Hope you were smart enough to keep that beauty! Hard to find now. That's a forever quad. Enjoy it for a lifetime . Nice you went w/ new OEM shocks! Love it. #Maxima #TwinAir
That number is pretty accurate! And its still on stock suspension 😬 Keeping up with broken parts and wear and tear is really tough, especially the older a machine gets.
Normally I'd agree with you, but in this case the motor was blown so that got first priority. My original plan going into the build was to focus on a complete suspension overhaul, but there ended up being so many broken/damaged parts that my budget to do so ran out. Throwing shocks and arms at a machine with bad bearings and a host of bent and/or broken parts would have just resulted in an expensive build with poor reliability and issues. That being said, now that everything is restored and mechanically sound, suspension is the next thing on my list for this quad. As I said I'm happy with how the stock setup works, but I know there's plenty of room for improvement there too. I'm not sure when I'll get around to it as I'm taking some time to focus on my new bike instead, but when I do overhaul the suspension there will certainly be a full video covering it!
Very professional video. I also have an 08 LT-R450 that nearly beat the heck out of me in my first race on a quad in 12 years (third time ever on a quad) the course was brutal and consisted of about 60-70% whoops (no exaggeration). How have you set up the suspension and bars/seat to handle the whoops, I was pretty miserable the entire race. I love my Quadracer but...that lack of being able to handle whoops for a long time needs to change. Have you done a video on how you have changed the suspension?
Thank you! As far as making the LT-R450 comfortable, a puck-style stabilizer (CCP or Precision) is a must. This will help dampen steering input and give you more control in whoops and rough terrain. Then I would add either Flexx Bars or a set of Precision Anti-Vibe clamps. Either will help a lot, especially paired with that stabilizer. For the seat, I really enjoy my QuadTech kit. The seat cover is really nice, but more than anything the foam is the difference maker. It's more comfortable and also lower profile. This should improve your overall comfort a lot. Suspension-wise, aftermarket would be the best bet. As you can see, I still have OEM shocks though. The cost of suspension is really high, but if you can afford it, a long travel set-up with Walsh arms and Fox Float, Elka Stage 5, or PEP shocks will make a huge difference. That said, if you're like me and that sort of stuff is beyond the budget, here's the settings I use for my stock shocks for best results. You can also get the stock shocks rebuilt by a company like RaceTech or Derisi and that will at least improve them if you can't set them to your satisfaction. Front Shocks Two turns in on compression, rebound backed out all of the way (go one click back in, never have an adjuster all of the way turned in or out!) Preload nearly backed all of the way off. Rear Shock Two turns out on compression, rebound one and a half turns out, preload set to zero (adjust sag accordingly from there.) Also, a simple thing would be to make sure the tire pressure is all good. I usually stick between 10-12 in the front and 8-10 in the rear depending on conditions.
Did you have to get a extended clutch cable? I have a +2 alba stem and my cable is giving me issues. What oil and coolant do you run? Also did the slide and guide kit come with the rear guide mount or does it use oem?
I never had trouble with the OEM cable, but only used a +1 stem. In this quad I used standard Yamalube 10w-40 (oil changes every 2 hours or after a race weekend) and Engine Ice coolant. In my current quad I'm using Maxima Pro Plus 10w-40 and still using the factory coolant. The Slide n Guide kit provides everything you need.
About an hour south of Seattle originally, but I've moved around a bit since this was shot. Everything in this video was done on Whidbey Island and outside of Bend.
Hey whats going on man just have a question i have a 06 ltr im just wondering how where you able to get away with only a cherry bomb with hotrodz crank and high compression piston? I cherry bomb, pipe, filter with lid off and hot cams do you think id be able to add a hc piston without any issues or needing a different type of fuel tuner
@@toddtilch230 I purchased mine directly through QuadTech... www.quadtech-atv.com/products#!/LTR-450-Low-Hump-Seat-Doug-Gust-edition/p/59932269/category=12173428
I believe it's a Yoshimura start button, but I don't think that Yoshimura currently makes one anymore. That being said, I believe you can use a standard kill button from a dirt bike and wire it up to work the same way, as that's essentially all this button is. Thanks for the compliments, it definitely took lots of hard work to get it there, but I'm happy with the outcome!
These graphics came from a company called Chaos MX Graphics. The company was recently sold and is under a new owner, but they plan to continue making custom graphics.
I was thinking the same thing as I read your quote I just bought a 08 limited edition rode it for the first time today first thing on my list is the suspension
