That wonderful feeling when you have spent four hours doing something to end up at the point you started.

On the bench that all was should only have taken an hour no more lol, and in my heyday I could have done it with cab and body on in five hours, by hand and no lifting gear. Ask me how I know lol

When I was still at infants school, we had a tire fitting bay about 2 doors away from our house... So whenever you get that air-spanner out the sound of it fills me with joy as I'm transported back to my innocent youth. This whole episode seems to be a strange 1970s nostalgia trip for me, 'cus, I mean, just look at the graphic design on that Corteco oil-seal box "it's cosmic man".

It's really coming together. I couldn't help but notice you've reroofed your house with solar panels. One of your first videos I watched was a tour of your homestead, it's come along way since then. Great to see the progress over the years and would be interested in seeing a updated tour of your place and the much improved power system. As someone that lives off grid with solar and battery bank primary system and generator backup I seem to never have enough power without running the generator more than I'd like.

Excellent work, Max. Take a tip from me from my experience with Hot Rods. If pushing anything with open wheels, always push on the top of the tyre. You get a 2:1 advantage compared to pushing on the frame. I'm enjoying this build, Kermit really will be a minter after all this work. All the best, Mart in Solihull.

Adding extra precautions to a land rover is 'multiple points of failure'. Made me chuckle. A while ago I was helping a guy at work change his alternator in the carpark. He was struggling, lying under the car in a puddle, holding a maglite in his teeth. As I had to do once upon a time. I came home and got on with servicing the bike, in a warm and lit workshop. With a cuppa and radio4 playing. I realised how lucky I was.

Something you might want to consider whilst it's all accessible Max. Many years ago, I replaced the drum handbrake on my defender with an X-Brake cable operated disc. It's not cheap, around 250 quid, but it's one of the best mods I ever did. The drum inevitable fails and just isn't very good. The disc is a rock solid piece of kit that has never even needed adjusting and I swear it would hold the beast on the side of a cliff. Lovely to see your progress buddy.

I was tempted but it's a lot more than that now!
@philthorpe4549
@philthorpe4549 Год назад
For what it's worth, I'm fairly sure the original used a cable operated front brake from an old JCB. One of those might still be findable and then all you'd need would be a man who can fabricate brackets. Wonder where one of those could be found...🤔 ;)
@MarktheOddJob

@@maximusironthumper I've got one and they're not fantastic to be honest. Maybe worth it if you're constantly off roading and filling the drum with mud but they are far too expensive to buy or even to replace the pads.

When I had my 2.5 n/a diesel rebuilt it practically pi$$ed oil from the crank seal. I couldn't park it in anyone's driveway because of the leakage. So, engine back out and new seal put in dry. No leaks, from there at least, since. Your video, and honesty, just saved a bunch of home mechanics a lot of aggravation.

Just remembering back doing an automatic box change in a frankenstein landrover 110, gearbox out, everything done, or so we thought, the guy who was with me didn't scrape the old gasket off completely, everything reassembled, filled with oil and.............. Drip drip drip....... Box back out, disassembled, cleaned, reassembled correctly....... 16 hours of gearbox shenanigans, and still failed. Don't you just love landrover 😂😂

Hey Max, if you haven’t sorted the exhaust already by now then why not just buy a standard 300tdi front pipe, there’s only one 300tdi front pipe, and modify to suit the series chassis. It should be pretty simple that way I think.

A workshop is an essential for work like this, a polytunnel is also good because you get really good light when working on such things as putting a Landrover together. This is, and all the other video's too, are all really good content. Also it is good to learn something new every day, even if it is just a crankshaft seal. Thanks for another great video. I wonder will you move the Landrover to the polytunnel for the finishing off of the body once it is on the chassis? Then you will still have the workshop free.
