Also consider that if you were given more time to shop for a dress code you'd be able to be more selective and find items that you like and may actually wear again, instead of having to buy whatever items you can find at the last minute to satisfy said dress code. ✨

I love these videos, every time I scroll through social media i find myself buying or wanting to buy stuff that I don’t necessarily need . The amounts of money that we sometimes spend on products that we were influenced to buy over along periods of time can be saved or invested in other areas of our lives on stuff we truly need.

I adore this series - I wish more people would think critically about our consumer culture and have the humility like you to self-critique! It's something I'm guilty of and have been working to set limits for myself to keep from over-consuming. Like - who really uses hair perfume??? Isn't that what my normal perfume is already for?! Thank you for saying it!

Absolutely love these kinds of videos. We all need to consume less and use what we actually have. I am the same with the lingerie. It has just never been for me and I’ve forced myself to buy and wear and was so uncomfortable. I don’t wear it anymore and my husband thinks I’m sexier than ever. You just do you.

I used to work for a clothing rental company. I always made sure to only rent the newest items because BO eventually gets stuck in all the clothes…especially the formal dresses. 🥴

I see all the declutter videos, that I used to love, and I see drawers and drawers of products that will end up almost new in the trash because there’s no way someone can use that much. Hopefully this is a trend. I remember buying so many blushes, bronzers, etc, because I saw them in RU-vid and “I had to have them”. Now I know, I need basically one of each thing I use, not more, as a regular person, I’m not an influencer, but watching these videos reminds me of that.

You recommended the unscented Lubriderm body lotion in the past and i've been hooked ever since. Its actually the only lotion that I have ever emptied and have continued to repurchase. So thank you for that!! Love these vids!

I have recently added a powder contour product in my collection (hello, very inexpensive Essence contour palette) and I LOVE IT! But I especially use it for a quick eye shadow, as you do with powder bronzer. I love it for my everyday makeup routine! I’m with you on waterproof mascara, though.

I have very dry and very sensitive and I’m really grateful to you for always sharing just the right products for my skin type. You have saved my skin so much. And yeah I agree with waterproof and anything-proof products. It caused the same problem to me and I just gave up on them 😂 anyway thank you so much Allana and love you ❤

there's definitely a shift in mindset re consumerism in 2024, at least for me ... the jumping to own everything & ultimately hoarding mindset is tired and so i'm so appreciative of these videos/ further encouragement.

On the topic of mascaras if you get to where you need a new one…. 100% try the Thrive cosmetics one! It’s not waterproof but if lasts ALL day (I train Brazilian jujitsu this lasts through a 2 1/2 class with no smudges) BUT then when I go to wash it off it comes right off with a little cleanser and warm water. Been using it solely for 3 years now!

You mentioned finances recently and while I totally understand that it’s a very personal subject you don’t want to share on the internet for obvious reasons, I think a video with general tips and insights would be great if you decide to make one.

I think this is a valuable message/video especially in our current world of conspicuous consumption. The exact items may vary, but being more mindful about spending patterns is always a smart move. I used to purchase items from Ulta or Sephora just for the sake of the rewards programs. So ridiculous when you think about it, and so many unnecessary purchases! Like makeup is that important in the big scheme of my life? It makes me cringe thinking about it now.

The way that I felt so seen when you said you often think of the opening scene of TDWP. It truly fueled an unnecessary obsession with very pricey pricey lingerie purchases that did not serve me at alllll. Love this love you!

I feel the same way. I am doing a massive new years clear out and I've put so many of my "once worn" or even never worn clothing items on Ebay. Pretty much all of them I was influenced to buy. It's standard to get about a third back of what you paid. This painful lesson is teaching me to think long and hard before adding anything to my wardrobe; and just because it looked amazing on (insert influencers name) doesn't mean that it will suit me.

Waterproof mascara is the worst! I am not sure if you have tried fractionated coconut oil for mascara removal. You need to be careful but it works wonders. I have used it for years. Thanks for all your beautiful videos!

I love these videos. I try to be more and more intentional with what I’m spending my money on and what I’m bringing into my life. So inspired to see others doing it as well! Also I haven’t bought lingerie in like 9 years haha we had gotten a new pup around the same time and she absolutely WRECKED my expensive lingerie that I had only worn once by chewing her way through our laundry pile in the laundry room and I’m clearly still bitter about it - haven’t bought anything like that since haha

9:28 loveeee the idea of renting items for specific/special occasions. The issue for me is the sizing. Being 6’ and sizing varying sooo much in women’s clothing means I can fit a 12/14/16 depending on brand 😂

Really enjoying these deinfluencing videos! I feel the same about lingerie but I always end up feeling like I need it to feel good about myself, when in reality I feel best when I am comfortable. Plus there are « cute » comfy things too. ( I really like Huha underwear and have heard good things about Mary Young.)

love this vid and concept - so with you on the scented body lotions, so unnecessary! Unfortunately waterproof mascara is the only thing that keeps my lashes curled. I also hardly ever wear mascara but when I do it’s gotta be waterproof and then a good oil remover at the end of the day works just fine!

I can totally relate to the lingerie part lol I have lingerie that I haven’t touched in years because it’s either uncomfortable or itchy or I just don’t want to wear it and I’d rather be comfortable in other undergarment pieces like Skims or just nothing at all 😅 So I am definitely on the no buying lingerie train!

I think the reason why we can pretty much contour with bronzer (as KJH said you can countour with bronzer but not necesserily viceversa😉) is that even 4-5 years bronzers were SO warm but these days that are a lot of nice neutral-tone bronzers.
