The paints will bed down into the pans as they get wet and dry off. Any paints that remain loose you can add a drop of gum arabic to the bottom of the pan and place the paint onto it. It should act like a drop of water soluble glue holding it in place. I also used a small bit of blu tac under the plastic pans and pressed them back ino the holder to stop them falling out when the palette is upended. I hope that helps a bit. Its a good idea to leave the palette to dry open to stop paints getting mouldy. I enjoyed your video. ❤
Oh that's a really useful tip, Thank you! I also didn't know that the paints might go mouldy if they don't dry out properly, so a big thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much for sharing. I’m interested in this palette. In Thailand this palette costs over £25. So I study a lot to make sure it’s worth to pay for or not. Thank you 🙏🏻😊
The palette does come apart but it's fiddly. I've had 3 for 20 years. Mostly I wipe clean and use a cotton bud with cream kitchen cleaner then wipe with a wet tissue. I have no problem taking the palette away sketching. Put it in a plastic bag if you are worried about leaks or let the palette dry before you pack up. Doesnt take long! Paints don't fall out when they are a bit wet with paint sticking them in. You could always use a dot of double sided tape! I keep a shaved down pencil and bit of eraser with mine. Ideal for painting postcards. A bit of varnish or precut sticky back plastic stops the picture washing away. I also use a spray wood varnish.
That's really helpful, Thank you! I also hadn't thought of a bit of cream cleaner and a cotton bud. I'm looking forward to some better weather for a field test! Thank you for dropping by :)
I really enjoyed your review. I have a similar set of Cotman's; the compact field set. I just let it dry before closing. I find it dries quickly, especially when I'm using it outside in summer. I really like these paints. Love your artwork.
I also leave my palettes to dry before closing them unless I am outside painting, then I will roughly dry it and put it in a ziplock bag. Open it to dry at home :)
One way to get the paints to stick in their basins is to put some warm water on them enough to seep around in into the bottom to cause them to stick in place when dry. Another thing to be aware of if you continue in using watercolors, which I hope you do, is to avoid tube brands that use honey in them (like Sennellier and M. Graham) so you don't end up with a mess when they run in your kit. At least until you're ready for that. It's all a learning curve. But please do enjoy the journey!
