buy a jackshaft or a wheel hub adapter. The life you save may be your own!! Oh yeah as long as you keep the pedals on the bike cops won't stop you. if you remove them then it's a crime to drive around town.
The problem with these kits is that it's all such cheap crap. Threads strip, brackets crack, and like the guy say's lot's of stuff didn't fit right from the factory.
Yeah, but the parts are amazingly cheap. Even the quality aftermarket parts are cheap. I haven't needed parts. My bike just keeps going and going. I just clean the air filter that I made myself out of foam that I oil once a month. I must have gone hundreds of miles. Loving it. Best. Bike I ever owned. Even a whole engine replacement is only 80. I think that's cheap for a whole engine. I replaced screws with Allen head pretty cheap. I don't know on anything that's more fun for 150 for your first kit. You can't do much with that little now days. I think that this make these kits a extreme value. Not to mention gas prices to. Happy trails friends.
Interesting. A whole list of problems from Cineseum pot metal to miss aligned bolt holes...just proves one thing to me....buy a piece of chit and spend all yer time working on it...you end up with a jerry rigged piece of chit!
