Project L is a gorgeous engine building polyomino game from Boardcubator, it teaches in 5 minutes, and is fun within 2 minutes of playing. This isn't your typical polyomino game, it's an engine builder that rewards thinking ahead, what your plans are and will be, and what's the most efficient way to complete your tiles faster than your opponents.

Love how you mentioned you're not sure if there is a single player mode. The biggest problem I have with most poly games is that they're all essentially single player. Project L seems to make the only interaction between players (hate drafting) even less prevalent by making it very obscure to identify what other players need. I like the engine building for sure and is very original. I'd play this and enjoy it, but can't think of a reason to ask someone to play this with me.

Love the game, it's a super solid light game :)

Totally agree that it feels too short with the set number of black tiles. We get the same reaction from everybody each time. Great review!

Thanks :-) And yeah we just started adding tiles... We have fun with it.

To improve that aspect of the game "feeling the same" the designer can come up with an expansion that adds Final goals tiles; end of round goals; or things like that as you mentioned. I feel like I will like to get this game. Cheers

It's a solid game, but yes, would love more.

That is exactly what they did in their current KS though, right? :-)

Hey, I just saw this review up on the KS page! I was very excited to see your video there among the likes of Dice Tower and such.

Yep :) I pushed off doing too many reviews for a while but now started adding them to my repertoire.

Another excellent review! I'm planning on pledging for the game on Monday. Alex, do you plan on reviewing the new expansion when it is launched on Monday?
@BoardGameCo

Likely not, if I get it down the road I'll cover it :)

Hey would you do a new review of this game, telling if you got fed up of this game? :)

What would you rate this now if you had your rating system back then?

The 2 expansions that came up with the game, which you can see on the player boards, add some depth to it, without making the game more complex. You should try them if you can get your hands on them.

Are you on a high work ethos? 4-5 uploads in one hour? Wow! I do like the finesse design of this game...

This looks really tempting but I do worry about longevity as well but the price point isn't too steep so it isn't a game I necessarily need to get 20+ playthroughs for it to be value for money.
@BoardGameCo
@BoardGameCo 3 года назад
Yep, and it's accessible. We've played it 10+ times already in the few weeks since we got it.

I think the price is quite high for what it is. For the same price including shipping i can get games like Death may Die or the Arena the contest base game.

Abstracts are often pretty samey ;-) Samey is not the problem. Lack of depth is.
@BoardGameCo
@BoardGameCo 3 года назад
Fair...but samey to me means the game needs to be that much better to keep it around.

This looks like it would hold my interest if the basic mechanics and tactical decisions are interesting. But then I'm still playing Ogre on the base map after more than thirty years.

The decisions are fun. It's a light game but one I enjoy pulling out.
