As a producer, Irwin Winkler has shown "The Right Stuff," made a star of Sylvester Stallone with "Rocky," and had Martin Scorsese's back in the production of two undisputed classics: "Raging Bull" and "Goodfellas." Now, nearly 30 years after "Goodfellas," Winkler, Scorsese, and Robert De Niro are reuniting for "The Irishman," a film about Jimmy Hoffa, which also stars Al Pacino and Joe Pesci. Ben Mankiewicz, the host of Turner Classic Movies, talks with the 88-year-old Winkler about his gangbusters Hollywood career.

Madonna? Seriously? Hope they told the studio to get bent! The casting for Goodfellas was as close to perfect as you can get.

I can't see Tom Cruise in the Henry Hill role at all. Of course he was very popular at the time. But he is the last person that I could see being that badass/tough

I don't know if it's still the case, but Tom Cruise used to get offered virtually everything first. At one point he was offered Edward Scissorhands.

I would like to see Stallone in a Scorsese film. And Before retiring or passing away, Scorsese needs to make a Gotti biopic.

Bonus points for being one of the few people to pronounce Scorsese's name right. It's Scor-sez-ee, though most people think it's Scor-say-zee. In the movie "Singles," a character pronounces it as "Scor-seez."

Keep in mind that Sylvester Stallone sold Rocky to Irving Winkler and he even let Stallone do the Rocky role. He can give him a certain percentage to Stallone but that depends if he wants to. But Stallone insulting him won't help though.

he produced uncle joe shannon. horrible acting. the only good thing was the music, played by the real greatest trumpet player in the world, the late great Maynard Ferguson. Maynard recorded " Gonna Fly Now " the theme from Rocky, which by the way, was a bigger hit in Italy than the original movie theme, also which was written by an Italian! HA!
