Ford M Garage Miata is NEVER turbo ready without a lot of prep. Turbo a stock Miata and it will blow the engine and tranny. Terrible idea. And either way, I'd rather supercharge it

This series is so awesome. I just recently purchased a 95 Miata as my first car about three weeks ago and can't wait until I'm not broke again to be able to put in mods like these! Lol. I love this little car! And it's so great to have such a big AND helpful community that can help you with just about anything dealing with the MX-5. I am eager to learn and thanks to channels like CT I can do just that :)

Nooo you spend loads of money on a new exhaust system and then you use the old restrictive catalytic converter! Massive failz on that one m8! =) But will make me feel awesome on friday when i bold on my new 3-inch stainless steel downpipe with a 100-cell race-spec catalytic converter. I am thinking about heatwrapping it since it looked really awesome in your vid but I've heard that it is a potential firehazard if you get oil and grease on the wrapping. What do you think? Cheers! =)

A 1995/6 vehicle does not need a catalytic converter to pass UK emissions. You could've just bought a decat pipe and sold the cat for £80.

After watching all these vids, I can say that the '95 MX-5 is a lot different than my '93. Might just be the fact that I'm in the US, but the seats and steering wheel are different, and mine doesn't have a heat shield over the manifold. Also, mine only has a 1.6 litre instead of a 1.8.

Yeah, Mazda made the switch from a 1.6 to a 1.8 liter engine in 1994. I'm sure that came with some interior design modification as well.

Car Throttle I recently bought an mx 5 1997 myself and now i was wondering, if i just change the current exhaust with this one (cobalt exhaust system from the video) and i didn't change the manifold would it still sound "good" /perform better ?

You need to read up on exhaust tuning principals. A 4-1 will flow better at high revs, 4-2-1 gives better torque low down. You need to choose your system depending upon the application. I would keep the stock manifold for when your shiny one cracks due to heat cycling.

The factory manifold is not really all that bad. For what you paid for the new one you gained next to nothing. The 4-1 design is actually better for high rpm and the 4-2-1 is better for low to mid range. Since nothing was done to the intake there is really no point in doing anything to the exhaust. On my NB MX-5 I have modified the stock air box and installed a high flow air filter, the rest is stock. Since I am thinking about turbocharging this car there is no point in getting an exhaust designed for a naturally aspirated engine or spending money on a intake that you will throw away in a year or so. If you do not plan on running forced induction then your first mod should be a decent intake, THEN the exhaust. On a side note you can gain a LOT of power by porting the cylinder head and running different cams.

Should have put the O2 sensor onto the manifold before putting the manifold into the car. That way you can just plug in the clip haha. Future reference :) Good job on the wrap!

last time i bought a cat the replacement was about 500$ if i used the one the book calls for , but i installed a high flow universal cat made by magnaflow for 165$ ,welded it in and forgot about it .

once it took me about 5 hrs to get of the stock exhaust/headers on a volkswagen t1 aircooled motor..... The bolts had 50 years of rust :( . Even with goggles on I got so much rust in my eyes..

Sounds great, I have a 96 and I have, headers, mufflers delete, and I'm gonna probably get a cat delete and go with a borla muffler. Because I want to get rid of the cat, but with a muffler delete it will sound to raspy, even though it does sound great right now.

I’m not happy about that you didn’t swap out the old catalyst. It’s damaged and old. Swapping it out with a brand new one would have given you an extra pair of hp, and the world climate would be happier.

mx5 drivers are the best , i went to a cars and coffee in the netherlands and a mx5 drove towards us , tuned to around 400-500 it sounded like , then he just made a burnout and went away , didnt even look at the bugatti's and stuff :P the best
