I don't really know what the fish eye was for but it may have been hinting to someone watching him? As in actual eyes. The song is doing what it was intending to do to me so.... yeah. The video is a bit annoying to me because I mainly wanted it to support the dance and it kind of missed the mark.
The red was put there to represent bloood. At the choreo there is a part where he kind of bites his wrist, and right before the break down he leans on his back up dancers in a coffin position. So overall there's a vampire theme in the background, not much explored but there is. That's why there isn't a water scene.
All the whole fish eye scenes made it feel like I was.. sort of.. peeping on Taemin when he was alone. x) I can see how the fish eye shots would people off. For me it made it feel somehow... more intimate. xD But that's my opinion. Loved the reaction overall. I had the same reaction "really?" when Taemin was on the floor dancing...
My impression was also that by using the fish-eye that we were "seeing things that we weren't meant to see." Therefore giving that "naughty" quality in the video that is of course present within the song with "thirsty" being in a more sexual context. I think that the fish-eye is just supposed to invoke some kind of old security camera where you might see that distorted view, but in contrast to the cctv grainy film that is in the beginning and end of "Move."
i think this whole performance video is sort of like a homage to early 2000s pop music videos, the song sounds like it came out of that era, hence the fish eye shots.
A comment on the fisheye; I think there is an animalistic theme that goes with this video and song. Taemin being thirsty is not even an innate human thirst but an animals thirst or even a vampires thirst for blood (which adds to the sexy appeal) It’s very dark in fact and I think the fisheye symbolizes a monster or an animals’ perspective peering and lingering, watching taemin. Kinda spooky. Just my thought! Love the video, thank you pd!
Damn that's really interesting, I interpreted it as the viewers were like secretly checking taemin out or like watching him perform on a high platform so you have to lift up your head to be able to see it fully.
Hi, the song is about him as a vampire. You can tell in the moves when "bite" his own hand or in the break when cross his arms. The dancers are "zombies", you can tell when they bite him in the end, the moves became zombie-like in the coreo. Maybe this is the reason behind the fish eye. (sorry for my broken english, I hope you understand )
I'm pretty sure this MV was put together really quickly.... I think they filmed it on the Sunday before they released it (on Friday) bc on Monday he said something to fans like 'I filmed something extra for u guys last night it should be out this week'... I don't know how long they usually take for these things but to me that doesn't seem like long. Anyway definitely listen to the album.... it's a really good album!! And have you seen his japanese releases? They will definitely make you appreciate his dancing even more!!!
I liked the fisheye in the red smaller room, bc it felt very voyeuristic. I think when it was coupled with the smaller room it made it more sensual. But only in that set the other sets I didn't get that feel as much and it felt off.
For the fish eye, I thought it suggested the viewer as looking at Taemin through a peephole, or maybe inward through a keyhole. But the rest of the MV didn't support that interpretation much, so... Nice reaction anyway, and nice comments on the color balance. I don't have the professional eye for that sort of things so it's nice to make us notice it, it educates your viewers!
To explain a bit, the theme of the performance is vampire related, the red represents blood. If you notice the choreography has parts where it’s like he’s biting his wrist and crossing his arms over his chest as well as coffin references. Perhaps that will make it make more sense to you. Thanks for the review!
Personally, I saw the fisheye shots, as voyeurism. In the whole song, he's talking about him couldn't stop looking at this girl, and how much he's becoming thirsty because of her, her beauty and she makes him want to do. It's like he was watching, spying. And the vampire concept was really cooool (red, blood, and the bite on his hand during the choreography). It made me think about Naeun when he was with her during WGM, and their shooting with the vampire concept too. (Don't hate me guys, just saying what It made me think of suddenly. Not suggesting anything.) Anyway, love Taemin's album. I don't know how many times I listened to it. I suggest "Come back to you", I love it with "Love". 💞💞 His album contains a lot of sexy and sad songs regretting someone. I really appreciate your analyses, I'm doing a marathon of your videos right now lol
kaiyaxe ohh thank you ! Well there are a lot of other interesting theories in the comments. But I don't know I think it makes more sense as voyeurism for me lol
kaiyaxe weeell If you are a taeun shipper. I suggest you to check the video "what happened to taemin and naeun" on youtube. That's actually heartbreaking. They've been hurt so much after and during the show 😭
I love your reactions to Taemin, especially your discussion on his fluidity in his dancing. I also enjoy hearing your thoughts on the production of the video. Very good video, I look forward to more of your reactions!
fish eye lense was used heavenly in 90's mv & I think since MOVE had retro vibes, they wanted to add to this video a hint of retro. not all sm stations get mvs & this was just a performance video/mv so no he won't have another version of the mv. he kinda hinted at the thirsty bit in that move where he kinda bit his wrist, the song itself has a major hint of vampire.
