All QANTAS did during the recovery was punish staff/rip off customers and campaign for all sorts of useless social issues rather than actually rebuilding the brand and renewing the fleet. They should have leased or even purchased second hand furloughed 787s.

I flew AU to NZ recently, a Emirate's run that was outsourced to QANTAS. I flew business class and was in row 7, they had run out of one of their food options by the time they got to me, there was no WIFI, the service was poor, the flight was 5hrs late, the crews uniforms were dirty, I could go on. We spent so much money to ensure they survived the pandemic, only to be hit with higher fees, cancelations and less destinations offered nationally. They aren't the national carrier, more lake the national farrier, they certainly have been treating us like donkeys.

When I have any choice in airline I am an "anyone but Qantas or Jetstar". This is based on 29 years of work requiring regular air travel with 10 years of at least weekly round trips. Qantas consistently managed to alter my bookings without notification, lost my luggage 24 times, and on four separate flight interior overhead panels fell out on take off. These are just some of the highlights of my Qantas experiences. Whenever I am booked Qantas or Jetstar I have great difficulty sleeping for the 2 days before the flight knowing what to expect from them. During my work life talking to their managers, they were despondent themselves about the way HO was taking them and the lack of resources they had at hand at various times.

The issue that I have seen with the management changes that Qantas have made is bringing in a new CEO who learnt everything from Joyce! I would have thought an outsider could have brought in a shake up!

Spot on with the commentary with experienced staff leaving the airline. It is especially pertinent in the maintenance arm of the airline, as experienced staff who knows the respective airframe leave, work becomes less efficient and training new staff has become harder than ever.

What is important for Qantas to focus on in the short term is their long term plan. The Qantas motto at the moment is basically to put on flights to places where they have little competition in terms of product, price, flights. If the compeition gets too tough they reduce flights to the point where they can hold up their prices. Qantas have lost their way. Old planes on Domestic Routes, under investment across the business, trading on their brand. This airline is tired, and over-rated.

Have to agree. The staff are the only thing (sadly) holding this business together. Frequent cancellations and delays, off-site call centre, no one can understand-zero customer service when you do try to call - It's tragic from what was to what is. Traditionally airlines have never been shares worth investing in, but sitting in a tin can jammed packed to the point of ridiculous it not the purpose of a national carrier. Charge more, take two rows out and people would purchase for the personal space! The carrier has budget option, use it, hence Jetstar! Surprisingly Air Zealand launched the Max in 2018 - amazing economy seating and service. Great seats, lots of room, easy and a very comfortable experience.

Brit here, flew Qantas many times before but that was in the days of the 747. Now going by all the complaints, make their 'new fleet' risky, in that they will need customers to fill them! What CEO's see in the boardroom, is NOT what the travelling public see and have to put up with.(we've had all this crap with BA for decades and its not even British!) I always loved Qantas, shame that they have had the same type of CEO Boeing has had.

Modernising fleet and buying fuel efficient planes are materialistic fixes. Qantas team should focus on improving hospitality and customer service (most of the in-flight staff leave their smiles on the ground). The in-flight food and entertainment service has gone downhill compared to their asian counterparts. The food options in the business lounges in Sydney and Melbourne are not worth visiting. But at the same time flight tickets have continued to soar with poor service and connectivity. I have stopped using them unless I don't have a choice. Seems Qantas has a lot of catching to do and once an iconic Australian brand has been damaged tremendously by the previous overseas Executive Team. Qantas used to be in top 5 airlines and now they don't even feature in Skytrax top 10.

Catering in all parts of the airline has deteriorated from even 2019 standards. I am a QF Platinum with lifetime Gold but have now stopped flying QF this year.

@@Emperorvalse the problem with the cost cutting spiral is it never stops and you lose customers as you do it which drives it further. If you are not a budget airline don't try to be lowest cost .... Premium price low cost does not work...

@@kutto5017 Lost cost high fare worked for QF after the collapse of AN and DJ at the time was firmly in the LCC model. It wasn't until Borghetti started to make DJ into VA as a full service carrier that forced QF to improve its service offering or shift routes to JQ. I fear QF will continue this downward trend for a long time to come until VA once again becomes a significant competitor.

Every airline faced major challenges post pandemic. The push to destroy the brand was more media lead than anything. As someone who flies regularly across all the top airlines in Asia/Middle East, they have been much better than most.

I am thinking about going with REX for my flying Tasmania to WA for work it would mean booking twice for flights they don't have the App that Qantas has but I just sick of spending $10000+ each year on flights. Putting up with continual flight delays and maintenance issues only to hear about the CEO walking away with a $20million hand shake the rest of the board offering a poor apology.

Qantas is my last choice of carrier due to their absolutely dreadful service on board. I recently flew business class to Johannesburg. The attitude of the crew was shocking and the food looked like vomit. All this cost me $9k. NEVER AGAIN. I now have switched my allegiance to Singapore Airlines. So much better!

