He's been playing for a long time. He played for his choir also in the 90s but he's been playing long before that. I seen in an interview where he said he studied classical piano as a child but he fell in Love with the organ.
One thing that a lot of black churches are guilty of is not keeping their instruments up to part. I belonged to a church and we had a very good organist. He would complain about the organ and asked if the church would fix it or look into a new organ. Since I sang in the choir and I was a trustee we took it to the board meeting those old folks and young ones didn't want to spend the money. They wouldn't even let us have fund raiser to get the money. Eventually the organist left. Now they have no organ player just piano only and they bang.
@@michellefreeman3659 you are right Michelle I'm not the best Hammond Organ player but I do keep it up I just had my keys replace and I believe in other musicians coming to my church and not have to worry about bringing in a keyboard only if they want to but the Hammond Organ that's definitely on point
That’s what most true old school organ players do still run the bass line with a bass player. That’s like the time I played with Mike Ross I had the bass loop running and he still was running the bass line at the same time.
You don't take away the pedal because you have a bass player. Those are two different timbres. Don't take away just because you don't understand. One time I was playing in a service. Somebody walked up to the organ, turned off my foot pedals and said, "We have a bass player, so you don't need the pedals. " I turned it right back on and kept playing. God got the glory that night.
He was probably visiting a church with a choir....and the bass player may not have known the song or may not have been comfortable enough making the changes on the fly. Also, it is hard getting out of using the pedal when you are so use to being your own bass player for years.
@@jaguar1990ful It's self explanatory. If a man is wearing pink socks there's a high probability he's a homosexual. I'm not a fan of homosexuals...I don't care how fashionable they try to make it.
@@Prince-fo6rq “ Not a fan” sounds like you’ve experienced deep trauma of some sort from someone identifying as homosexual so I’ll tread lightly. But please note, pink is not the monopoly of those of the homosexual diaspora, if you please, us heterosexual men wear pink as well.
