About The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel: In 1958 New York, Midge Maisel’s life is on track- husband, kids, and elegant Yom Kippur dinners in their Upper West Side apartment. But when her life takes a surprise turn, she has to quickly decide what else she’s good at - and going from housewife to stand-up comic is a wild choice to everyone but her. I love how this series steps through the various eras with such a wonderful sense of style and flair. All that hard work and dedication definitely comes through. Maisel has been such a joy to watch. The writing, the sets, the outfits.. everything is so well done.

By far this production has some of the greatest talents in the biz. I am constantly drawn back to every episode not only because of the phenomenal writing, script but also by the talented art directors, set designers and costume designs. Every scene is colorgasmic!

I enjoy the clothes and the sets and I don’t enjoy the foul language. I enjoy the parents and Joel’s interacial relationship. I’m old so it really is accurate to the times.

Why not use real places to save money and resources? The design is amazing but wow, and I adore the show, what wow, what a waste of raw materials.

It's almost always easier with a period piece to re-create it in the studio. A lot of work goes into hiding modern amenities, architecture, etc. And, like they said, with all the COVID restrictions closing things down, they could have more control over the situation. Everything can be purpose-built and staging room for all the behind the scenes needs (make-up, costumes, cast and crew vehicles, etc.) is more controlled when not on location... not to mention the weather. Filming in an actual location costs $$$ because you have to rent the place, pay other nearby places to rent space for cast and crew, truck folks out to the location (in a studio you can have multiple on-screen locales in one place), and then there are filming permits, traffic and crowd control, extra security etc. I used to work as a location manager and can tell you, on location in an actual building/location isn't necessarily cheaper. And I never worked on a period piece, myself, so I can see the benefits of filming a show like this in a studio.

@@EricaGamet This is exactly correct. This season was constructed/filmed during the COVID pandemic, with plenty of precautions and expense from production to enable its construction, and extensive filming on location would have been an enormous hassle. This web episode is an interesting document of the time, capturing the workers in face masks. And the bulk of the season was filmed in the theater, clearly with no expense spared for detail. I also agree with Peace Now... but the set did turn out Marvelous.

The writing, while still maintaining its sharpness, doesn't quite hit the same comedic heights as before. The once rapid-fire banter and hilarious one-liners feel a bit subdued, and the overall humor fails to elicit the same level of laughter as it did in the show's earlier installments. The absence of consistent comedic brilliance is a disappointment for fans who were initially drawn to the series for its wit and charm. In last scene despite being into a blizzard midge hair is so still like some of the episodes.
