👨‍👩‍👦ABOUT ME:
Borahae! I am a singer/songwriter/producer that rediscovered my passion for music during the pandemic after hearing BTS. A wild musical journey ensued that reunited 2 childhood friends (me & Lucas). Along the way, we built a music studio and now we travel the world to showcase both known and hidden talents that deserve more recognition.
What to expect here? An immersive musical journey full of:
1.) Reactions (sort of) - We broke the OLD format! No FAKE, no substance reactions. Our Podcast style reactions are short musical adventures breaking down the music to teach about elements that make your favorite songs great. Plus wild stories along the way!
2.) Original music from us.
3.) Exclusive interviews & performances from your favorite artists & hidden gems.
4.) Music podcast for everything we can't cover in a short video
💜You Nice! Keep Going!💜

I am a Japanese ALPHAZ (XG fandom name) living in the US, grew up with early 2k, Harajuku girls and Teriyakis boys gens. I’ve been watching XG since their pre-debut and love what they produce. I’ve been profoundly thinking about how they can break the boundaries of Asians to be competitive in the US market. I can’t help them get popular but your feedback matters. I really do think XG producers watch your videos and will listen to your feedback. Please continue reacting to XG content! Thanks for your reactions❤

XG grew up on old skool hiphop/R&B/pop they idolized those artists growing up. XG has said that many times in interviews. Thats who they are at their core. Thats what makes them different from every other girl group out there today. They are legit and genuine when it comes to performing and paying homage to the old skool.

They did their own take on Cordae's track Two Tens. The original song was released this year so its a new song but with an old school flavor which is why XG did their own version.

It’s a whole big xgalx team around them from Japan/Korea and US so that’s why they are really knowing what they do!

Not a critique, but You understand that old school hip hop is their thing right? They’re not trying to be like everyone today. They prefer 90’s and 2k’s style. What’s old is new as they say

The whole group loves older hip hop and r&b. It isn't necessarily a marketing thing. It's something that's in them organically. But i will say that it is an advantage to be able to be cool enough for the younger crowd but have a sound that can attract some old heads like myself. I applaud them for taking on simpler beats. You can't hide on it. The beats were made to let the MC shine. With these newer beats you can just rap fast and people think you're good but you aren't spitting any bars. I do look forward to them getting a little more freedom. They have the tapes but the group singles don't really let the rappers shine. Nice reaction ✌🏾

The rap verses were in English, Korean and Japanese. Maya's Japanese rap verses written to rhyme and flow into the English verses. The XGALX songwriting team is remarkable in being able to structure the verses to reference the rap artists who have influenced the sound and tying in current pop and social/cultural references into the lyrics and making it work. Harvey shows love to Anderson Paak and Cordae (original video: Two Tens)in one of the Korean verses. '다시 또 본때를 보여줘 Paak'dae 곡에 대박행' (Show me your true self again, hit the jackpot with Paak' Dae) You would think that it would be clumsy and off putting but it ends up perking your interest and make you want to listen even more closely to the 'Easter Eggs'.To be so aware of social platforms that they would shout out to RU-vid reviewers to let them know that they are appreciated and thank them for being a large part of their popularity and success. You may not care for them but you can't say they are not doing it differently and that makes them stand out. You hit it right on the mark. Not one obscenity, not one curse word, not one reference to vulgar sex. One trend I do see is that XG does like to call out their haters, not harshly but with enough sass to let them know that despite the criticism, they will not be defeated by it. Amazing group.

Cardi B won’t let her own daughter listen to her music. Doesn’t that say something is wrong with what’s being put out there today? What XG pumps out is refreshing. I’ve heard other reactions from people who love rap but wouldn’t mind their own kids listening to XG. Thanks for the XG reaction and I hope you guys do more.

