It's true that in the late 80s 'Yo MTV Raps' was like a breath of fresh air in the suffocating wackness of Shitty Butt/Hair Metal of the day. That, BET, and that 'video juke box' channel that was on UHF in some places, were often the ONLY places some of us could hear De La Soul, Ultramagnetic MCs, Public Enemy, Gang Starr, Poor Righteous Teachers,XClan, and all the other examples of pure, uncut DOPE that was Hip Hop's 'Golden Age'. The Source, Grand Royal, and the (sorely missed) 'Ego Trip' magazines were great, too, (if you could actually find copies). Every sort of non-mainstream/underground music styles, from speed metal to hard-core punk rock, to dub to techno often involved putting in some work, some effort, some digging, to find the Good Shit. Plenty of times, you'd read a rave review of something, only to be underwhelmed with the cassette when you finally tracked it down. Of course, there were a lotta times it went the other way, as well. Finding the Pharcyde's 'bizarre ride' on a 'promo only' tape in a used bin was one such time. It definitely isn't like today where kids have the whole world in their phones.

Prof gets side-tracked... less than I do. Bravo. How do you stay focused with so many irons in the fire? A single digit list of projects is niether attainable nor realistic in my waking hours. This is fun to engage because I know it helps this channel but I realize none of this content is current. Oh well. I'm inspired to write; pen is going to pages. And that's worth comments going nowhere. It's so hard to write a rap song. And you do it so well. I have works that I started decades ago and still work on today. Yup. Time comes when you have to move on. Or your just wasting your time. Which used to be fun but who has time for that shit now?! Finally, why does mainstream rap sound so generic and its ubiquity terrorizes me. How do you come up with such unique music to accompany your prose? It stands apart.
