I sometimes tell people that Dreamcatcher is the Kpop version of Linkin Park, so I agree with that comment. They are considered the face of rock in Kpop, but this is one of their least rock oriented title tracks. To get a sense of their rock sound, perhaps check out Vision next. And certainly their older songs in the Nightmare series.
This is not exactly the easiest entry point to Dreamcatcher as this video is crazy complex and we are still deciphering all the layers. What is certain is that this M/V is part of a duology and is a huge middlefinger to the music industry in general and the superficial beauty where everything is all about the looks, everything staged and edited. If you look carefully, it has a very dark overtone. The soundscape and parts of the M/V mimic generic girl crush concept sounds (what you do not really hear in the other 70+ songs DreamCatcher has) and redraw parts of other M/Vs. The rap section is told from the perspective of an idol how many of them act after getting some fame. Not to mention that Dreamcatcher members here are the villains who lure Shasha (the protagonist of the video) into some kind of a VR experience looking for the crown (aka fame, success etc) and at the end falls a victim of it. JiU even refers herself as Nephthys who is actually the goddess of death, decay, and darkness, mother of Anubis It was all put together masterfully so at first glance it feels they just celebrate themselves - which is really super far from their actual mentality - but the tone used is very very sarcastic, also there are plenty of cut in frames showing the reality. Anyway welcome to the world of DreamCatcher but I suggest that you look for some of their more authentic sounds as this one was a bit distorted towards generic K-Pop for the sake of storytelling. They have still nailed it, but it takes some reruns to fully appreciate the song for some of the old Dreamcatcher fans. For me personally it was a bit weird at first but after figuring out what the hell was going on when this was created, I absolutely LOVE it. Also the choreography for this is really good and highly recommended to watch. Some of the best entry point would be the Dystopia trilogy (scream - boca - odd eye) or Deja Vu.

This is a really exciting time to get into Dreamcatcher! This title track and whole album are so ambitious and experimental for them, and they totally nailed it! The whole theme of the song is them playing villains, portraying “confidence to the point of narcissism” and showing how while self-love is important and good, and you can definitely use this song as a confidence-booster, when confidence is only tied to material things and validation from social media, it can become toxic. And what’s equally toxic is taking the highly edited and artificial version of idols’ lives that we see as truth. Regarding the end of the MV, OOTD is the first of a two-part story about the villainous, parallel world version of the group who have been sacrificing their followers in order to obtain “the crown.” The last victim, Shasha, was an employee of their company and is the one you see dying at the end. Now that they’ve completed the sacrifices and can obtain the crown, we’ll see what happens in the next comeback. After all, there are seven of them, and only one crown.. Definitely check out more of their discography! They’re one of the most unique and diverse groups out there, and there’s something to appeal to everyone. For a better example of their core rock sound, I’d recommend Good Night, Endless Night, Demian, Tension, or Rising.
Odd Eye, Deja Vu, Bonvoyage, Red Sun, Rising, BECause...ah there's a lot of good songs! Glad you reacted to them. They can dance well and usually sing lives and all the girls are talented in their own rights.
You actually picked a bit of an odd time to discover Dreamcatcher. OOTD is a little closer to a mainstream K-pop sound than their title tracks normally are, although that's deliberate. The track and MV are a satire of narcissistic social media culture, hence them breaking the 4th wall repeatedly in the video. Definitely do yourselves a favor and check out the rest of their discography, it's amazing and more clearly rock-infused than you've seen so far. I recommend either going in chronological order from the start (Chase Me) or starting with the Dystopia trilogy (Scream, Boca, Odd Eye).

They aren’t straight up rock! They are a Kpop group, but they are heavily influenced by various rock/metal genres in their title tracks (and they do all sorts of genres in their B sides). .. they are referred to as the “face of rock in Kpop”. They definitely have evolved over the years and OOTD is definitely a more out there concept for them. This is definitely still rock influenced (Nine Inch Nails/Muse -ish?). They are very experienced and they often sing live. Their live vocals are absolutely INSANE and their stage presence is crazy, they are basically rock stars on stage.

