Simon just said on Brodie and Ulis podcasts that he thinks if it takes this much deliberation, then benefit should fall to the player. Imo this should have been in. If it's ambiguous, the player gets the benefit of the doubt.

I disagree. The water line is considered the OB line and it's clearly above the rocks the disc is lying on. I also wouldn't care one way or the other though. If Simon and Eagle thinks it's in I'd give it to him.

😂 drew says to Eagle he needs to look closely and everyone else is saying they think it's too close to tell( like it should be), next clip no idea where it crossed doesn't care what the spotter says and puts himself wherever fits best for him 😂😂😂. Meanwhile, me and my disc homies are like if you can fetch that disc from the middle of a near-frozen lake with nothing but your underwear and a 2 foot stick, you get an ace. I get it though, there's money on on the line here and it's rules play. Most of these guys in the video are cool about it. That first one though... c'mon. It's above the water level and if rocks don't count as land, you need to reconsider mountains.

So like a big boulder sticking out of the water on in a river or lake is inbounds? I’m new so am not sure but it seems like Drew’s thinking is that anything inside the outer water boundary is OB (even rocks sticking up out of the water). Is that addressed in the official rules?

Any rock touched by Drew's disc is to be picked from the earth and hurled at Drew's head by each member of the card, before Gibson proceeds to the drop zone with a 1 penalty stroke

He's the new kid on the block, seems respectable, and I liked talking to him when I played with him casually in Iowa at the course he helped design when he was 15.

Having the card decide these kinds of things in a friendly game or local league is one thing. But in a professional tournament with actual money riding on it, there should be a neutral third party that makes these decisions. Even if most players wouldn't say a shot was OB just to cost the other guy a stroke, somebody would and that would always raise questions. Especially the first time it happens on the Lead card final round, where this decision might decide a tournament.

Some day we'll get there- but the sport didn't have money to pay 18 officials to watch each hole or follow each card. Maybe officials will be hired for the Pro Tour or some A tier events, but might not ever happen for the cheaper events.

Eagle's shot was in-bounds. The disc in the bunker was OB. Gibson's shot probably didn't cross in bounds but the first camera angle was cut off too soon. Cat Allen was correct that her disc likely went OB in the more advanced position.

The weird thing is that it seems they convinced Eagle he was out and he picked up his disc, rather than making the judgment for him, as is required. That and Simon's point of it taking so long, they should just give it to him as it wasn't clear.

Yeah no you're wrong. If there is a rock on the shore that is surrounded by water and a disc lands balanced on the rock (but not touching land), it is OB. The whole point Drew was making was you could see "under" the disc, meaning it wasn't touching land. They agreed the rock was surrounded by water so it's OB. Ricky and Drew said OB, that's really the end of discussion, unfortunately. Funny Drew gets the brunt of the hate when Ricky was pretty adamant about calling it 😁

One person commented in Blue Ridge video that there should not be a painted OB around water area and water should be OB line. By having a painted line or a rope or sticks, it eliminates this type of is there water around discussion. Anyway, in benefit of a doubt, it is player's benefit. If there was water around the rocks and in front of the disc, then it was OB. Can't see that from a video. Water level changes so having a water level as OB ,it is not the same for the whole field. Water level can change during the day.

When I'm on a card I always give any benefit of the doubt to the player, I don't want them to be OB, even though we're competing against each other. Although, I am only MA1, so once really money becomes a part of it mentalities might change.

The bunker situation is a bad call for me. Just because the grass is growing in a direction, it doesn´t make the disc in bounds. The disc has to touch the base of the grass at least!

If the bunker line is defined as the edge of grass, then all parts of the grass count as playable area. I think it's a stupid way to define hazard/OB line, but it is what it is. If you were to use the base of the grass as the line, then you'd need to strictly define where it is, i.e. where the root ends and the grassy bit begins. In high-level events, simply use strings, stiks, paint or any other form of more clear way of marking OB/hazard lines. Or follow Lizottes advice and give the benefit to the player if the card cannot conclude if the disc is in or not within reasonable ammount of time.

The way it should be: No debate. No attempts to sway other player's opinions. Each player is responsible for watching and what they saw or see. There is a question? Each player states the call and the vote is tallied. Tie goes to the thrower. Simple as that. Get back to play.

99% of the time I think out of bounds is stupid. It’s golf. Play it where it lies. Don’t replace skill with luck. If the course isn’t challenging enough without OB maybe it just shouldn’t be on the tour.

@@EliteProductions3129 it’s called the two meter rule and it should be brought back. You shouldn’t be able to take the entire hole design out of play and get stuck in the top of a tree right next to the basket and get to play from there with no penalty. And of course water is different but I’ve seen courses with mowed fairways lined with woods. The player misses the fairway, goes into the woods and just gets to play from the fairway with a stroke penalty. That takes skill and course design away and it just becomes a game of throw wherever you want and whoever gets the fewest penalty strokes wins. Their penalty for missing the fairway should be having to play it from where it lies. It’s fair for everyone that way and more exciting for spectators to watch them have to scramble from a bad lie than to just play it from the fairway with a one stroke penalty and a much easier lie. A lot of touring pros agree that’s how the game should be played.

@@EliteProductions3129 with manufactured out of bounds you could have two equally good shots within a foot of each other and both in play (not in water or the top of a tree) and one could be penalized while the other one isn’t. That’s not how golf is played and it’s not how disc golf should be played either. Play it from where it lies and if that’s not challenging enough for the pros then just make the course design more difficult.

I agree I do not understand the new rule that you can be penalized after already making a mando. Once you make a mando you’ve made the mando. End of story. Then, again, you should just play it where it lies.

I don't understand how the hell this sport is paying some players millions of dollars but is still relying on their peers to referee the game in these big tournaments. These guys and girls work with each other week after week and this method breeds resentment between them. Not all the time, but i'm sure it does happen.
