The thing about the 70 game schedule, was that it really made every player hate each other, so the games were tough and it became a chess game to win. Which made the playoffs "more bonkers", as they had 70 games of fights, hits, and rivalries, going into at least one bitter playoff series. Also Pentti Lund was the first finish born NHL player, though he grew up in Port Arthur, Ontario (part of modern day Thunder Bay).

Yup which is why Toronto and montreal rivalry used to be insane Iv heard. Same with Boston and Montreal of course. Sadly wasn’t born when the original six was happening lol

So many Cups for my Leafs in the 40's, 1 in the 50's, 4 in the 60's, then money grubbers took over the team most years, and winning the Cup became an afterthought.

They played in an era long before me, but I've played with these names in cards & dice tabletop sim hockey games. A lot of familiar names. Pentti Lund was just the second Finnish-born NHL player, and first star (the one guy before him only played 4 NHL games). Paul Ronty has done damage to my tabletop terrorizing the backs of Habs' nets. And how could one forget a name like George Gee?

This was one heck of a Stanley Cup Final. That is part of the reason I like these history videos. I like that you also add in events are going on around the time. Like the ice being painted white. Or in the other video that 5 Rangers were badly hurt from an auto accident during training camp in the '48-'49 season. This is now the era where the Black Hawks are very lousy and have real problems if I remember correctly.

They didn't have curved sticks nor could they shoot it fast cause the slap shot wasn't invented yet and the sticks were wood and brittle and the net is 4 feet high and goaltenders played standup on their feet whole time so unless you were a midget with bad balance and facing a player on a breakaway with a broken blade on their stick... The odds of getting pinged in the head was rare as now a days it's almost every game... And if it does hit u in the head it wasn't going 100 miles an hour, it wouldn't kill a dog as it was shot slower than your mom speeds to get to Starbucks for her orange mocha Frappuccino's before the start of your soccer practice!

They had television back then and games were televised! And you're find no shortage of footage of hockey in this era on youtube... They even filmed hockey in the 20's where you can see some footage that still exist and tv was invented in the 30's and blew up in popularity after WWii, and tv stations were becoming prominent and challenging radio for media dominance which they would dethrone by the end of the 50's... Remember people were listening to hockey games- LIVE!- on the radio for decades before they watched them on tv and that remains a popular choice for decades to come though became an alternative as most family's would opt to watch the game on tv in their tv room while eating tv dinners together for hockey night in Canada back in those days!

You actually did this series 4-5 years ago; however, this version is more “professional” than the first time you did. Not saying that the first iteration was, but there’s a bit more info in this go around than the previous iteration.

So what color was the ice before they decided to paint it white? Grey, from the concrete?

Ice is translucent but when it's a thick dense layer like in a hockey rink it appears bright white and opaque with the light bouncing off of it... Any dirt or debris will muddle the surface sheen and render it off-white to end grey under the hot lights of an arena! It's good to note that it's hard to see things in the dark without some source of light also that color is an illusion from how the light reflects off objects and into our eye lens... So in the dark there is no color- So, go to sleep!!!

Once quick stint in the nervous hospital would have straightened him out in no time flat... Back then there was no player union so hockey teams did not cover such medical charges- though back then mental illness was barely seen as a medical condition but more as a character/personality flaw so probably would have ended his career if he got the help he needed for his anxiety back then... Also they did not have the same treatments and diagnosis so such mental conditions so the leading treatment for high anxiety back then was ETS- "the shakes" or the newly patented go-to solution that solves all: The Frontal Lobotomy... But it is hard to play goalie with part your brain digged out by an ice pick- though some goaltenders could have used that!