They would be J-pop and not K-Pop, but they kinda break that mold too. Oh no, here come the K-Pop neophytes talking about "But they trained in Korea.." They did, for a couple of years they went back and forth between Japan and Korea. That doesn't make them Korean nor does it make their music K-Pop. "But, but, but Hinata and Simon are Korean!" Half, they are both as much Japanese as they are Korean. "But, but but Simon Park, their producer, is former member of boy group DMTN. He is Korean for sure and the group is all his vision!" Yes he was in DMTN 2010 to 2013. But hold that thought while you process this one, Simon was born in Seattle, Washington, USA, that kinda makes him an American, a Japanese, Korean American to be sure, but an American. And if you think about the market he's going after, so many things make sense. His musical style, from the beats and song arrangement to the girls fashion is pure 1990's American. K-Pop don't get to claim a musical style from the 90's in the US, Japan doesn't either. Having been in DMNT gave him a good understanding about what K-Pop does well as well as what Korea has on offer in the way of resources ( ie, choreographers, vocal coaches, producers, videographers etc.) but most importantly he had the connections me made in the K-Pop industry in his time there. Once he had the backing of an Avex CEO this train was rolling! Oh, by the way, Avex has a branch in South Korea but Avex Entertainment is one of the largest entertainment companies in Japan. They also have a branch in the US, which, again, considering his direction for this group, makes sense. To see the whole picture you have to grasp the music market, domestically in Korea as well as Japan and then the world. The English speaking market makes up the largest portion of music markets world wide with the US for as long as anyone can remember holding #1, Number 2, and I'm talking the entire world's music market values is Japan and has been for as long as I can remember. England is usually #3 with Germany occasionally taking the spot but otherwise they are usually #4, Australia and Canada moving up and down but always top 10. South Korea didn't even crack the top 10 until 2013 moving up to 8 in 2014 and holding that spot till 2016. In 2017 the made it up to #6 till 2020 when they dropped back down to #7, the point is they were never higher than 6th, they are still holding #7. Japan's music market can sustain itself allowing a good amount of stars from various genre's grow wealthy. They have always had a lot of talent constantly entering the market from various genre's from Idol groups (what most people who only know K-Pop assume is the Japanese equivalent of K-Pop., it isn't but that's another discussion for another day.) to Rap and Hip-Hop, EDM, Rock, Metal, Classical, Jazz, Pop, Folk, nFunk to bands that downright defy genre like the Wagakki Band, suffice to say lots of genre's of music who enter the scene, rise in popularity then vanish as their members pursue other paths or fall from favor, some bands evolve with new singers and members occasionally making the right lineup to catapult them to the top of the charts or RU-vid rotation like Nemophila, Aldious, Bridear or Hanabie, others never quite get it right. Some amazing singers get signed to companies who produce Anime, to whom other than the opening and closing of an episode they could give two figs for promoting their artists, others who do like LiSA's or Mell's have usually been the exception rather than the rule.. The rest of the world is starting to realize what a musical Gems those islands are creating (This is also another discussion for another day.) South Korea never could sustain a music industry that saw it's artists grow wealthy. They had some very popular groups who were exploited by their label's then tossed aside many with huge debts to the label's which had made millions off their talents. Very few truly got wealthy in S. Korea's pop industry until real recently. That said these label's had dialed in how to get every penny from foreign markets through training/grooming, well made, big budget video's, music productions and the K-Pop formula and TV appearances and a grueling tour circuit which had little or no regard for the artists health, mental or physical, comfort, relationships. Just show after show and with any luck ticket and album/swag sales to Korean expats in the US, UK, Australia and Canada and a little bit of luck to reach a market beyond that. I won't get into sponsorship or Ambassador positions with fashion brands, that is a whole separate thing deserving of it's own discussion. XG is a different animal as 90% of the lyrics are in English, the other 10 between Japanese and Korean. Within a year they were doing huge festivals in the US, I am sure this will soon translate into headlining these festivals considering their music is accessible to all of the English speaking world in a way that BlackPink, Aespa or Passcode with maybe 30% of their lyrics being in English will never be able to compete with in the long run. Then there is the nostalgia factor, their video's are reminiscent of 90's Missy Elliot, Puffy, Jamerique, SWV's, TLC, Spice Girls, En Vogue, Xscape, Destiny's Child etc. as is the music itself.. That's my 2 cents worth from an Dj and producer old enough to have spun in the 80's and 90's.
