2:40 Infact, in Indian music we do have 22 distinct notes (or swaras or shruthis)...the meend is just an embellishment after all. you can read more if you want at www.22shruti.com/ ...(read under the 'research' tab, it is quite interesting!) The equal temperament we commonly use in western music these days is sort of a compromised tuning scheme. btw Thank you for the video :)
Thank you Gaurav for explaining and giving an insight of your music production. I like your style. Much appreciated. Thank you Dave for sharing the video on RU-vid.
Wow That was an Eye Candy.... GAURAV REALLY PROUD OF YOU..... I have been following Pensado since 4 years and He is too good with what he does.... How you MESMERIZED him with the The Brilliant Percussion Instruments......
He is referencing Roopak Taal in Hindustani Music, which is based on a 7 beat cycle (equivalent of Misra Chapu in Carnatic Music). It is not the same as Roopakam in Carnatic Music, regardless of the similarity in the names.
The "Duff" is actually called and spelt Dafli. The Dholak is pronounced with OR not OO. This is cool, other than this Indian man getting our instrument names wrong lol. Indian music has a lot to offer western music and vice versa. Check out the latest vid on my channel where I incorporate the Tablas and the Dohl in to a western pop style song.
As a South Asian mix engineer I don't necessarily agree with Gaurav's approach to the way he eq'd the indian percussion. That's a lot top end on multiple instruments. Being in that music space I hear so many records where the instruments are fighting for space with the vocals.
My biggest issue is when I do it (I'm in a punk band with an accordion) is the accordion cutting through too much at times. I swear they could cut through concrete!
We just need the samples and tracks. Not the hacks. specifics of producing Indian music is nothing specific, other than the hegemony. One can pass the tabla thru distortion or totally blow it to smithereens via a sampler...