From my point of view, I don't think there was any need for more elements in the video. Taemin dancing sensually in front of the camera and the lyrics full of lust are enough to excite our imagination. I think that in this specific case, it's the spectator who creates their own video clip. Taemin and the decor are only there to guide us through our lustful thoughts~ (¬ω¬) Also, the fish eye reminds me of a camera lens or a peephole. I almost feel like it's a direct bridge between us and him, as if we were observing it directly through a peephole. It's a bit ... a kind of voyeurism.
Theres No one like Taemin,,,,but Jimin and Taemins dance was exciting!!! Want them to do it more! You like Jimins voice,,,watch him dance with Taemin....omg!!!
To be honest I agree with you about the video not fitting the song. I love the song but there was just something off about the video and I think that has to do with how quickly it was put together. The fish eye shots bother me because they like interrupt the flow? Also I feel like they tried to be artsy because it is an SM Station, but because Taemin has so much out they didn't try as much as they could've.
Another great review. As someone who has been a SHINee fan since near their debut it's been a ride seeing Taemin go from "Noona is so pretty, push me on this swing" to dancing on floors and telling you "come here" cuz he thirsty lol but the transition from teen idol to adult soloist has been pretty smooth imo and I do think it has to do with his willingness to embrace his naturally androgynous edge and work with it rather than against. Needless to say i'm pretty pleased with the direction he's going as a soloist. You should definitely check out the full album I think you would enjoy it (It's be cool too if you did a full album review at some point. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the other tracks!)
I feel like the use of fish eye was like a way of making the viewer feel like they're peeking/checking taemin out secretly and taemin knows that the audience is indeed checking him out or in a trance because of him hence he's 'teasing' the viewers with his movements perhaps making the viewers want more or in other terms 'thirsty'. But yeah personally I don't like that fish eye shots, it was so awkward to look at. Also the fish eye shots felt like I was very close to him but he's on a high platform like a stage or something so I have to look up because I'm small.
can u check out Seyong's stage on Hit The Stage it was honestly a rlly good stage but he got last place becus he isnt well known as compated to all the other contestants
Can you listen to 'Shall We Dance' by Block B? It's really good as a song but I don't know what you'll think about the MV; I'm interested to see what you think..
I didn't like the fisheye either. Also, some of the scenes cut out part of the dances that I like. I prefer his live performances of this song. Taemin is doing a great job with this comeback. I've been playing the whole album all the way through since I first listened to it. I've also been watching his live performances.
Just FYI, this version is slightly different than the album version because it was created for the SM Station release. A notable difference is the extra percussion samples added in the chorus. The album version highlights the bass better giving it a more haunting feel.
I know it has been a while, but can you react to Taemin' Sayonara Hitori. I would love to hear you talk about it all (though there is the official video, the dance practice amazes me because of the choreography, that one is my happy place video)
I remember baby Taemin too and that bad hair and his I want to be a dancer, well, hard work paid off, he is a dancer and the androgynous part is not really necessary he is just a dancer and a talented singer. Nice reaction, could you react to FT Island Wind MV or Crying in the Rain Korean version please, I know they don't have all this fandom but they are 10 years old this year and they are amazing. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vBbVbZm0tAk.html
I thought both Taemin's performance and the use of the fisheye gave a sort of disoriented/lightheaded tone to the video! The way he was stumbling around towards the end, and when his backup dancers were holding him up, it felt like he really was dehydrated lol, and it reminded me of desert scenes in movies where things distort and characters begin to see mirages in the distance. Also Taemin certainly has come a long way since debut! I think SM is showcasing his style of dance pretty well through his performance videos.
the usage between this hard red vs hard blue imaginery is popular nowadays dont you think? in kpop. vixx lr. taemin. exids new mv got them too. i cant list out everything but its really there i think
The lightly referenced the "thirst" part at the end where the shot gets all blurry and the play with the brightness of the lights. Otherwise, yeah, I wanted water too lmao.
The fisheye camera could be a hint that someone is watching form the other side? It's the same when you live in a flat and you have one of those look holes in the door to see who it is. I think that could be the reason why it was included?
