It's ironic that Rahdo's prototype minis are, at this stage, looking better than the final product. Richard, hang onto those minis for dear life!

Judging by the comments on the KS page, your runs on this game were instrumental in convincing many backers. Some have even commented that the Radhox's first action should be performed while saying "Heeey everybody" :)

I want this enough to risk my wife killing me over buying too many games.

Yeah, this looked pretty amazing. The design is very clever in creating something fast and exciting, but still strategic enough that you need to think. I might have to pick this one up.

Looks very exciting, though I am surprised that Jen did enjoy this so much. When I saw that it includes "real guns" I thought, she wouldn't like it. Great that she did, and very cool to see you two play together in a runthrough (although you screamed at her ;) )

We played now the KS version of this game. Beside the minis I have to thank you for this video. Project Elite is my favourite real time game now. Love it. With the Interstellar soundtrack on board this game blows me away. Great design. :)

I'm on the fence with this. It looks cool and the break in between timed rounds helps, but I am concerned about the mistakes during dice rolls. But maybe being 100% commited and not filming at the same time would help reducing these. My other problem it seems was there was never enough opportunity to do any searching, or for jen to even use her weapon attachment.
@rahdo
@rahdo 9 лет назад
David Miller well, jen put herself in a bad situation... when she searched early, she should have gotten a new gun, because her only weapon kept half her dice locked up all the time. most weapons don't do that. the doom gun is really best suited for quickly finishing off a big bad guy, so you keep it as a backup. that being her only weapon really meant she was functioning at far less than 100% efficiency :)

In terms of real-time co-ops, I believe Space Alert predates Wok Star, plus it seems like the sort of thing Vlaada Chvatil would pioneer. I love Space Alert, but I don't know how it would play with 2, so I am not sure I should suggest it to you. It is also a bit complicated for a real-time game, but it has been my favorite co-op since I learned how to play it.

This game looks like it needs a dice rolling app to lock the dice easier and force you to resolve the aliens. You could even implement the timer into the app. The chaotic nature seems fun, but the way dice are used looks fiddly. The loss of life affecting the number of dice seems like it could be an easily forgotten rule since there's nothing tracking how many times you've been hit. It seems like there should be a place for the dice to lock (with the X) on the player cards. And, maybe have larger card sizes to handle this. Use something like the square Djinn cards in Five Tribes, where the square size would allow for the left or right side to lock dice.

Are you going to review the new CMON edition and its expansions? I'm really interested in knowing what you think about those (specially the expansions) 😣.

i've been hoping that the publisher would send out review copies of the expansions, but so far no luck :(

I was going to back this because of the large number of fantastic miniatures, but I am not keen at all with real time dice rolling. Totally bummed. :(

How does one get a copy of this game?
@boardgamefangirl
@boardgamefangirl 7 лет назад
You can't. It's near impossible. No retail distribution. However, on one of his videos, Tom V. of the Dice Tower said he will try and get it reprinted somehow as it was his #1 game of 2016. Hopefully that will happen! Or check ebay.

Don't know if you know but CMON is doing a kickstarter right now for a new version of this game. You probably know but saw this and wanted to help.

While interesting, the messiness and fiddlyness of this game is not easy to ignore. To simply shoot you have to roll dice then place them in a space then roll other dice then remove dice from space? Repeat? Not seeing any simplicity. I think the mistakes you made are actually a good example of the innate faults. I noticed multiple times you didn't "move" the alien when you should have or just ignored rules. There is also too many possibilities for players to mess up each other's strategy and ways to fudge the rules in your favor as again you showed multiple times. Seems like the line of "cheating" (intentional or not) becomes incredibly blurred with so many things going on at once and so many ways to make a "mistake".

8elias8 actually, it's very important that this sort of rigid structure is in place, to help ensure players dont make simple mistakes during the realtime play. by being required to place their dice on the slots, you can't "forget" to put the extra die on your gun, for instance, or "forget" that your die is locked because used it for the special power of a med pack or whatever. when jen and i first started playing, she wasn't doing the step of placing the dice on the cards, because it seemed like a needless extra step, but when the high pressure starts popping up, it's easy to get confused about hwat you have and haven't done. so the rules are in place to ensure maximum streamlined gameplay actually, and they are really brilliantly conceived, IMO. the fact that players can mess each other up is a core component of the gameplay. strong communication in tight time frames is essential to survive at the higher difficulty levels. it's where players develop skills to become better. it's what makes the game fun, and not a solo exercise :) as for the mistakes i made while filming, bera in mind, i make mistakes in ALL of the games i film, even super simple ones, even games i've played many times and am very familiar with. it's a function not of the games, but of the act of filming, where i'm trying to make decisions to best demonstrate the gameplay while also trying to verbalize my thought process in an entertaining upbeat way while also trying to film it all one handed. rest assured, gameplay is not so error prone when one's brain is 100% devoted to the task at hand, rather than 30% devoted, as was the case in the video :)
