How refreshing to see a Disco 1 getting sorted rather than being chopped up for another Defender. How about air suspension, I’ve been dreaming about it on mine for a while but wouldn’t be able to afford it even if it could be done, but if anyone can do it you can.
I was just about to comment this too…I always thought the facelifted front end was much smoother and suited the car better. Agree with other comments though, lovely to see a Disco 1 getting some appreciation :)
Absolutely, not a green turd 😂 what you have is a rare find 3 door Disco with no sunroof, looking forward to the series. I will forward a link to the channel, to The Project Jay Preservation Group.
Fortune favours the bold! Love the way you acted on instinct, taking chances with whether it would all marry up. Great to see the donor of my engine getting a ground-breaking project to itself - all power to you, Juice!❤
Really interested in this. Had a 5 door 300tdi as my first landy. Not a fan of the early disco headlights. It was a common thing to put early Td5 headlights on a late 300tdi. The back of the unit is darker and just looks smarter than the factory 300tdi headlights
I have a 200tdi discovery, I would love to know what options there are for the head lights. I like to look but would like a modern brighter option. Thanks.
How about making it to last 10 years...No rot..Clean MOT...Clean inside with a new roof lining. BUT....Do it on a strict budget...How much did it cost---plus--the cost of all the parts = The price on the for sale sign and no labour costs...IE...What we would love to do at home but have got the botox to do it....Budget ..Respray....DIY.
Been waiting for this to reappear 😊 be interested in info or a video detailing the parts and costs involved in this iv always wanted a td5 in my 300 since buying a td5 aswell.. Think this should stay factory colour and nice wheels in sandstone.. Like bowler alloys or banded wolf or mach 5. 👌🏼
Would the BMW engine conversion fit? Keep the original colour (you said it was one of the things you liked about it). Whatever you do, I'm glad your giving a Disco 1 some care & attention.
It absolutely fits but I wanted a more OEM approach for this one, the TD5 is a very capable engine, nowhere near the BMW but I had one in the shop and enjoying its simplicity ❤
I love the fact youve saved this vehicle from the scrap heap and have decided to put a Td5 in it i was initially expecting somthin like a perkins diesel engine conversion, keep up the good work look forward to seeing this build finished👍
Interesting project 👍🏻, really keen to see how this turns out. I’ve got a soft dash RRC shell with galvanised chassis & TD5 mounts & a rotten TD5 disco with good engine waiting to be put together … inspiration, thanks 😎
I had a 1998 Discovery 300tdi XS ..Had it for 14 years. Best motor I've ever had , great memories camping when the kids were small. Sadly had to let it go when I moved to Ireland..Road tax on these is 1100 euros a year 😮😮😮😮
Hey juice this will be a cool build, personally I like the TD5, I have a D2 auto with one, also spent 4 years building a series 3 109, now 200tdi conversion, Ran great for months but now threw a main bearing somehow :( so engine out soon and apart to see what happened and rebuild. I would like to pick your brain on my td5, Got an issue and I know you guys know alot about these, So drives fine good power and such no over pressure on cooling, BUT 4th gear autobox, when locked tc in 4th, and it needs power it kind bogs and then starts to overheat according to the d2 temp gauge nanocom better temps, But if I drive in 3rd it can drive all day, a bit annoying problem. I replaced before this the thermostat and water pump. doesnt seem to be air any ideas would be much appreciated
I thought at the time that the face lifted Dis1 looked much better than the original, still do. The Camel Trophy vehicles often ran standard LR (Defender) rims and tyres, that would be my choice however I am probably dated. Other matter: in the shed is a reversible plough, is it a Lemkin or a Ransomes? Does it still get used?
I got a disco 1 200 tdi from 1990. I importet it from spain so its in incredible good nick. Its got the original 90s style patches from the first launch. It also got the Alu wheels to it. But i think the Defender steel wheels in WHite with at tyres like on yours looks quite good. So I gone change that I recon Cool project keep up the good work. Disco ones are so much more interesting and niche than boring defenders or overpriced rrcs
I far prefer the look of the original 2 door Discovery , I;ve had both 2 and 4 door classics in the past , my 1972 2 door was my favourite , unfortunately the chassis fell apart or I;d still have it
Broke my heart when I scrapped my 300tdi ES, the chassis was gone when I bought it, but I kept it going for over five years. I didn't have a garage or a drive to a body off restoration was never going to happen.
Can’t call it the Green turd 4wd UK has already got a Green turd they’ll have you for copyright lol Looking forward to binge watching the rest of this build this afternoon
This makes me really miss my old disco probably one of the rarest versions 2l mpi 3door in Epsom green, I’d love to have another early disco but finding one now that hasn’t been molested by the green laning mob, beaten to death by a farmer or totally rotted out is near impossible
never let your dog play with a plastic bag / plastic packaging- extremely dangerous and not a good habit; that's one of the few things you really need to keep away from dogs always
Ok not what I expected from you guys but I can’t wait for this build! Intresting to see where this build goes and I do agree these poor discoveries are under appreciated
Had a 3 door V8 D1 with 36" Simex tyres and Nissan GQ CVs and custom axles, diff locks etc. It was a beast off road, embarrassing Toyota's and Nissans. I really miss that car...very underrated and sadly mocked here in Aus...as all LRs are.
