+Ken Duong I have no idea what to name this style... Electro Jazz...? I don't know. Regardless, the backing track is a bit odd... But it can grow on you :)

Everyone knows that the more notes you play, the better musician you are. These guys are playing all the notes, all at once. How musical. My ears are thanking me. Either that or else the blood pouring from them is a sign of abuse, I'm not sure. Kudos to all the jazz bassists who sound like all the other jazz bassists. We're all so impressed. I can't remember or hum a single melody, but I'm really just so impressed. Moved in my soul by the number of notes that you filled the air with. Kudos to jazz bassist #179,843,666.

+mindbodylightsound10 Perhaps it isn't music to your ears. Besides, what do you define as music. It seems that people come out and critique something as not being 'music', when what they really mean is: What they have been exposed to the most musically from mainstream western music perhaps :)
@mindbodylightsound10
@mindbodylightsound10 8 лет назад
1BassJohn don't delude yourself. i never said it wasn't music. it is some part music but predominantly instrumental masturbation posted under the guise of "music".

If 90% for the song is going to be played that high on the neck , just give those guys guitars instead. It'll sound much better that way.
@G33K01345
@G33K01345 8 лет назад
***** I just expressed just the opposite. If you think playing bass should be limited to the high end, you don't know bass. What I was saying is the song shouldn't be only high end. There should be variety.

I give them credit for being different. I admire all of their knowledge and chops, but I would have liked a stronger groove foundation to anchor all of the soloing.

guess it's because there is no format. it's not really structured like a song. it's just back and forth soloing. there's no particular melody that is being repeated.

@HProsiaXH
@HProsiaXH 8 лет назад
It seems to me that, they're better bass players than musicians :/ Don't get me wrong, I've got a lot of respect for them, but that video is mostly about playing as fast and as many notes as it's possible. In my opinion, it could be cool if all those solos would live as separate videos without that annoying background. Cheers from Poland ;) EDIT: From about 3:37 they started to sound like a band.
@BubbyLewis
@BubbyLewis 8 лет назад
The point of the song is about the solos.. Everybody actually isn't obligated to groove all the time.. Lol think about that..
@HProsiaXH
@HProsiaXH 8 лет назад
+Robert Bubby Lewis I thought. You know, you can create a great song with a bass solo, but 1) For me (as I see in comments, not only for me) background track is annoying and spoiling whole thing. 2) I do wish I could have skills like you and others in that video, but have you ever seen "Got bass chops?" video? It's a bit similar: random solos played by different bass players. 1+2= 3) That background and fortuitousness(?) of solos makes the whole song sound... IMHO not good... And please, don't get me wrong, I appreciate your work and your skills, Im just saying what I think about that song.
@BubbyLewis
@BubbyLewis 8 лет назад
+HProsiaXH Rhys fine but this is the most obvious thing.. Everyone may not like what you like or I like... I don't eat mayo.. I Hayes it actually lol.. So I simply don't order it.. what I'm saying is being a professional musician you learn that their isn't benefit is spreading negativity.. You don't gain anything.. Lol now back to the mayo.. If I don't eat it I just don't get it on my food.. And I can't hate or he mad at the people that do like it.. For everyone that doesn't like this track or whatever it will be someone that does lol.. Now me being a musician I also learn to appreciate every type of music.. But then again if I don't prefer it then I leave it alone.. Simple as that.. It's almost 8 Billion people in the world so some people will be different.. But you can always tell the folks that do this for a living versus the ones that have only explored few genres.. It's s big world out there.. You ain't obligated to like it.. But you don't have to discredit either 😉

To be honest it kind of baffles me that people find this "unlistenable". I find it saddening even though I can't say that it really surprises me. To me the content of this piece is on the contrary highly innovative. The piece revolves around providing the concept of a very modern out-of-the-box backing track that embraces numerous fundamental "sonic and rhythmic elements'"of a very vast music genre that could be described as electronic music in order to provide a new playground, or a flow perhaps, on which to improvise with bass. This is precisely the kind of content that I want to see, because this contributes to break bass playing as an art free of the age old mold that is strangling inspiration in today's music. Thank you for this video and for this nice piece of art. I find that this kind of content brings new hope to today's music.

Technically all pretty good, but it's boring as can be... There's no composition to this, just pointless noodling.
