an interesting thing about this song too is that the korean and english versions are each quite different. while they each aim at bringing a similar message across the korean version is very realistic and talks about being yourself and working hard to achieve your dreams. the english version is the "dream version" where they talk about finally making it to the top and being rich, as this is something everyone dreams about at one point in their lives.

The THING about this album for NCT 127 is the English Ver. in general has been theorized by other Nctzens as the "Dream" or "Irregular Version" of the album, and some of the members did explain that the album is told as a story if you go through it in order. Nct has played the dream concept for a lot of their songs and if you see the Nctmentary it basically uses the "Dream Terminology" as the name for the songs. For Nct 127's upcoming album they used the same Dream concept, but used the words 'Regular' and 'Irregular' to represent what is the dream and what is the reality. The 'Regular' song is actually the Korean ver. because it represents a realistic view and aspiration to work for your dream and work hard to get money, the 'Irregular' song would be the English version of Regular because it's a Dreamlike reflection of wanting to show off your loads of money and bragging about it, which you can see is reflected in the movielike experience from the music video. A lot of the Korean fans translated the Korean Ver. lyrics and said that the lyrics meant something a bit different and weren't as "braggy" which is also reflected in the music video since the cinematography isn't as dramatic. This is something I am LOVING about this album, the parallels between the Korean and English ver. of the song Regular, and the story they are trying to tell with the album! It's really evident that a lot of work and thought went into making this album so I hope all the Nctzens support the album and our bois! AH woops sorry for the rant heh It's very eye opening to have the translation by Korean fans and seeing all the cool theories about the album! Stan Nct!! Stan talent!!!

i feel like most people think the English Ver is more lit bc the English Ver is supposed to be in their Dreams, them imagining being crazy rich and the lyrics definitely reflect that. Meanwhile the Korean Ver represents Reality as the lyrics talk about being hardworking etc and even the MV is a little less crazy, more toned down. NCT's Dreams & Reality theme never fails to amaze me! It's so clever.

I see a lot of people having problems with the lyrics but honestly most of the songs that blow up in the US don’t have lyrics much better. Maybe the only difference is they’re much more comfortable saying it. But like come on did anyone expect them to roll through with Kendrick Lamar lyricism. Nothing they’ve said on this song is worse then Gucci gang Gucci gang Gucci gang or any of the 300 other western songs that take over. I think the boys did great. I hear the Korean versions lyrics are a bit deeper, and that makes sense. So great reaction! I really enjoy that you give props where props are due.

I think people forget that NCTs concept is completely about spreading worldwide one step at a time. It's neo culture, and their western debut is part of that and should come as no surprise! I wouldn't be surprised if they debuted a USA unit one day, that's just the ethic and concept behind NCT

the beautiful part of the lyrics here is that the korean version is the total opposite, and it was beautifully made cause the two songs are put in opposite positions even in the album tracklist. regular-irregular, they made it a concept, described the regular in korean and the dream, irregular life in english. beautiful, beautifully thought, stunning visuals, this is a bomb.

I know you don’t really react to teasers but NCT teaser videos ‘regular dream and irregular office’ have really pretty lighting and filming so it’d be interesting to see your take on it. :)

Finally someone who understand the whole things spoke. Some people just came to hate about things but can not appreciate. It's different when you actually know aspects or just biased. I hope lot of people will find NCT's cool & American will like them. The concept of the MV was also well thought. The English version lyric was more flashy, braggy, about getting rich & money. But Korean version was the opposite, it was much more than material achievements, it was about DREAMS, & being their authentic selves. In English version they really value the diamonds & things, while in Korean version they said they shine more than the diamond itself. They said they not satisfied with money they have in Eng version on regular, but they're irregular in Korean version, their goal wasn't money but more like the process of it. But actually the Korean was Regular (reality) & English was irregular (in their dream) Its amazing how they can mixed & switch all of the concept. I really blown away with all of this, it's really well thought.

People need to understand that what identifies as KPOP does not only encompass the Korean language. Many music producers who have worked on songs- such as Bad Boy by Red Velvet- have said that Korean songs (even if sung in English) would not do well in the American market. Reason why being that Korean pop (and music in general) is FAR more musically structured than American music; Because it’s detailed, it’s more intricate and unique sounding. It’s probably also one of the main reasons why KPOP does well internationally, not just in the US. So, I’m glad you brought that up! There are many factors that make KPOP “KOREAN pop”, and it’s not just the language...it’s more than that. :’)

I never comment on things, but I just have to say that I adored this music video. The dark room where two of the boys are dancing reminds me of one of Yayoi Kusama’s work. And the neon/dark environment goes so well with the song. I genuinely feel like a badass every time I listen to it.

Your analysis is the best seriously.. you make us see the reason behind things.. truly NCT is not shying away from their korean self..they are proud of it... and their American debut has been planned even before their debut..NCT was made to be a global group..its just fortunate and coincidental that one of their seniors are ruling there..so they can always walk in their path and truly SM is a company that needs profit and through marketing this is the best time for any grouo to debut in America marketing wise..it will never not be a fact that most new kpop fanbase was created through BTS but it doesn't have to end with them.. we can all support anyone debuting. PD, this English Version is actually a dream, the lyrics, the darkness, are actually based on "non-reality" if i may describe it, they made a Korean version that is based on reality concept as Johnny of nct put it, and it has lyrics that is somehow opposite to what the english version says, and the video is also somehow different

story time, I knew that NCT was making an american debut because my Dad (bless his soul) told me "I saw one of your korean bands on Jimmy Kimmel ... STC 500?? Or something?" I was like ... "NCT 127?" honestly I was impressed that he got close enough I could guess. I'm not a huge fan of NCT's sound and I dont think this song will be one of my faves BUT i'm super proud of them and support their efforts.
