Professional Dancer Reacts To EXO "Obsession" [Rehearsal + Performance]

This is probably one of my favorite live stages because it played into their concept. It’s not just two stages/two outfits. It’s EXO vs their evil clones, which goes into their overall story concept. So they REALLY pulled it off with this cut.

Now, you should check out the behind the scenes of the filming of their @EXO the Stage live performance, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Juyy4BWmMfw.html​. If you watch the behind the scenes footage you will see that Shindong -- who is the lead dancer, lead rapper and vocalist from Super Junior, who is a senior group to EXO, also under SM Entertainment -- and his video production company were the ones that directed this whole performance and video shoot. (Shindong and his company are also the ones that produce all of SM's @the stage videos for all of SM's groups and artists.) In EXO's "Obsession" MV what we see is that EXO are the good guys in all black and X-EXO are the members in the colorful outfits with the crazy hair and makeup. X-EXO are EXO's alter ego clones who have been created by the evil Red Force. And as part of EXO's storyline, EXO and X-EXO are fighting each other. So in the live performance what you see is the juxtaposition of the two groups as they portray both their good and evil characters. The guy in red is Suho who is EXO's leader, or in this case because you see him in red, he would be X-EXO's leader at that moment. He looks evil like the devil because this is supposed to be his evil alter ego clone. When you see the split screen this is supposed to be the two groups talking to each other, essentially saying that neither group plans on giving up until they accomplish their mission. In the behind the scenes footage you will be able to see how the EXO members kept up the act between the EXO and X-EXO stages and when they interacted with the audience in between the performances they pretended to be EXO during the EXO stage and they were their X-EXO characters during the X-EXO version. LOL Even behind the sense they keep up their characters and storyline. :D Everything EXO does is connected to their concept. EXO are supposed to be aliens from Planet Exo who have been sent to Earth on a mission to find and protect the Tree of Life from the evil Red force. EXO are trying to prevent X-EXO from taking over and corrupting humanity and X-EXO are trying to stop EXO from finding the Tree of Life and putting the two halves back together in order to restore peace, etc. And as part of their mission, EXO are also tasked with preventing and fixing all the bad things that are happening on Earth, such as war, hate and the destruction of the environment, which is thought to be caused by the Red Force.

So actually Super Junior's Shindong is the one who directed that performance. He is a great dancer himself and has a production company who was in charge of that particular comeback stage. I remember you reacting to Taemin's performance of Criminal and Shindong was in charge of directing that one as well.

Everyone likes the foot stamping move like they're crushing cockroaches. This is the first time I've noticed it but in the live performance Baekhyun (white hair) flicks his leg back like he's wiping his shoe before he turns and walks away 😂

Since exo is very heavy vocal group, generally their choreos have no complex formations but few songs are exception though. Coz it's really hard to sustain doing hard choreo + power vocals. So proud that exo has been doing it flawlessly.

One thing that made Kai an excellent performer for me is the fact that he really enjoys it. You can really see how much he's having fun on stage, he just made the performance a nth times better.

EXO is not only amazing when it comes to vocals, they are also amazing dancers. Kings indeed ♡

The concept of Obsession is EXO (good) vs. ĖXØ (evil) (read EXO vs. X-EXO). It's part of their overall concept XD

I've noticed in this whole video they had kind of weird spacing at points in the choreo, and I honestly think it might be because technically Lay should be there. Every time I notice a weird spacing issue I always think "a whole other body could fit in right there" and I think that's the point, they were leaving room for another body i.e. Lay. Not 100% sure, just my opinion, but great video I love coming here and watching your dance breakdowns !!!

My bias is Sehun but I honestly think Kai and Lay are in the same level when it comes to dancing. Like what you said that Sehun is like almost in the same level with Kai. Sehun's a very great dancer. Like seriously but sometimes the maknae is lazy lmao.

i really appreciate your insight and knowledge in these reactions! as a dancer, what's the difference between textures and dynamics? from my knowledge, textures are like smooth, gritty, grimy, etc. and dynamics is more like speed (so fast to slow). so in that case, textures contribute to the dynamics of a dance but not vice versa? thanks in advance!

Hey, I really liked your reaction. The guy who you said is almost at same energy level as Kai is called "Sehun". He's one of the three main dancers, obviously. And he's also one of the two main rappers. Sehun is usually even more energetic when he's doing solo stuff so: If I may suggest his solo song "On Me" ? The choreo for it is crazy and Sehun said it was the hardest choreo he ever danced to At 19:10 the guy who messed up a little is Chanyeol but he says himself that dancing is hard for him. He focusses on rapping (he's also one of the two main rappers along with Sehun and they have a rap subunit called EXO-SC) and he also focusses on singing a lot! I hate the camera work on the live stage but they still slayed
