Note: at the time of releasing this video, Geometry Nodes are still under rapid developement and are not even close to being finished yet. So depending on when you watch this video some of the content might be outdated. But if you're watching this in the beginning of 2021 this video is up to date :) Hope you enjoy! Edit: In blender 3.0 and above the whole Geometry Nodes system has been refactored to use the new Fields system, so this tutorial is unfortunately a bit outdated now. I will make new tutorials, though :) Also, here's the final node setup in a single image: pasteboard.co/JMMhj8a.jpg
This is a really nice breakdown. It's giving me hope because I can see how geometry nodes is taking those things that were possible in AN but required a dizzying array of nodes and making it more accessible to less advanced users.
Your brief yet deeply insightful philosophical banter reminds me of the stoic coffee podcast. I think you would really enjoy it. Keep on creating!! Love the music, nodes, and positivity!
In a search for greater clarity on Geo Nodes, I have just come across your channel and find myself completely bowled over by what you have to offer. I took up Blender so that I can put visual content to my music. So your music-making inspires me to continue towards that goal. Very into classical & jazz too - loved the Bach in the last video! But most of all, your philosophical thoughts at the end are very moving for their profundity. The late Ram Dass was a guru for me and your thoughts on anger remind me of what he once said: 'I go on a lot of peace marches, but find that the people there are so angry - and I would like to say to them "if you could be peaceful inside, then there would be peace outside!"' Keep up the good work - you are a true inspiration!
Thank you so much, Harry! I'm honored to have been an inspiration :) Yeah, Bach is the ultimate foundation of my and many others' musical thinking. Bach and jazz go together very well! I hadn't actually heard of Ram Dass, seems like he was an interesting teacher. If you can suggest your favorite book of his, I'd be happy to add it to my growing list of things to read :)
Awesome man. 🤩🤩. Curtis Holt channel was talking about your and Sharing your RU-vid link, he was right you make awesome Blender tutorials. I’m subscribing to see more awesome tutorials man.
Many thanks for a great tut. A complicated subject made really clear. And also many thanks for your comments on the culture of angry posts. It's so easy to vent one's frustration but it quickly destroys social medias capability for rational, constructive or intelligent communication.
Immediately subscribed and hit the bell too-a first for me. The deadpan description on decreasing appetite for execution as spectacle had me 4D LOLing. This video should be figure 1 for the “polymath” entry in any given pedia.
awesome ! the intro with the guitar !!! brilliant ! instant follow ! ;)) bravo ! was looking for a tech tuto about flow fields and got surprise by the awesome good vibes ! cheers !
Wow. I love blender. I love music ( i play piano since my 6years old) ... no better tutorials for me then this ones! Keep gooing. Eevee lightning tutorial would be cool. Why not :) Regards
Like a lot this mixture you do about technical matters... and heart deep feelings matters... It's always good to have some reflexions on your day to day basis.!!!. Thank you!!!
You previous video was the first video that made me understand the way of how to think about the geometry nodes thanks alot. Loving this one keep up the great work.
I just discovered your channel and..wow ! Your content is awesome, keep the passion you're doing great I'm going to binge your whole channel now haha so glad to have you in my recommandations
I think there is one dude working for autodesk that gives every Blender video a thumbs down. Same with our tutorials. I have no idea how to not like this. Well done.
Just did it! Thanks a lot. I have some difficulties during the Node Grope manipulations... broken head I would say 😅😅. Well I will share my work today at my YT page, so you can check effect from your lesson 💪🏻 thanks again for such relax tutorials!!!
Those outros are hidden gems in your tuts. I was surprised you'd be talking about GME, unexpected. I invest too and that level of market manipulation was really upsetting, especially seeing the value of my portfolio dipping badly during that event. But, as you said, controlling emotions is crucial and investing money on stock market make you understand that concept the hard way. Well explained. Once again I applaud your taste on content creation. Delightful 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🙏🏻
I don't have the attribute sample texture node However, if come so far and it's fabulous! That's for showing it to me! Edit: Updated blender, found it, and completed the video. Thanks a lot for this. I wish I could share my result wiht you!
Namaste You are explaining things very nicely. But I must say that you are such a great artist too, playing piano, guitar and viola (If I'm right) wonderfully. Would like to see some performance too. Thank you.
Thank you sp much! That's a cello, by the way :) Glad to hear that you're interested in the music side of things also, because I do eventually want to start making more music-related videos, too!
Ana other fantastic tutorial. I think geometry nodes require some complex thinking but like anything, this can be achieved with practice. Great series. Keep up the good work.