Flew businesses class from Sydney to Santiago on Qantas. One of the worst experiences I've had on a plane. Cabin was old and dirty and flight attendants were no where to be seen. Food was mediocre .Would've rather traveled in the cargo hold. Their my last choice whenever i travel overseas.

As an Australian, I would never fly Qantas/Jetstar unless I had absolutely no choice. This is all due to a very poor experience on a flight from LHR to SYD via SIN and Jetstar not being able to fly on-time every time I've used them (actually prefer their A320 to the B737 for short distant flying as well). My flights before the pandemic were all to/from the UK, nowadays they are between BNE & SYD so there's a load of choice (Rex and Virgin being the main choices for me) but once I can get to flying internationally, it'll be the likes of China Arilines, Singapore & Malaysia that will get my hard earned $ and probably United as well. Sometimes that 1 stop in LAX/SFO is only 2-3hrs longer than going via Asia or Middle East.

@@jjjddd231On the SIN to SYD segment - the cabin crew that had joined the plane ignored the 1 section that I was sitting in to a point where even when doing the meal times there was a decidedly different response to my side of the plane compared to how they spoke to the one's sitting in the center of the plane. This was now around 10yrs ago. I did fly with them to Auckland for a work trip (I didn't book that one) and the service was a lot better but they still are on my no fly list

Every flight (dom or Intl) is1) with poor service on board 2) lost or dramatically delayed luggage 3) Lounges (except First class) are the joke of the industry 4) Brand image is very POOR. 5) Staffing service at the different airports (which are their OWN staff) need to learn what Customer Service means. You want more examples????????

After reading a lot of reviews about the Customer Service of QANTAS, and the offerings of inflight products, I was very reluctant to book with them. However, I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt, and decided to book through them on my next trip in March to Australia and New Zealand. Let's hope they don't mess it up.

Most use the dominant airline in the country as the "flag" carrier. I. E. KLM Dutch, BA British, Lufthansa Germany etc. Qantas is a 100 year old airline that has been Australia lead airline since theres been airlines.

Being the safest airline in the world is no longer enough. The passenger experience & quality thereof has slipped badly. They will need to work very hard & have almost a paradigm shift if they are to get anywhere near Singapore Airlines with their passenger experience. But if they ever achieve this I will never know as I will either be too old & have died or continued to fly with Singapore Airlines.

I'm frustrated by the current issues at Qantas. They remain the most convenient option for my family and I when flying to our home city of Manila from our second home city in Wellington. One stop via Sydney, compared to two stops if I booked with Air New Zealand, Cathay Pacific or Singapore Airlines. Qantas needs to up its game or the Asian and Gulf airlines will consume further market share. Qatar is looking to buy Virgin. If that doesn't send alarm bells, I don't know what will.

Qantas international will now never be able to rise above being potentially one of the bigger and better second tier airlines. It is sad to say and see, was very proud when I worked there almost a decade in the noughties. But I've subsequently worked for SQ and EK, and consulted to EY, VA and WN and seen how well run airlines can be, Qantas cannot get back to the same level. (Well okay, maybe not VA, but did really like their BNE-LAX service in J.)

Its funny... we constantly hear the "I'm never travelling with Qantas ever again" and "Qantas reputation is dropping in the market place".... yet looking at actual stats paints a different picture. This isnt a Qantas Supporting post, or trying to shy away from their "problems" - but the passenger numbers are actually healthy. Their load factor is healthy. Seems the more people "refuse" to fly with them, more other people are starting to fly with them. Yes, their 737s are aging. They need replacements (the seats are uncomfortable on any flights longer than 90 minutes). The A330's need replacing (we know 787's are coming in to replace them). Yes, their lounges need updating. Yes, they arent back to pre-Covid levels of passenger numbers. But its not all doom and gloom.

Just remember that Australian companies who have to do business (you wonder why???) with the government HAVE to use QF since VA lost the exclusive agreement under Liberal....In other words, labour unions "oblige" to use this hopeless airline. Have Australians ever wondered why international travellers AVOID their flag ship airline ???????....Just ask the next time but do not be surprised about the answers

@@RaymondEABos I don't know where you get such information, but it's false. I've worked for 2 organizations who work with the Australian govt. Flying travel policies are NOT on ANY RFPs issued by the Australian govt. Our travel policies are "whatever is the cheapest flight" via our travel agent. Those flights offered QF, VA and Rex. International flights, my teams have used SQ and MAH when arriving inbound

I haven’t flown with Qantas for 25 years but I decided to give them another shot in April & had 2 Interstate flights and 2 international flights & all I can say is that it was worse than what I remembered it to be. The interstate flight was something else, I have never in all my life sat in such a dirty aircraft. It was a 10am flight & im dry reaching now just thinking about it. Revolting 🤢🤮🤢 While ever my backside is pointing to the ground I will NEVER fly Qantas again!

