Dialogue, puzzle, dialogue, puzzle, dialogue, puzzle, then suddenly ALL the feels!
I honestly can't believe this came out in 2009. It doesn't feel that long ago. My first foray into Professor Layton was The Curious Village. While I enjoyed the puzzled, it was the animation that sold me on the series. While I have the original trilogy, this is the only one of the three that i have beaten.
the puzzles range from stupid easy to ball crushing difficult, with that last dozen or so bonus puzzles being the most ridiculous things man has ever created.
I would have been totally content with just the puzzles and the story, but Level 5 deemed it necessary to add a fat hamster side game that I didn't care for.
The real joy came from the ending. After it became apparent that there was a hallucinogenic gas that was causing people to see the town as it were 50 years ago, events quickly came to head and the true tale of secrets, regrets, and unrequited love was a touching one.
I can put this on the list of games that have made me cry, but unlike Ori and the Blind Forest, these were happy tears. I was glad the old man was able to enjoy time with this grand daughter, even after all those years. He really did love her grandmother, and that made for a great happy ending.
