In this video I finish processing the anode slimes produced by my electrolytic copper refining cell after running for 25 days and completely consuming one set of dirty copper anodes. Time to figure out how much precious metals were deposited in the slimes. Please visit www.mdpub.com/UrbanGoldMining/... for more information.

Use the filter bags and instead of copper bars, turn your copper into copper shot. The filter bag will save you a head ache messing with the liquids every day and keeping it running smoothly.

That’s really cool to get some gold out of a waste material. I wonder if cupelling the slimes with some lead mixed in as a carrier metal be better to get the precious metals condensed and the copper and tin soaked into your cupell first. Save some nitric. Have fun and good day.

You might want to check out successful engineers youtube videos on “gold recovery via copper electrolysis”. It is a 2 part, but after the first part there is a separate brief update before part 2 that isn’t officially in his series. He was recovering gold from a bunch of gold plated pins he cast into anodes. He sand cast copper sheets for his cell anodes, he shows his calculation for the optimal current desired per cm^2 of anode. He uses sheet stainless for cathode. Also you might want to incinerate your slimes before you treat with acid.

Mike, I may be wrong (often am!) but in my experience, I have found that high heat, even a slow boil, aids the dissolution process.

You got my subscription I appreciate your character and personality I'm about to do this Sreetips says those mixed pin bars are very low gold content Might work for passive electrolysis but he spent a lot of reagents for not much trying to do it with nitric boils and so on

I’m definitely interested in seeing your updated stock pot set up. This process was interesting but seems like you used way too much chemicals and time to get .15g of gold. One thing I do wonder, if there was platinum and/or palladium in those slimes you left behind. Great videos. I have a crap ton of e-waste I am planning on processing so these videos have been very informative and helpful.

I think you should take the little filter from the pour over and put it to a little aqua regia and test I think you will be surprised

Thanks for the great video s ... Enjoy the learning process ... As a procrastinator ... i wonder if it would have been better to boil in HCL (a few times) 1st ... then move to Nitric boils 2nd ... before going AR.. I will bet you will find a bit of gold in the "temp waist" bucket after fine powder drops out of the water column ... Can't wait for the Nitric acid recovery video ... I am very interested in seeing anything on nitric acid ... please don't skip the clean up processes or what "left-overs" might be used for Thanks again

Too much Metabisulphite caused the other metals in solution to sulph-oxidize? You added four tablespoons to 2 liters of solution. Supposed to add metabisulphite according to an overestimate of the amount of gold expected, on a 1:1 Molar coefficient

If you are blowing holes in a single filter in the Buchner funnel, then your vacuum level is too high. Reduce the strength of the vacuum to the proper level and that problem won't occur. The filter should just dimple slightly into the funnel holes. Of course, the double filter improves the filtering efficiency. But if the bottom filter remains clear of solids, then it is just a waste of filters. Keep up the experimenting and learning. Given the low gold levels in most of your materials, the more efficient you can make the processes the better. Sometimes the journey is more interesting and profitable than the end results.

Really cool content! I'm in the process of using hammer mills and processing circuit boards from E-waste. Electrorefining the copper out and then dealing with slimes. How would you deal with silver in the mix if you wanted to recover Copper, Silver and Gold.

Using an RP4 shaker table to separate the metals from the fiberglass.

Crushing the slag would have increase its surface area allowing you to disolve as much metals out of it as possible.

You can get all the DC current you will ever need with a stick welding machine 😏 Might be dangerous with that high of amperage so please be careful.

hi i have a problem i put 200ml of water then 200ml of hcl then a 20 or 30 ml of nitric acid for pins and gold plated computers. the reaction start and after to days the color change to green and i can see a lots of gold, but then the color change to green blue and there is milky white color, what is the milky white color and how can i get it out from the reaction..... thank you

Looking forward to the testing of melted pins off eBay. Probably 12 years ago or more (before I knew better) I bought some bars made from melted pins on eBay. One is around 8 pounds, and the other I think was around 3 or 4 pounds. This looks like the only way economical enough to process them?
@StillFunBrewing
@StillFunBrewing 2 года назад
I believe that’s the best way to process melted pin bars. Since the gold percent is so low. It takes liters of nitric to go through bars made like that. Electrowin 95% of the copper away and then acid treat the rest.
@royalrefiningllc
@royalrefiningllc 2 года назад
You might get about a gram from the 12lbs. Those are made with pins from new material that is not plated with gold it is ionized on so its so little. Good luck, post ur results or maybe make a video
@StillFunBrewing

@@royalrefiningllc Sreetips did a video where he bought some eBay “gold” basically melted pins. Doing an acid extraction showed that there was so little gold that he could not detect it and concluded there was negligible gold from the lots he purchased. So who knows.

Don't waste your time and money on ebay ingot from computer !! You probably end up with no gold/ precious metal at all. Nice video keep having fun doing your experiment.

Excellent suggestion! Hey Mike - I agree with this comment - don't bother with the 'pin' ingots! Complete waste of $ & time.

Would it have been worthwhile to check with some pH paper to see if the nitric acid was just exhausted before you assumed there was no base metal left in there?

Only 14 minutes into the vid. I've seen many many precious metal refining vids. This one is especially cool because everybody assumes the percipitate in their waste bucket is just Copper and nobody takes the effort to find out what's in there, 1st time I see an experiment like this and I have a good suspicion there might be something. From my expierience watching refining vids: If there is a metal in suspension it's often Platinum.. dunnow where that came from but that's what I've seen. And just 1 safety thing: Are you aware you sometimes touch your face and glasses when wearing gloves?
@johannesdesloper8434
@johannesdesloper8434 2 года назад
Platinum in suspension is black.
@johannesdesloper8434
@johannesdesloper8434 2 года назад
Pity, I would have expected a larger yield. Not worth the effort in my opinion. Thanks for sharing this experiment. Copper is on the rise and I think it will be worth the effort to make ingots. I've seen that some people even buy Copper buillion as an investment and easy pay double the price of Copper. Ow just hear it, Sreetips on youtube already did a video on refining molten computerpins. Bad yield. Probably a Sulfuric acid stripping sell is best for pins but it's just a nasty acid. I sure had fun!
