I just rebuilt my 2007 Chevrolet 4L60E following Jimmy's tutorials and it works again! Fantastic video series and presentation. Never thought I'd attempt this procedure but he made it easy as well as ordering the parts I needed. Highly recommended, thanks Jimmy!
I am going on 2 hours and still no luck getting the darn snap ring on the low/reverse spring cage out. I am literally on the edge of tears and/or madness. LOL
@@kbail152Mine wad jammed in case, it was unusable, I had to buy a new case, New Used case. Never could get snap ring off. Half way was it. Couldn't compress spring cage due to jamming to side. I had some bad metal chips in transmission due to failing Pinion Gear, causing many other failures. Hope u had a good outcome!
Great Videos!!! Helped me a lot for my first build!!! At first i was scared of the inside of a transmission, i am now putting it back together thanks to you and your teaching Video. Thanks Awesome job!!!!
thanks so much for these awesome videos! I have been trying to decide on paying alot on a rebuild unit or having mine repaired at a shop. watched your videos and decided I will fix it myself, I ordered the master kit and a few other bits this morning, look forward to piecing trans back together and going for a drive, thanks again.
First one I rebuilt that checkball had blown out of the case didn't know it ended up having to rebuild it four times finally figured it out worked great the 4th Time
I recently bought my son a 2002 Chevrolet S 10 V6 and the transmission shifts good one and two but three or four he hast to let off the gas in order to make it switch so I’m going to order the rebuild kit from you guys and follow the videos and rebuild it to a better transmission thanks for all your hard work with the videos. And if any other one would like to chime in and if there’s any upgrades or anything we can do better to make the transmission better please let me know will be starting the project in about two weeks
A NOTE: People needing to replace Capsule, I had to Tap my old one. Couldn't get the 3/8 bolt to THREAD into it. It took me awhile to figure what problem was, i didn't want to damage wall for Capsule, so I was very cautious. I did get it out with much Effort! Good luck on your 4L60E rebuild!
I just bought your 4L60E and 4L80E videos. The speakers on my 10 plus year old laptop are gone, so I need to buy another one, so I can watch them. I have an older VIZIO TV, and I might see if I can watch them on it, something I guess I could try, using my current laptop, hooked up TO it! lol
So I commented before on one of these videos about my 4th gear causing a shuddering if I give it too much gas and slipping. Update: 3rd gear has turned into neutral now.
You'll need a hammer slightly smaller than a Ford hammer! Then when you're really frustrated doing it a big sledgehammer just to smash it and go buy a new one just kidding I have rebuilt about four of these and still learning new things like the accumulator Pistons wearing out different causes of failure!
Why would we not what to replace all the thrust bearing's? Are they not a wearable item? I understand they are smooth now but how much life would be left in them. Great Video series!
The bottom of your case inside looks smooth. Mine (k1500- 1995) seems to have many casting lines(hopefully not cracks!) on the non-machined surfaces . No leakage, are these normal?
Excellent videos nevertheless. After watching these I wound up calling the telephone number on their website and placed an order for their deluxe super kit. I'm planning to make my own tools like they did in the video for some of the simple things like spring compressor, but I did also buy the reamer for the valve body upgrade from them. They just added 4L80e rebuild kit to their site so I am really hoping they do a video for that transmission too!
Rebuilding these doesn't look that difficult at all not sure why so many people act like its super complicated. If you have the time, patience and a garage to work in then any person with general mechanical experience should be able to do this.
I am curious about the case bushing; is there a lip like on the pump? I put mine in with the notches in the wrong position, so I drove it right out through the back, even the tool went through! I repositioned it and drove it back in with the notches around 8 or 9 o'clock and 1 o'clock, but played around to get it nearly centered, annd by the time I finished, you could see the bushing's seam, shaped like an "S". Should I remove it and use Loctite and reinstall it? ALSO, is there any reason I couldn't install the rear aluminum Low-Reverse piston now and order another bushing and install it later, after the piston's in? Thanks.
Out of curiosity, with regards to the clutch pack, the wavy seal has no fibre friction plate between it and the first steel seal that is installed. Is there any reason for this? And is there any reason why there is no fibre friction plate behind the wavy seal?
Hello Mr. William , my question is are 2002 and 2005 transmission case the same or compatible ? I have a good 2002 case , and I want to know if I can use it to replace a damaged 2005 4l60E case ?
2004 & up has a front pump that no longer uses an o-ring around the entire pump body; it has a hard seal that goes between the case and bellhousing. The cases & pumps are different.
my ring gear does not spin freely. it does spin. it has new needle bearings lubed with trans fluid, and new bushing installed per the instructions on this video with the finest attention to detail. it does not bind, just does not spin free
I disassembled my 1994 4L60E the inside of the sunshell and the input drum are both chewed up from contact looks just like brake pads when they are down to the metal... What would cause that problem??
@@rickjeffjeff Watch a bunch of the "Precision Transmission" videos. Richard shows a lot of the damage done by switching DR while the vehicle is moving. The Transmission Bench videos are simply outstanding treasures on how to overhaul these transmissions. You won't find better!