Thank you for finally decide to check Dreamcatcher. True, songs by DC is kinda like the female version of Linkin Park in kpop; there's rock as the base, mix in some EDM, a pinch of spicy rap, add a spoonfull of that kpop twist, and generous amount of unique & beautiful vocals. Sadly, Dreamcatcher is kinda "ignored" by korean mainstream media. Maybe that's why you never heard of them even though they've been around since January 13th, 2017. That was a Friday the 13th by the way, a perfect date to introduce the world to a girlgroup with dark concept (each member was representing a "Nightmare"), creepy lyrics, MV inspired by The Shining movie, and hard rock music with shredding guitar riffs...a combination that never existed before in kpop. Within the kpop music entertainment industry, they are quite well known and respected, and some famous artists mentioned they love Dreamcatcher as well. Thankfully, their unique concept brought them huge international success, and they had US tour in the last 3 years, in a row. OOTD is one of my least favorite songs by Dreamcatcher, but it kinda grows on me. Like their other songs, the lyrics contains messages and can be interpreted differently. I'm sure other commenters already write their full analysis on this :D If you like to hear more Dreamcatcher, I'd suggest to start with Bon Voyage (or Maison - Vision - Bon Voyage), then go through the Dystopia trilogy (Scream - Boca - Odd Eye), then going back to their debut song Chase Me to start the Nightmare arc.
I hope you guys can react to their B-sides from this album 'Versus Villains' aka 'VillainS'. The title is 'Rising', 'Shatter' and 'We Are Young'. This 3 tracks will show you how versatile they are.
Welcome to the Dreamworld! Dreamcatcher are very unique. They are the dark angels of Kpop and the only girl group who consistently incorporate Rock and Metal in their title tracks, fusing that with Kpop into something that basically is a new genre. They also are drenched in horror and social criticism, which again is special. Plus, they are massively talented, all of them. And while the girls look like they could rip out your spine when they are on stage, off stage they are adorable crackheads. 😉 At first glance you could think this is about them being proud and happy with themselves, about confidence. I don't think that is it though. I have no idea if my theory is correct, but the fact that the album is called VersuS VillainS makes me think it is not this simple. So I believe this song is meant as a criticism of narcissism, vanity, materialism and also (maybe) the fast fashion industry. "OOTD" stands for "Outfit of the Day" after all, maybe useless instagram influencers posting videos of their outfit of the day, which also promotes fast fashion. The fact that fashion is moving ever faster is the most destructive industry to the planet apart from the fossil fuel industry. The Aral lake has all but disappeared because of the cotton industry for example. It would fit to the Villain image, and you can see in the MV that they are acting. It is shown in the scene where Yoohyeon and Handong are fighting, but then the camera is off and Handong helps Yoohyeon up. The main reason why I don't think it is about confidence or their own success is the line "Driving on the highway, drunken everyday, do you feel like a monster?" and the album title. That just doesn't fit. And there was the ymenehcra account posting about touching a crown is dangerous and other cryptic messages before the comeback. It could also be a big and well-hidden F*U to the Kpop industry, like the Nightmare arc probably was. The narcissism and materialism is definitely criticized here, and Dreamcatcher have been criticized a lot themselves because of their rock/metal concept, while other groups have been celebrated for using a guitar riff once in a song. And Handong standing in front of the camera with bruises all over her legs seems to be a comment on the merciless industry as well. The music is highly interesting as well. There still is rock there, but dialed back. The song structure is not what you'd expect at all, for me it is punk rock meets K-Pop. Not their usual spiel, but a very good progression. It takes a couple of listens to really appreciate it.

If this is your ever 1st time to them- this is not their usual sound AT ALL. they're in progressing of experiment some new sounds here. it's a norm for us inSomnia(Dreamcatcher's fandom name) that after the title tracks are released we would love to capture every moment in the MV try interpret their hidden msg. for this one, it's pretty complicated. it might sounds like a song of confidence girls loving and celebrate for themselves but nah, it's all about how nowadays influencers' world try to achieve their goal by gaining fames and followers by any means no matter what methods they're using. for example, some influencers RENT some luxury cars, clothes, brand-named stuff just for show on IG as the scenes with the car and motorbike in the beginning of the mv. try editing everything they're gonna post (as you can see all around this mv they're editing everything and in the beginning of the song the red hair girl *siyeon* sings in a tune-edited way(i don't know what they call that sound) cuz in fact, she is the main vocalist and her voice doesn't even have to be tune to sounds good / faking a scene onstage (like they're actually on a good term but do the drama at each other just for show in a scene of 2 girls using each other and one fell down and then they show a behind of that scene) etc etc. but leave the solving things out if you're enjoy their music, that's good enough. glad you're enjoy and hope to see you around with their journey. :)

This new comeback is actually divisive among fans because it's a bit different. This fits in a bit more with a electronic girl crush sound. The typical Dreamcatcher fan wants high notes and soaring jrock anime guitars lol. They have a rock + horror concept, each title track has elements of one or both. They mix genres a lot and have intense storylines. Standalone songs to react to: BEcause (stalker love concept), Deja Vu (fan favourite, bittersweet power ballad) First songs to react to: Scream - beginning of the Dystopia trilogy, which is about online harassment. Song is kind of trance but you can headbang to it. M/V and choreography is inspired by witch hunts because of the parallels with online harassment. Arguably their most popular trilogy. Most popular song in the series is the 2nd one, BOCA. Maison - beginning of the Apocalypse trilogy, which is about the climate apocalypse. M/V is like Mad Max and a Marvel Movie combined.
