I don't see Erik as being evil just lost. He suffered at the hands of the Germans during the war and he was alone, so when he met Charles who wanted to help him Erik didn't know how to accept it. He just seems lost and alone even though Charles is right there with him.

when i watched first class with my mother, she even said how cute they are together and my mother has nothing to do with shipping or anything alike that, so yeah even non fans see they are a good ship

The way Erik and Charles’s minds were so easily compatible always reminds me of Scott Summer’s and Jean Grey’s psychic rapport.

The fun thing is that Ian (Erik) and Patrick (Charles) have a real bromance between them, making their interacting much more fun to watch, though I like both the older and younger portrayal of Erik and Charles.

It’s down to the actors. Both Mcavoy and Fassbender and Mckellen and Stewart are really close friends.

I watched Apocalypse a few days ago and - AAAAAAAAARGH!! I was literally sitting in cinema with my best friend shouting at Erik and Charles and EVERYBODY. (There were just 5 other people in the room, luckily) It was a great movie, but for a Cherik shipper - jeez. AAAAAAAAAAAAAALL THE FEELS. And that after I knew this ship for like - 2 weeks? I get attached th ships waaay to easy...

Thank you for talking about the age-bias regarding ships. I do think that in this case, if it weren't for the younger versions of the characters, this ship would not exist.

I remember the old 90s animation of X-men and I think I "shipped" (I was a kid, hence the quotation marks) Xavier & Magneto back then already - one of the "huh" moments was around the 2nd season at the "jungle" part where they responded to a false distress signal, lost their powers temporarily, had to work together, etc I think I also "shipped" Rogue & Gambit a bit? not sure anymore, which just shows they didn't catch my interest much, not even as a kid lol

It's 2019 and I'm still watching this-

I have always shipped this ship in a way. I know that sounds weird, but in my mind they were always in love, and I started reading XMen comics when I was around 10. Like it never occurred to me that they were just friends, the same way I knew barbie and ken were meant to be. As I got older obviously I realized that was probably not intended, but in my heart I felt like they were star-crossed lovers, two people kept apart by their ideals, and given Erik's history we can understand why he believes the things he does. He's already been persecuted once, and there are few better suited than Charles to truly understand him and his turmoil. My attachment to their relationship means I still have around 50 XMen comics in a box. These majillion years later, now that 'shipping' exists, its great for me to be able to share this ship with others. As for other ships, rogue/gambit is strong for me, as well as jean/logan over jean/scott (even though I absolutely do not adore wolverine as most people see him as a badass and to me he's just a grumpy old man, he's crotchety)

I love how they are based on the ideology of Martin Luther King Jr and Malcolm X. Always spoke to me on a deep level.

I love Cherik :-D they are so good for each other. To me one of the best representations of the trust between them is the very end of Apocalypse, where Erik (who has just lost a child as well as found another) allows Charles to teach and protect his son. You'd think that after losing Nina, Erik would be hugely overprotective of Peter, but he trusts Charles enough for Peter to join his team. I love that underlayer of trust they have, when both of them have so many reasons to be distrustful.
