The snake motif that Taemin is embodying is from the story of Adam and Eve about temptation (meme during this era was "taemtation") as the lyrics in the first half of the song also mention how the "sweetness of the forbidden apple tempts you" The female dancer who came in and out throughout the performance also represented temptation that he was either unbothered by himself or was just chicly responding to. She actually later went on to debut last year as Karina, the leader of SM's newest girl group "aespa". Her parts with Taemin really reminded me of some of Michael Jackson's concert performances with single female partners The choreographer for WANT is actually once again Koharu Sugawara who Taemin loves to work with as she also did Sayonara Hitori (Goodbye), Flame of Love, MOVE, Criminal, etc the WANT dance practice video is probably Taemin's least best in terms of energy/execution and then of course the annoying moving camera, but if and whenever you can I highly recommend you check out either the INKIGAYO version of it in the last super MJ-esque outfit, the Dream Concert performance of it in the dark blue suit, or just a whole ass stage mix of all the music show performances because he was radiating extreme final boss energy during this era and every single opening was completely freestyled so that no performance of WANT would be fully identical to another

Taemin's "Want" is one of those songs that the lyrics take the song and performance up to the next level. :D The lyrics give the song and performance a whole other feel and it helps to explain the images and story you see being told in the MV. (You should now watch the MV with the CC English translation of the lyrics on, so you can understand the song and MV better.) Many people think that "Want" has a vampire vibe, and I can see where some might get the vampire feel from this MV. After all, one of Taemin's nicknames is SHINee's eternal vampire because in some performances and MVs, the way he looks and the aesthetic of the performance gives him a vampire image. However, in "Want" Taemin is supposed to be portraying Lucifer. That's why he seems to have a love affair with those snakes. (The ones he is holding are real snakes.) And, like Lucifer, he is supposed to be seducing the audience and the girl using his devilish powers, and it is why his dance moves look like he is slithering like a snake, etc. Taemin is a devout Catholic, and most of this MV showcases his faith as it tells the story using numerous Biblical references. Fun fact: One of Taemin's backup dancers for "Want" is Yoo JiMin (Karina) who is a member of SM's new girl group aespa. She participated in this song as a rookie trainee even before aespa's debut. (Aespa debuted Nov. 17.) She was also a backup dancer for live performances of the song. "Want" was, once again, choreographed by Sugawara Koharu. You can see her signature style in this dance. Taemin has always been known for saving his energy for where it counts the most -- for live performances and for filming MVs -- dance practices for him are literally dance practices, so he is just allowing himself to feel the dance and get in the groove. He is less worried about being spot on exact and more about showing everyone the feel of the choreography and the story behind the dance. That is why the MV has a different feel to it. The style and aesthetic in "Want" is just the kind of vibe we have all come to expect from Taemin. I find it interesting that all of his songs, with the titles alone, tell you exactly what Taemin is all about. If you look at all the titles of his songs, you will see that the titles convey one of two things about him, either painting a picture of his sexy and sensual onstage personality, or they explain his dedication and passion as an artist. Taemin is just one of those performers that leaves you speechless every time he steps on stage. He was born to be a performer and that is one of the reasons why he has become known as the Korean Michael Jackson. That is also why, as one of the top two dancers in the industry, he was made a member of SuperM. (Kai from EXO -- Taemin's best friend since they were trainees, who is also under SM Entertainment, as well as a fellow member of SuperM -- is the other top dancer.) You can't go wrong with any of SHINee's songs or Taemin's solos.

This entire MV is a retelling of Genesis 3. Taemin is a devout Catholic and many of his MVs are filled with biblical imagery, metaphors & allusions -- especially "Want".

its such a tricky balance he has mastered, between overdoing it and underdoing it somehow? its like i can see the where the line would've been and he reaches it without crossing it in a way that gives me a sort of vertigo? the small details that only his stage presence awards relevance or meaning or impact, that would make anybody else break my suspension of disbelief for being too long a pause among the razzle dazzle, but he also goes grand and almost alienating in sequences that make me so aware of my human limits??? not just in a skill i lack or the comfort he exhibits with movement that i cant relate to having experienced, like watching him fly as i struggle to run through water, not only would i fail at imitating him, i would be a fool to even try v_v

Thank you for your reactions and analysis. I'm sorry I missed the live today. Taemin says he represents Temptation here. He had the editor add the clips of him dancing in the tshirt outside for more texture. I heard that the woman dancing in the performance video is SM introducing Karina, leader of aespa. SM groups do that as a practice. (He also does a subtle intro of aespa in his SuperM video.) I'll double check her identity and edit as necessary. Anyway, The Phantom is anxious because they use on May 31st for his military hiatus. If you have a chance, and you haven't already done so, you might want to take a look at the title number for his new album, Advice.

She’s not the choreographer. That’s Karina who just debuted under the same company last year. At the time this song was released, she was a trainee. I guess the company wanted her to gain some experience from performing with Taemin.

Just saying for me the MV is not considered a “performance” especially if we consider Taemin’s quality while performing is does not give justice (he is known as a genius performer). I would suggest to get a real performance option or just say that is the MV reaction because I was waiting for something else :( The observations were interesting thought.