@@SketchesForHumanity I’m going to download the alpha build and have a go. Someone released this video a few hours ago. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_bxsKNW8_7c.html
Really good tutorial. Thanks for sharing. I like your overall "speed". Some tutorials go way too fast, and get too complicated for beginners. At 14:32 would be really good for hedgehog back spikes
Thanks for the feedback! It's always difficult to find the right balance between too fast and too slow, because I know that the audience's skill level of course varies a lot. So it's good to know that you felt like this video has a reasonable pace :)
@@SketchesForHumanity - There's a lot of excellent blender trainers out there, for sure. But most are flat out too quick - maybe some are targeting more advanced users or something. You definitely find the right balance to be able to absorb the material.
Hi I can see a different teaching pattern of you from others. You explain each node and what will happen we do it wrong. Others will just put whatever they what and close the video but you were different. Keep posting. Did you have any online courses? Please let me know
Love this stuff and really looking forward to where these nodes go in the future. I downloaded 2.92.0 beta today 12.02.2021 and at about 17:18 you add an attribute sample texture which I'd love to try but it does not appear in my drop down under the attributes section as yours does .......can it be found somewhere else?
Notes here... the geometry nodes doesn't work anymore in the way this video fully explains, because of what he pointed in his note. Join geometry does not work like 7 months ago, and it only provides one node, also if you are working with a geometry that is a modeling piece you've done, the torus won't distribute along the surface of the object...You need to find another way to tell the blender that the point distribution will do it along its normals.
Hello Sir, this is just awesome - and after i rebuild it i was ask my self how to make this effect just with texure. like from rock to gras transition wih this animation empty technic ? can you help on this or maybe make a tutorial, this is kind a need for every artist. and with this new blender i think its really quick & easy making it. but i have no clue how to start, would be EPIC if you can show the audience. thank you Mate ! really hope you got all you need with this support from us. we are you !
Thanks for the comment, Lino! It's great that you already have ideas about the direction you want to take your life towards, and I'm honored to have been an inspiration! Just keep being positive, and aware of your life's trajectory, and you'll find that everything tends to work out like it's supposed to
would it be possible to use this technique to limit say .. grass particles for example to the visible area of the active camera? great tutorial, thanks.
Yeah, at least with the upcoming proximity node it should be possible. Though they didn't seem to be including mesh volume as a calculation method for that node, which is a shame, but it can be worked around..
Obviously the Swedish winters are too long ! The people there have nothing else to do than think , tinker around with Blender and play musical instruments! LOL
Help Please When I use the point Instance, my torus appears to be way bigger in Suzanne. I've been following everything correctly, but I don't know why my tours are big, although I scaled them before using the Instance node.
There will be a drop down menu in the near future, for the built-in attributes. After that you only need to type in any custom attributes you want to initialize.
I see many videos about Geometry Node since 2 months ago. It almost use sphere as a falloff shape. Is there any other options ? I know C4d has many options (Linear, Box, etc ). Thank you.
You can make linear falloff controllers with some vector math, and you can also use the proximity node to make any custom mesh shapes to act as proximity controllers. But the atrribute proximity node doesn't support mesh volume calculations yet, so in some cases you need to "fill in" the geometry of the controller with some extra faces.. Once we get volume support for proximity, things get a lot more simpler for custom shape falloffs.
Do you happen to know if Geometry Nodes can be used with previously animated objects (standard animation used as source object). Thinking of something like a bunch of random ants or roaches walking around on the ground.
At least with a quick test it seems like the basic loc/rot/scale animations are not recognised in GeoNodes instances. But armature animations do seem to carry over with the mesh data, so that's very useful! edit: animating shape keys works also :)
HELP ME PLEASE!!! Why are my toruses huge and not on the surface of Suzanne's head, but next to her? I repeated the tutorial step by step and double-checked each step. Please help fix this problem!
@@SketchesForHumanity Thanks for the answer, I figured it out. The problem was in the node Attribute Fill. I made a smaller scale than yours and it worked :)
thank you very much for the tutorial, so non overlapping instances are possible with geo nodes, which is very useful. as far as i can see the attributes are everything for geo nodes, we have scale, rotation, location, distance and UVMap as attributes, what kind of any other values could be considered as attributes? one more question, have you ever tried any physics with geo nodes? thanks in advance
Yeah, attributes seem to be the foundation of GeoNodes. The "distance" in this video is a custom vector attribute. Position, scale, rotation, UV's and id are native ones that I know of. You can also make custom boolean attributes. There's also gonna be an attribute type for colors, and probably other mesh data like edges, faces, shape keys, face maps etc. The sky is the limit, really :) We'll have to see which ones the developers will go for first. And no, haven't tried physics with GeoNodes yet. It probably has limited use with physics right now, but in the future, who knows!
@@SketchesForHumanity ahhh damn ... ok . thanks for the point instance trick. im a houdini/c4d user, but for same things i go with blender. this time i have to scatter some trhings and i have some problem of art direct things ! thanks again