I’ve owned 3 D1s, both 200 and 300tdi, and they are the most useful Land Rover you can own. All mine worked as the school bus, family vehicle, works van, shopping car, holiday expedition vehicle. Sainsburys today, the Serengeti tomorrow!
Great job and project, is inspiring to see you guys get in to it. I'm a daily user of a disco 1 and this video bring me some ideas. Greetings from Colombia.
This project looks especially good as it looks so 'factory'. I have had a vague idea about doing a Disco 1 restoration after my current (Mini) project is done for some time and now I am convinced. However I don't need convincing about the Discovery 1 as a car. I was lucky enough to be able to buy a new Disco pre '94 facelift in that very green and had the (then) optional handling package which gave bigger wheels, thicker roll bars and other extras. Always dealer serviced (excellent outfit in Wotton Bassett) and I ran that for about a year, put a LOT of miles on it and it never let me down. The Dealer suggested a change due to mileage and gave me a sweet deal on a post '94 facelift version. They came standard with all the options I had fitted in the first one. Same colour and again I put a LOT of miles on it. The only failure was an overheated radio changed under warranty at the second service. Totally underrated and brilliant cars.
Great series on the Disco 1 engine conversion. The Td5 is my favourite LR motor and also their last one. My last Defender was a 2008 Puma TDi but the Td5 sounds better and is torquier? I live in NZ, age 69 and have owned most variants since '83. I had a V8 Disco 1 which I liked alot but a bit thirsty. I would love to know what you think of the non LR Grenadier by Eneos which I think is the vehicle that all Defender enthusiasts wanted to see as the successor to the last Defender.
Brilliant build! Disco 1’s are very underrated For colour how about a later Land Rover green like Tonga green or Galway green?? For wheels definitely go steel… I’d go wolf rims and 255/85x16 BFG I think they are the perfect size and no need to fit silly extended plastic arches
Brilliant new build series! I had a blue 200TDi disco 1 (1991 i think) and then a red 300Tdi 3 door commercial on a P plate which sadly and regrettably now I let go as wasn't getting used anymore.....even found some old pics of it the other week and wished I'd kept it! I then had a 110 which again was a great wagon but I did miss the comfort of the discos. So this will be great to see hiw it pans out. Interestingly I think the disco 2 is underrated as well and they do a lot of rebuilds/upgrades of those especially in the US so ot might be nice to see you do one of those as well one day!
I've a std 3 door S reg that I'm rebuilding , will be good to get it back on the road sometime. Mine is a rotbox. You could have just drilled out the spotwelds on the slampanel and just bolted it back in like classic Rangey . That lets you put in the whole power pack from the front.
Cant wait to see the finished article . For a colour tune into Harry’s Garage and see the colour of his v12 Jaguar Coupe , beautiful olive green colour ( I think it was an Aston Martin colour) . Is that cap glued to your head ?😂
I had a 1996 Discovery 300 that was in Rioja Red which is a beautiful deep metallic colour and they look really nice in that colour. To put the car back to that original condition would be super regardless of whatever colour you choose. I think keep the front end as it is, or it may look a bit Frankenstein and the headlights and front wings would also need to be changed.
Would like to see you or/and team show the dos and don'ts in buying a discovery 1 or 2 etc when we decide to look in buying a potential vehicle (where to look on the vehicle for what and tear, rust, damaged signs etc)
SOLD!!! looking forward to see results from this project, always liked disco 1 and glad to see pne that isnt chopped up even though its solid. Very rare and good upgrade 👌
Amazing boys. Different and professional with high standards as the norm in the process. What a wonderful use of a D1 and keeping it alive being such a good donor. Brilliant and excited wondering how this turns out. Keep up the great work boys.
@@juicemotors Yeah, I guess. Sorry. I've been a fan of Land Rovers since I could speak. Had a series 3 family car and then a D1 family car. Loved both of them. Even had an old Series2/3 ex Military farm vehicle. My biggest peeve is obviously people putting the TD5 in their LR's. They're just not a good motor IMO and I hate seeing it. There are so many better options, such as the 200 or 300tdi, even the V8 is better than a TD5
Father in law has a white 3 door Tdi which has done about quarter of a million miles - and it’s still going. Might be a bit rough around the edges but that just adds character.
Doesn't matter what colour, but stick with the defender vibe and go for a defender colour, keep the steel wheels in ivory and colour code the roof to ivory as well.