Problem with Qantas is you never know what you are going to get. When we got left stranded in Japan and couldn't get through to them we had to buy new tickets to get home. Then a 6 month fight to get our funds back. Then had to fly PER to BNE return. Flew BC which I paid for. Flight over no IFE for a 5 hour flight. Coming back there was. Both on 737. Can we please have A330 to the East Coast with proper BC. The price is more than we pay to fly return Singapore to Europe return on Emirates. It's a joke. Then PER to Singapore. BC. IFE didnt work. Coming back the food in BC was absoulte slop and they took 3 hours to do the dinner service. We had just gotten off Emirates from Europe in BC. The difference was unbelievable. Luckily I don't fly east often. International we have now given up on Qantas. The staff are great. But the rest of it is sadly lacking. Never thought i would say that of Qantas.

From the premium to be sought to avoid if at all possible in my booking habits. Taking all my frequent flyers during COVID definitely didn't help... Qantas has been declining for a long time but the last bloke really took it to the basement...

Genuinely originally I would have liked to fly Qantas to Europe but after flying China Eastern I would even prefer to fly China Eastern to Europe plus it’s about 50% cheaper plus I found the service level to be great!

They need to overhaul their FF program. I was gold for ten years and then one year I didnt make the required credits and I'm back to silver. It seems that it doesnt cost anything for Qantas to keep people on a colour once they have achieved it so why not make it for life.

Did flight from SYD to LAX on A380 economy. Excellent. Now the not so excellent. Brisbane Business Lounge... my son went to print out something.. sorry no toner. Duh, don't they have another one? Sydney lounge.. pathetic is a good way to describe it. Lots of stuff broken and to top if off... cold showers. Seriously? AA lounge pre- flight from LAX to LAS was surprisingly great. Good food choices and HOT showers. LAX to BNE return flight last week on A330-200 was a shocker. The seat seemed to have no padding and felt like sitting on the seat frame. Above my pain threshold to get any sleep. Very disappointing to say the least. I have done 100's of flights most in economy but this took the cake. Need I say more.

I will never ever fly qantas again, due to their rude/bogan staff. When booking domestic tickets ill always chose virgin. Virgins crews service is obviously still lightyears behind etiquette of asian carriers, but unfortunately its as good as it gets in Australia.

Joyce damaged the company, the board giving him such ridiculous salaries, bonuses and payout further trashed their reputation, sickening as the rot at the top remains, may well become another Ansett thanks to Joyce's legacy.

I will NEVER use Qantas for international travel again. Extremely unreliable with sub-standard service. They should try to match an airline such as Singapore airlines, considering they charge around the same price. It's 'sir' and 'madam', not mate.

Qantas should have ordered A350-900 which is better than 787 dreamliner. And which A350 could have done both work for short and long haul. 🎉

Qantas ordered their initial batch of 787s before the current A350 design was even put to paper… It wasn’t an option at the time.

you touched on some interesting points, but, certainly domestically, they have no competitors. Virgin Blue (Yes I know they they added the word Australia to their brand) Simply fail in comparison. Look at their Lounges across the country. What we need is a proper premium carrier to compete (I've always thought Singapore would be a good one). One World and Star Alliance (Think what we had when Ansett were still around). Virgin Blue (cough Australia) and Jetstar the budget crap and Singapore and Qantas the Premium airlines flying domestically and internationally. Hey Virgin Blue - welcome to the Maccas Lounge in Cairns :D

From where I'm sitting, Qantas are setting themselves up well for the future, with some really savvy re-equipment choices from both major manufacturers. This is totally necessary and the future looks bright for them...

QuestionL SYD-LHR great circle flies over Russia. With Russia closed for foreseable future, will the 350 ULR have enough spare fuel to take longer route around Russia? Curious to see if they will do New York first or Rome which was mentioned as a possible Sunrise destination. Qantas in the last decade has tried to not be an airline. It had hoped to be bought, then outsource its work and focus more on accouting tan running an airline in a way that attracts customers. Densifying aircraft pleases accountants but repels customers because coach has become so miserable that only those who can afford premium economy or business class can enjoy flying. If you don't enjoy flying you avoid it unless absolutely necessary. Right now, Cathay Pacific has an advantage and could probably beat Qantas to London with stop in Hong Kong which is actually fairly close to great circle. Being a Chinese carrier, it still has ability to fly over Russia and can do great circle to London.

Second rate airline not in the top 20 airlines in the world service just like Jetstar Bloody dreadful as for the food is discusting and not to mention the SCAB crew they hire from overseas..you don't see SCAB crew on the beautiful Singapore Airlines

Qantas has to somehow accelerate the fleet renewal program as that is the main legitimate gripe that the Australian public has. Pay no attention to that noisy minority that likes to bag Qantas staff. The cabin crew are great, the ground staff are doing a good job, the pilots are the very best in the world and Qantas is undeniably the safest airline in the world.

Especially since the CEO was just replaced with the CFO. You don't get to be a CFO without going along with CEO and being a bit of a yes man. And I don't think any accountant has ever improved service or customer service, their whole job is to reduce costs and maximise profits
