Glad it's useful, I'll have to look up what brand that one was, it came from vwspares.ie and seems to be electro plated which is a bit wierd, all the other ones I've got were either black or silver coated but not zinc coated. I think it might be hard to buy a specific brand as they probably just get batches of them from wherever, don't hold me to that though.
Totally agree really enjoying the video's Welding the van slowly over the last year or so and your videos kick me in the ass to keep going. All the same spots are rusted so anything you do even if you think its mondane is a great help. Would love to see more of the tailgate I still have to attack that. Do you typically weld on the front and back or do you get enough penetrative on one side?
Well your tipping away through it, it's all going the right direction. I just weld the one side but at a reasonably high heat. I get away with about 1 second blasts before it would blow a hole through and generally jump 3 or 4 inches between spots, on the big panels I might do two passes like that before moving away from it and letting it cool completely, seems to work OK. The inner repair on the tailgate actually ends up just being a strip about 40mm wide, I'll show it in the next one.
